@0xSword - Governance Steward Nomination 7/2023

Hi Sword! Cool to see your thought process. I think I’m misunderstanding several things here, though, and so I have a few questions, if I may.

1-
“A crucial part of my proposal is to collaborate with fellow Stewards in gathering information necessary to create a comprehensive DAO handbook”

The confusing part is the use of my in “my proposal”. The requirement for stewards to deliver a DAO handbook has been a part of Governance Working Group charter for months:

“Publish and maintain a DAO handbook which explains in detail how the DAO is currently structured.”

Would you mind clarifying how you mean it when you say “your proposal”? Apologies if I’m just misreading or missing something obvious.

2-
Other parts of WG charter seem to be copy-pasted and referred to as “your proposed plans”. For example, the entire “Deliverables” section, items from which have been defined in the same way in AIP-239.

Another instance: “Upon being elected, I propose that the winning stewards should convene immediately to establish a framework for electing the metaverse working group” - isn’t that defined as part of Governance Stewards mandate in AIP-239? Just hoping to get clarity on what you mean when you say “I propose” when it’s something that AIP-239 actually mandates and is therefore a required duty, not an optional decision. Proposing something would mean it’s an option, not a requirement.

Point #5: you have attended the first Ape Assembly meeting over a week ago where this exact thing was not only discussed, but implemented via #assembly-votes chat by @Amplify in ApeCoin Discord. Some decisions have already been voted on and approved/declined by AA in that chat. So when you say “I propose” in a document that’s published a week after the chat’s creation, would you mind clarifying if you’re suggesting it should be modified, or perhaps a new system devised?

Point 8 “Outreach Campaigns” says the exact same thing as AIP-246 Marketing & Comms WG as far as SM and outreach campaigns. Does your proposal/idea differ perhaps from what that AIP suggests? Also perhaps you could define the term “the marketing forums” used in this sentence:

1-
Under the heading “The key changes I intend to bring are:” you write:

Would you mind elaborating on how Stewards would have the power to “define” the role of the Special Council when this role was already defined by a DAO-wide vote in AIP-1 and would thus require another DAO-wide vote to be changed?

If you meant to say “document” instead of “define,” the process of documenting the current role of SC has already been undertaken by @badteeth in his upcoming AIP “Information Request - Role of Special Council.”. It would be polite to mention/credit him seeing as his efforts preceded this post by 7 days.

2-
You ask to be elected as “Ape Assembly Steward”? Is this a new role? So far, only Governance Stewards role has been approved by the DAO.

3-
Would you mind explaining references to yourself as if you’d have the power to make final decisions? Particular sentences that create some confusion (emphasis added): “It will be my responsibility to set up the sub-dao’s framework…”, " My plan is to reshape the Ape Assembly into a functioning sub-DAO…" and " Over the summer, I aim to redefine the structure…", “The Ape Assembly, under my stewardship, will serve all…”

4-
Below, are you suggesting that the Working Groups or the Ape Assembly the DAO voted to create are not something you support?
“Over the summer, I aim to redefine the structure to properly represent our community and address the valid concerns about brand and hijacking risks associated with the sub-DAO representing itself as Apecoin.”

Apologies again if I’m entirely misunderstanding things. I’ve re-read multiple times and these are the questions I was left with. Thank you for clarifying.

PS: you use the term “sub-DAO” a few times. The term can mean many things to many people. What’s the scope or definition of it in how you’re using it in these documents?

Hi @sasha! Thanks for the questions !

I’ll attempt to clear up some of your initial confusion. For everything else, a quick call is simpler! You can find my calendly linked above. I’ve seen several versions of the Ape Assembly or versions of it since around November in an earliest drafted form.

I’m looking forward to building a simple system for electing WG stewards and writing a handbook that better explains Special Council, The Ape Assembly, etc…! I know how to operationalize WGs and the DAO Handbook is of great importance to fix the messaging around Special Council.

As Steward runner-up in January, I had even Halina and Amps support. I was the one looking at models like ENS and spending many research hours. Attended most of the WG0 stuff and had a good time. Many people worked on early versions through google docs too!

Spring was fun, you came in too! and there was shared camaraderie. That existed but WG failed to manifest over time. Even now it’s become an “in 2024” thing when they talk about working groups. I really like Decentralands Grant Support Squad and it shows great results.

I’d like to setup a simple system to elect metaverse stewards, where each person of the Ape Assembly snapshot votes. No chairmans, titltes, bloating with small grant programs, or any creep that is already occuring quickly. I use the term “i propose” often because its polite.

Having said that, what the DAO missed out out on was me operationalizing the early focus groups. I was the first one in there with a list for both gov & marketing to run a simple POAP contest. Made for anyone who wanted to engage with it! Discord boomed every night!

There’s a lot of history over the last year. I suppose I’m like a loremaster. Others get cred too. Kinda cool really. We need to probably adjust the terms of facilitator too, so that they dont even feel the need to issue disclaimers. All of this needs worked out for the “DAO handbook” right away.

I want to be in the conversations and bring a high level of expertise. A main delivery will be the DAO Handbook as listed in the charter. That will require a short bit of legal and work with Special Council, and accomplishes the goal of developing better messaging surrounding Special Council, AA, etc…! :dizzy:

These are all fascinating topics and ive traveled to conferences to dive more into them. I’m excited for the Ape Assembly but I do want to reevaluate the working group structure. Marketing and Comms is now being said to not be operationalizing until 2024. Small grants program looks to be in ideas already.

