Introduction to Boring Brew

Boring Brew LLC is a specialty coffee brand established in 2021, with a mission to blend premium coffee culture with the dynamic world of Web3. Since its inception, Boring Brew has focused on delivering freshly roasted coffee on demand, emphasizing quality and authenticity. As one of the first Ape Brands, Boring Brew proudly holds the MBA License #00027 from the Made by Apes (MBA) program, signifying its dedication to creating Ape-inspired consumer products.

Our journey from a small specialty coffee business to a recognized brand in the Ape community demonstrates our belief in the power of digital assets to create real-world impact. We are committed to expanding the ApeCoin and Web3 experience into the physical world, introducing customers to both specialty coffee and crypto culture in a welcoming, accessible way.

Boring Brew’s Highlights

  • Selected as one of the featured brands for Season 6 of the Built by ApeCoin Accelerator Program by Thank Ape, delivering over 200 Free Coffee Bags to the community, inspired by ApeCoin.

  • Showcasing 25+ custom coffee bag designs created by renowned Web3 artists, these designs combine augmented reality, traditional 3D art, and storytelling to represent the unique personalities of each Ape owner. Each bag features aunique blend tailored to match the style of its Ape and other IPs and NFTs Projects.

  • Continuing to innovate through coffee, Boring Brew has introduced limited-edition alternatives, including Cold Brew Cans and, most recently, 100% Compostable Coffee Pods that are USDA Organic certified.

  • Our bags were also showcased during Coachella 2023 in an exclusive partnership with Dream Hollywood Hotel, bridging the gap between traditional audiences and the Ape ecosystem.

Proposal Description

Boring Brew LLC proposes to expand its specialty coffee brand with two innovative, ApeCoin-themed coffee shops, located in Miami (USA) and Medellin (Colombia). These physical spaces will serve as hubs for the Web3 community, featuring free weekly coffee for ApeCoin holders, regular events themed around ApeCoin and ApeChain, and an experience-driven atmosphere inspired by the Apes. The coffee shops aim to bridge the physical and digital worlds, driving broader ApeCoin adoption and creating new opportunities for community engagement.

Motivation

Boring Brew LLC aims to create the first ApeCoin-themed coffee shops, offering a space where the Web3 ethos meets traditional coffee culture. This project is motivated by a commitment to showcase the cultural impact of ApeCoin and ApeChain in a tangible way. By designing these coffee shops around ApeCoin’s style, we’re building a bridge between the digital and physical worlds, inviting not only Web3 enthusiasts but also traditional coffee consumers to engage with the ApeCoin ecosystem. To achieve this, we are also proposing a brand redesign for these locations, enabling us to connect more effectively with non-Web3 audiences.

Through this endeavor, we’ll increase visibility and understanding of ApeCoin and ApeChain. The coffee shops in Miami and Medellin will act as accessible gateways to Web3, making ApeCoin’s presence felt in two key cities for crypto innovation and cultural fusion. To immerse customers in the ApeCoin experience, the coffee shops will incorporate ApeCoin-inspired colors and visual elements, while proudly showcasing Boring Brew’s distinct brand and logo. This blend will allow Boring Brew to remain true to its roots while expanding ApeCoin’s visibility in a friendly, physical environment that appeals to both Web3 and non-Web3 audiences.

Our theme will draw in a diverse audience and demonstrate ApeCoin’s utility, creating opportunities for both crypto newcomers and experienced users to experience and adopt ApeCoin.

Rationale

Boring Brew will use these coffee shops to demonstrate how digital assets like ApeCoin can enhance real-world experiences. By offering ApeCoin holders free weekly coffee benefits and discounts on specialty products, we aim to make ApeCoin both a gateway and a loyalty token for our community-focused cafes. This initiative will inspire non-Web3 customers to explore the ApeCoin ecosystem, leading to broader adoption and a new cultural platform for ApeCoin.

Market and Strategy

Miami Market:
• We plan to set up in Coral Gables, a vibrant area with steady foot traffic from professionals, tourists, and locals.
• It’s close to investment firms, small businesses, and upscale neighborhoods, ideal for attracting a loyal customer base.
• Competitors: While the area has coffee shops, none focus on our unique combination of direct-sourced coffee and strong branding and activities.

Medellín Market:
• The coffee culture is thriving in Medellín, and turnkey location can be secured at $20K-$30K. Additionally, Medellín is becoming a key destination for American and European tourists, as well as digital nomads. This allows us to tap into a new customer base that might be familiar to crypto.
• Medellín provides an opportunity to create strong local ties and highlight our direct-sourced, high-quality coffee.

The budgett will be strategically allocated across these two coffee shop locations and operational efficiencies, ensuring solid cash flow and growth potential. Here’s a breakdown of our plan:

  1. Miami Coffee Shop (Coral Gables):
    • We plan to acquire a turnkey coffee shop at $140K with an existing annual cash flow of approximately $70K.
    • Minimal spending will be required on branding and improvements.
    • Coral Gables is an ideal location with strong demand and foot traffic.

  2. Medellín Coffee Shops:
    • We have identified several turnkey opportunities ranging from $20K to $30K per location.
    • This allows us to expand to two or three locations with a low capital requirement.

