What’s up Profits?? Welcome to the DAO!
imo there are 2 reasons not to support this AIP idea:
- it mostly helps dumping whales like machi. i think BAYC whales should find better ways to support the community instead of looking for more exit liquidity from the DAO!
- and even more importantly: it ties the DAO with YUGA together again, where YUGA looked for a clear separation of the 2 for regulatory reasons.
so please don´t persue it any further! thx.
The primary aim of this discussion section is to encourage participants to propose ideas and ask questions. There is no need to agree or disagree; our decisions are demonstrated solely through votes. The right questions will help to argue the AIP imo.
This feels like a way to give exit liquidity to the holders the “curator” deems worthy. This concept can easily be done in a smaller scale (acquire 10 of each) and then approach museums. If there is lots of interest, it can be trivially scaled up.
The immediate ask to buy 1000s looks to me like a way to exchange APE value to increase the floor price of the NFTs.
@Machibigbrother we need more details.
As a standalone proposal, this brings huge risks & at the moment is open to interpretation.
That proposal would have been good before 14 months ![]()
I think after 14 months of dumping, there shouldnt be a shift to ETH / USDT now…
Investors call that the ‘gambler’s fallacy’
OP, I propose that you re-write this AIP idea to focus on a smaller scale diversification of the DAO treasury into NFT assets with an explicit call out that any use of those NFTs is subject to individual AIPs. If the purchase has any market moving potential it should be carried out gradually (e.g. if we’re buying 10 NFTs, purchase them over 10 weeks).
How does owning 10% of the BAYC and MAYC tokens benefit the DAO? Are there even enough museums that would want these assets to make the costs worthwhile? Noah Davis has been doing great work for the Punks community by getting those assets into museums, and today that’s only two installations.
This seems more like a way to provide targeted exit liquidity to the BAYC/MAYC communities than an actual way to move the culture forward.
Unfortunately this proposal illustrates a gross misunderstanding of how museum acquisitions work - you can’t just donate anything you want and they will take it. Donations require signifiant work and relationship building, as well as a well thought out story and financial narrative to support it. There’s also no need to acquire NFTs to exhibit them, they don’t even need to be shipped or insured as with physical work. So there’s no need to allot any treasury funds to buying NFTs for this purpose. If the goal is to have a branded traveling exhibition then a new proposal should be written focusing on that, with a significantly reduced budget that will only need to cover the branding design and marketing.
From an artist perspective I find this idea interesting.
But as a DAO member I have concerns. There needs to be more info on the implementation of this idea, including which museums are even interested/accept NFTs. Documentation of interest from these museums would be helpful. Once that is figured out then a more realistic number can be set for the NFT art donations amount & over all budget spend.
Also you are known to be an ape buyer and seller. The concerns raised needs to be addressed and something to in place to keep this from getting manipulated (by yourself and others).
And the biggest potential flaw is does this put the DAO at risk? There needs to be legal to review the entire process.
Looking forward to learn more!
I worry that this, especially if announced, would just lead to some people flipping for profit because of the impending purchase.
However, I think that maybe buying a smaller number of apes/mutants/doggos to create an exhibit that could travel to different museums could be a cool idea. It could integrate a timeline of what Yuga has done (including games etc), and place apecoin as the base of the Yuga ecosystem, which could promote apecoin to museum goers.
Alternately, I am pretty sure a wide number of Yuga holders would be happy to lend out their apes to be exhibited at museums. Apecoin could just sponsor the exhibit and be one of the main things introduced to the audiences there too.
Just some quick thoughts.
Welcome Machi! The basic idea is really interesting. A lot of the questions I have already been posted, however, I’ll just reiterate that I think the DAO acquiring notable NFTs to share with museums, however, on a smaller scale than what you’ve proposed. In addition to whether you already have sourced museums that would do this, I’d love to see a plan for curation. This could be a really good way to show that the DAO is for everyone - not just Yuga.
That’s actually a more practical approach. The owner can license the rights to the museum.
Do museums care about stuff this recent? (no idea)
well said SerA! I think it can be cool from a historical stand point
Yup. All of the above. Plus, I am pretty sure that if any museum wanted an APE exhibit they would have curated them by now.
Probably the worst and most DANGEROUS idea for the whole ApeCoin ecosystem. This only creates a false floor push and this should be achieved organically (by growth of the ecosystem) and not by using the treasury in this. This in turn will generate a butterfly effect as a lot of ApeCoin would be immediately released to the market and generate a lot of selling pressure which will cause the price of ApeCoin to plummet. That this idea is just being created surprises me for the worse but that some members of the community support it surprises me even more. I really believe that people have not really thought through the terrible consequences of this and this will only temporarily (just a few days) benefit those who want to sell immediately the floor goes up, which will cause the floor to plummet even more. Just terrible…
Exact. You have provided a correct picture of the dangers that this proposal brings. it is a proposal that must not pass, not in the terms in which it was presented.
I love the general idea of this as a way to make the DAO a steward and champion for web3 culture in the real world. I think it is the exact type of thing that the DAO should be doing and I would fully support it. Probably the most exciting idea I have heard for a large project for the DAO to undertake.
