AIP Idea: Staking - Process by the Community

First, thanks for taking a stab at an update to the AIP. Here’s a couple thoughts:

Also for all comments about this AIP Idea not addressing the cap limits and topics in the failed AIP-5 please note we will be making changes to this AIP before draft AIP submission. This post was to start the 7 day clock so that we can move on to making the full proposal.

It seems like we’re lacking some clarity on the process itself, and the purpose of the clock.

First, the AIP Idea phase’s main purpose is outlining everything that may go in the eventual AIP Draft, as well as gathering support for the proposal itself. Given that, I’d consider this proposal still in the “Idea” phase as it’s incomplete.

Meaningful changes like you’re proposing should be happening now. By “starting the clock” you’re eating into the time to gather feedback and support for the idea.

Once something is in the Draft phase, which you’re hoping to get to, changes to those drafts are only for correcting or adding missing information. See AIP-1’s guidance:

The moderator may then continue communication with the author to inform them of any incorrect or missing information that needs to be changed—or clarifications that need to be made—in order for the AIP Draft to comply with the DAO-approved guidelines and move to the next step.

In this proposal you’re referencing “AIP-6”. It would be a good idea to update this as numbers are not actually given out until the draft has been formally adopted. See here:

When the moderator confirms that an AIP Draft complies with the DAO-approved guidelines, they assign a number to the AIP for identification purposes throughout the rest of the process.