I worry about the bloat and some troubles can be seen from a mile-away. A book I’m recommending is the Network State. I’m not the first or second person to share this around :eyes: a free version is easily found. I bring a change in direction from what we’ve been on so far in Q1 & Q2.

I’m likely to clear out some of my old proposals and even clean up my desktop. I’m ready for a fresh start. Sometimes I feel like my mutant looks! Probably natural after a couple of proposals, being the steward runner-up in january, and contributing at the level that I have. My forum stats arent farmed!

Reading and studying and asking questions has gotten me this far. Being friendly and welcoming to people are why many referred folks to me for questions about the DAO. I’ve been a net-positive here, contributing value time and ideas, so it’s great when I get peoples votes of confidence.

Again, glad to help clear up any confusion on where I stand. I think stewards should roll out a voting system for MV, focus on dao handbook, and maybe a few fun votes for Ape Assembly. Summer-time must be fun and we must make this enjoyable for teachers moms and dads too.

Some of the suggestions like 2 wednesdays a month and the availability could make it harder to participate. I think more time and consideration should be put into it what is voted on, as well as early ideas about how to organize the Assembly through chairs and things, as these were not listed in the AIP.

It’ll be really fun to work on this stuff. DAO Handbook will require some legal budget and could include some open meetings for club leaders and gov enthusiasts to attend. I’ve got a different vision for the Ape Assembly but its very within the scope and I have 239 printed.

I can make this right and I know just how do it. My time has fair value and this role is tailor-made for me. I can operationalize a MV WG before it goes upto vote at all, and stewards will deliver on the DAO handbook to clear up special council messaging! In January, the DAO missed out on me.

That’s kinda my thoughts on all this. Again, a quick call is always simpler hahah!

Thank you, Sword.

You posted your vision publicly so I think it’s only fair to answer the questions in public, too. There’s a tremendous emphasis on “I” in your answer. I appreciate your view on your own capabilities, though I did not ask about your expertise or past history as these forum topics aren’t about personal focus. I was more interested in your specific idea statements and clarifications around those.

It’s your thread so you’re welcome to leave them unanswered, of course, that’s completely fair and I won’t press further.

Thanks again for taking the time.

You’re very welcome @Sasha ! Though I must say I haven’t enjoyed our back and forths lately. Actually, you’ve yelled at me and acted pretty immaturely. It really wears on my confidence and bandwidth and ability to explain these things comfortably. Your posts are often aggressive!

If youre looking for additional context on anything I say or do, its easy find. I’ll continue to seek better ways to do it. Many of us talk a big game but very few come prepared. Me, if I see an interest from others in sub-daos, I make informational posts. Very helpful!

Ape Assembly is small compared to Apecoin and it should be separate, not attached or foundation employees Doing Business As. This is my area of expertise and what most interests me here. Young guns and readers alike may not know much abt me, so i post here for all.

It’s not my job to teach you but I’ve shared information always. As far as Steward role I believe most others are unprepared. Q1 & Q2 stewards report $0 spending for legal consult. To me little conversation is dull and i prefer to cut through the noise. Loremaster, thats me.

If you’re interested more in forum ettiquete and ideas surrounding how to better help proposals and to continue the mission here, I’ve created some forum guides overtime, put up out of necessity, as we’ve struggled to even change forum categories or get regular updates.

I’ve gotten enough feedback and knowledge on how to approach most things when it comes to forum experience, and I look to see updates in that area done right away. Happy to also talk about how we can better sync converations in twitter spaces to the forums too!

These are fun topics to me and I’m glad to chat more. I was the steward runner up and the DAO missed out on some vital upgrades and an important core contributor having a hand in setup. Q1 & Q2 has had terrible results. These elections are my chance to have a say.

This is TRULLY upsetting and this is very inappropriate. Looks like councils are not doing nothing about it. No one also knows who they talking about. Obviously they attacking their opponents and that what will take votes away from man, some really digging the hole for them.

This is a Public Forum!))))
You only need to log in with at list 1 Apecoin if you want to fully participate)))
And everyone can go to any link on snapshot or pages in web2 without any tokens at all to read them) this is how internet works))!!!
People can even dig the deleted pages or responses ones in was posted online at the ARCHIVE mode or even DIAL IN mode without having windows or OS operating systems. It’s incredible)

I have to agree with you.
It is very sad that some adult man act like this in 2023. I feel similar way. Imagine calling someone who work for you at some support and they talk to you like this and constantly saying those things?
Steward role is a SUPPORT style role same as Council. So if the person don’t create any environmental opportunity given to align with you - how it would make Apecoin holders feel?

Thank you 0XSward for always creating those opportunities yourself and not waiting for some offerings ever.
This is the kind of folks we want here!

Hey @TheFatherOfAllStorms one of the main tasks of the Governance Stewards is to present a DAO handbook that explains structures like Special Council & AA, how it all works, what they can and cannot do. That kinda stuff is to be written over the summertime.

The “handbook” writing could include working alongside new special council members going in to figure complex things out, which is great! Im confident that itll all get sorted out over the summer time.

Id love to be at the table as they talk about this stuff, and I bring unique insight and experience. Sucked being runner-up in january. I’m here and ask great questions and want to be a Steward.
