IMO / IME the proper way to oversee ethics is to hire lawyers established in that field.

There are issues that are easy targets for regulators that are unnecessary and plainly visible, and while most others are matters of opinion or preference that would be up to debate and for the DAO to decide whether we as a whole care and wish to do anything about it.

Most, if not all, ethical issues are very easy to identify - plenty of smart people here with experience in business, law, etc. - it doesn’t take a highly paid expert, and I don’t think someone arbitrarily appointing people based on prerequisites that are also opinions would truly move anything along.

IF there’s to be a limit on financial exposure any potential ethics overseer may have, it should be zero. Some ethical concerns are only in existence because people voted for them in self interest - because they held or wish to hold ApeCoin or Yuga assets - not out of any true value to the DAO or Mission.

Of course this would be impossible to vet for, so it’s a moot point. I’m just saying that picking a number like 5 Yuga assets does no real good, though it’s well intentioned. It could be 5 BAYC with ultra rare traits = 5 assets, or maybe 10 million ApeCoin = 1 asset.

In most cases it’d be ideal to review any new AIP (and I’d strongly argue past AIPs) through an ethical lens, which I - perhaps many - presumed was already happening. Shouldn’t the existing legal team be doing so? Aren’t they?

Hi ApeCoin DAO Community,

This AIP Idea was tagged as “Needs Administrative Review” and sent to the Special Council. Upon careful review, the proposal has been deemed “Return for Reconstruction”. In doing so the Special Council cited:

Core to the comments are

  • How can we be sure that the ethics manager is accountable and who would they be accountable to?
  • Is there an ethics code or an evaluation framework this ethics manager would be following?
  • How is the ethics manager accountable to the community and how are things made more transparent by having an ethics manager?

We thank the author for their participation and encourage everyone to continue sharing ideas with the ApeCoin DAO Community.

This Topic will be moved to and remain in the Final AIPs: Returned for Reconstruction category. The author may resubmit their proposal if they wish.