  3. Lower Operational Costs:
By sourcing coffee directly from the source, we can significantly reduce costs and increase profit margins.

Ownership of Locations: Boring Brew LLC will own the physical spots. While ApeCoin DAO is a huge part of our vibe and community, it’s not set up to own or run physical businesses like coffee shops. Our mission is to build real-world hubs that bring the ApeCoin culture to life, but ownership and operations will stay with Boring Brew.

Taxes and Crypto: We’re mindful of the tax implications when converting crypto to fiat and have factored that into our planning to ensure everything runs smoothly both in the US and Colombia locations.

Benefit to ApeCoin Ecosystem

Expanding ApeCoin’s Brand Reach:

By establishing ApeCoin-themed coffee shops in Miami and Medellin, Boring Brew will bring ApeCoin and ApeChain exposure to new audiences, including locals, tourists, and the Web3 community. The shops will use branding, ApeCoin-focused decor, and Ape-themed events both in English and Spanish to spread awareness and engage a wider demographic with the ApeCoin brand.

Broadening Community Engagement:

As physical hubs for ApeCoin holders, the shops will host themed events, weekly free coffee offerings to ApeCoin Holders, and educational sessions that appeal to both Web3 and traditional consumers. For example, our monthly events will introduce customers to specialty coffee, highlight ApeCoin’s benefits, and showcase ApeChain projects. This community-centered approach will increase the number of ApeCoin holders and foster loyalty by creating memorable, shared experiences around the ApeCoin brand.

Supporting the ApeCoin DAO Directly:

By donating 10% of merchandise sales and 2% of coffee sales to the ApeCoin DAO, Boring Brew contributes to the DAO’s sustainability and supports projects within the ApeCoin ecosystem. This revenue sharing demonstrates that a physical business can successfully integrate Web3 and support the DAO while driving community engagement and brand loyalty.

Strengthening ApeCoin’s Position as an Innovator in Real-World Web3 Applications:

The coffee shops will introduce innovative ApeCoin integrations, such as weekly free coffee for ApeCoin holders and unique NFT collaborations, showcasing the practical use of digital assets in real life. Our in-store experiences and upcoming partnerships will reinforce ApeCoin’s image as a pioneering force in the Web3 space.

Specifications

Tokengated Integration: Verification for ApeCoin ownership will be handled through Tokengated Apps and Shopify POS systems, ensuring secure and seamless benefits.

POS and Payment Integration: Boring Brew will assist non-Web3 customers in creating wallets and obtaining ApeCoin in-store, facilitated by easy-to-follow guides and trained staff.

Marketing Strategy: A community-first approach will leverage Ape influencers and local partnerships to attract both Web3 and traditional audiences.

Solid team and concept.

How much runway does this $450k get you? Not sure what leasing and buildouts cost myself, but will the amount sufficiently cover what you need?

Seems like a solid proposal. I’m new here so forgive me if any of this has been covered. I’m curious about the coffee market in Miami and Medellin. Miami is a big city.

Where are you planning for the location to be (Downtown Miami or a suburb of Miami)? What is the demand for coffee in that area of Miami? Is it near any investment firms for new walk-in customers (Charles S, Ed Jones or SLR)? Or other businesses? Who are your competitors in that area? Obvious none exactly like your business model but just coffee in general.

Thanks for your time. I wish you all the success you desire.

Great question Jasper! Here’s some additional insight into the markets and strategy:

1. Miami Location:

3. Runway from $450K:
• Miami Setup: $200K
• Medellín: ~$60K-$90K
• Branding Costs: $30K-$50K (Miami + Medellín)
• Operational Expenses: The remaining funds ($110K-$160K) will cover 8-12 months of operations, with expected positive cash flow from both locations.

We are confident this strategy will allow us to establish a profitable, efficient coffee shop network in two key markets.

Very helpful and key point that you are buying turnkey shops, not starting from the ground up.

Good luck!

hello boringbrew.
im all in with this idea. ill ask the same question i asked a couple days ago at the mocabread idea:

  • how are you planning to buy the locations, who is going to own them (apecoin dao, boring brew, a new llc, a new dao, etc?)
  • you are asking for XXX amount in crypto, are you considering the taxes you’ll have to pay when converting to fiat.

other than that i’ve followed @erod_eth trajectory since he launched boring brew, his commitment and his compelling stories are heart-warming. putting aside all the legalese, no doubt i will support him and this aip.

Thank you for your response. Definitely good point that you are taking over a turnkey location and at a reasonable price for the markets.

@BoringBrew

@ernestlee would be a good one to consult with about the taxes.

Best of luck to you.

Hey @chaps Chaps thanks for the awesome questions and all the support since day one!

Please take a look to the following answers:

  2. Value for ApeCoin Holders: We’re cooking up some cool ideas to make these spots extra special for ApeCoin holders. Think exclusive perks like weekly coffee giveaways, discounts, free merch, or even unique live events and experiences. It’s all about blending the physical and digital worlds and giving back to the Ape community and bringing more people into the ecosystem.

  3. Taxes and Crypto: We’re mindful of the tax implications when converting crypto to fiat and have factored that into our planning to ensure everything runs smoothly both in the US and Colombia locations.

We’re excited to build something the community can be proud of, and I truly appreciate your support and thoughtful questions :coffee:
