AIP-555: Rebranding ApeCoin: Transition from Ape Skull to New Gorilla Logo

PROPOSAL NAME:
Rebranding ApeCoin: Transition from Ape Skull to New Gorilla Logo

TEAM DESCRIPTION:
Author - Captain Trippy - former SC and current Banana Bill advisor.

PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION:
This AIP proposes to change the current ApeCoin logo from the ape skull to the new gorilla logo. This rebranding initiative aims to refresh the ApeCoin identity, aligning it with the evolving vision and values of the ApeCoin ecosystem while also enhancing its visual appeal and recognition within the broader crypto community. This AIP also aims to make a more clear distinction between the BAYC community and the DAO community. With the launch of ApeChain, the DAO now has its north star and I believe it is important for it to have its own unique brand/ identity. Updating the logo achieves that objective while also signaling that both the DAO and ApeChain is the place to ape for all, and not just BAYC.

BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:
1. Unique Branding that fits the culture of the DAO and ApeChain and is more clearly differentiated from BAYC.
2. Enhanced Recognition comes from the unique branding across the wider crypto ecosystem and world.

STEPS TO IMPLEMENT:
1. Logo Transition: Implement the logo change across all ApeCoin and ApeChain platforms, including the website, social media, marketing materials and any third parties showcasing the token.
2. Official Announcement: Make an official announcement regarding the logo change to the community and stakeholders.

REPORTING EXPECTATIONS:
The expectation is that this proposal would be implemented by the DAO’s administrative team. The community should regularly review the impact of this proposal. If accepted, the administration and the community should review the impact of the updates after the 3-month period for conflict ends.

OVERALL COST:

“Total amount requested from the ApeCoin Ecosystem Fund = $0.”

Upon approval, The Foundation would be expected to update the logo across all ApeCoin platforms, including the website, social media, marketing materials and any third parties showcasing the token, and make an official announcement regarding the logo change to the community and stakeholders.

I love the new gorilla logo.

As part of this, would love some perspective from outside the DAO (ideally people/ holders we are trying to attract to ApeChain).

Would also love (whether part of this or separate) a more streamlined process to request use of the TM by DAO members.

Could we add some compensation for any AIP authors that have received DAO funding and/or licensing to produce products featuring the existing ApeCoin logo? I’m thinking of @richclassdecor with his 500 ApeCoin rugs but I am sure there are others that would end up stuck with products if the DAO were to make this move.

Everything aside, I think its a bit concerning that Apecoin logo was casually changed to a Gorilla considering that we are a DAO and many people had put in tradesmark agreement request for Apecoin logo which are still to this date unanswered.
No views just a concern.

@ernestlee A good point.

Also the AIP idea is hard to read here.

The second author is left blank. Is this a typo?

Interesting in this AIP you are listed as an advisor to the Banana Bill, but this was banned from the moderators to being added to AIP-466 Author description.

The idea of broader brand appeal could be interesting and enable the Ape Foundation to have its own IP independent from a Yuga licence to use the current ApeCoin Logo.

Hi Ernest,

I have a problem with a “compensation for all” model/direction.

Branding/logos do change, that’s a reality, and this in itself does not automatically make the products less valuable. Some may argue they’d increase in value.

I think it’s a slippery slope as we’ve approved so many AIPs with branding/logo usage agreements in place, so where to draw the line so the flood gates aren’t opened.

We’d then get into who would verify all the “claims” and the criteria - maybe a better solution would be parties effected submit an AIP for the community to discuss & vote on individually, leaving the AIP above unpolluted with talk of compensation.

Rug specific - let’s get an AIP to buy the fully completed rugs and use as prizes at events etc as collectors’ pieces.

Tl;dr - In favour of the rebrand, just not in favour of turning on the compensation money printer.

Let’s help get some of these rugs sold btw. Retweets & endorsements help.

Agree with intent behind this. Would probably need to limit financial exposure (may not make everyone “whole” but can help) to make it palletable.

I certainly understand not wanting “compensation for all” but want the community to consider that deciding to simply change the logo could have unexpected effects. That being said, I also agree with @Evil and @chimperton above that we should have some opportunity for discussion and a vote before we change the logo on things like the X account. (cart before the horse and all).

Thank you for remembering us Ernest! We have dyed yarn for all 500 rugs & in our AIP we were advised not to ask for any funding in exchange of marketing support. In nearly 17 months there has only been 1 tweet & 1 rt while in our AIP it was supposed to be a biweekly tweet. We have been marketing these many times a week & we have spent way longer time waiting for this. We would appreciate if the dao could step up in helping us.
We have also spoken to many individuals however no help. We are a community member who is providing value & the community loves the quality we are providing so why is a tweet from the dao not happening?

Secondly, these are not just any rugs. These are official Apecoin Rugs. Could be used for irl events or rewards for gaming competitions etc. There is no limit to possibilities. But we need the support because our artisans are dependent upon this.
