AIP-268: ApeCoin DAO Voting Adoption Driven by Good Month Labs

Proposal Name: ApeCoin DAO Voting Adoption Driven by Good Month Labs

Proposal Category: Core: Ecosystem Fund Allocation

Abstract:

In this AIP, we will detail how Good Month Labs will drive ApeCoin DAO voting adoption. Over the past 6 months, Good Month Labs has established a web3 podcast called Never Fade. The Never Fade podcast has proven distribution across multiple web3 communities and can be used as a distribution point to drive hype around the Active AIPs to show the DAO’s consistency & effectiveness. Using its Cake platform, Good Month Labs will create a custom dApp to incentivize adoption of governance by allowing the engaged audience of Never Fade to earn $APE. A scalable dApp will allow for deeper integration of networks in the future.

Author/Team Description | Who are we?

Goodmonth.eth (Andrew Medearis): is a web3 technologist who has been involved in the ETH space since 2014 and was previously a cybersecurity product leader. He was a part of an exit— selling Digita Security to Jamf Software where they helped Apple retool macOS’ security framework for enterprise. In 2021 he went full-time launching Good Month Labs (goodmonth.io) and has incubated Cake as a result. Additionally, he is a host on Never Fade and continues to build out more shows under the Never Fade media arm.

Motivation | Why should ApeCoin DAO fund Good Month Labs?
Problem

The web3 space has had a lot of turnover in participants over the past 2 years. Participants in the space are spread across multiple communities and the visual and audio economy competes for attention. Currently, the most common path of learning about what ApeCoinDAO is doing requires the following critical user journey (CUJ) *assuming someone already holds $APE and they are not incentivized to return

Most people in the web3 space are unaware of active AIPs, and if they do hear about the AIP they are unaware of the status of the AIP or the progress if it passes. A lot of this has to do with friction to access information as detailed in the CUJ above, but additionally web3 participants need to be motivated and incentivized to further inquire.

Solution:
Voter Adoption dApp UI/UX Demo - YouTube

With this proposal, we can use Never Fade’s reach to motivate our podcast audience to get involved with the ApeCoin DAO in 3 ways:

  1. Hosts discussing live AIPs on the Never Fade podcast to give our takes and introduce a call to action (CTA) for a known quantity audience that has builder interests and qualities to provide their opinions (Reach)
  2. Provide a landing page (dApp) to the Never Fade audience to further inspect a digestible and summarized AIP they hear about on the podcast while also earning $APE (Approachability)
  3. Provide a multiplier of $APE earned for those who earn & vote consecutively (Incentivization)

By creating these 3 drivers for a well known personality of web3 native members, we have the ability to measure adoption efforts and gain insights into behaviors we can build and thus extend quality engagement which should be the long-term focus after adoption.

User Stories:

Persona A: Person who has never been involved in the ApeCoin DAO

  1. User learns about live AIP being put up on cakeapp.xyz/earn-AIP via a twitter clip on NeverFade twitter or on the NeverFade podcast
  2. User provides 2 opinion scale & 2 yes or no answers to questions based on AIP info
  3. User has ability to claim $APE
  4. User is directed to official snapshot page to vote

Persona B: Person who returns to earn $APE

  1. User learns about live AIP being put up on cakeapp.xyz/earn-AIP because they have signed up for email notifications
  2. User provides 2 opinion scale & 2 yes or no answers to questions based on AIP info
  3. User has ability to claim $APE & is notified that they have a multiplier for consecutive claims
  4. User does not need to claim and spend gas as long as they have at least 1 $APE in their wallet
  5. User is directed to official snapshot page to vote
  6. User has ability to share that they have voted on twitter and earned $APE
  7. User is asked to get notified about next opportunity to earn $APE

Past AIP Proposals Considered:

We explored some posts in the past that have had a similar idea of incentivizing voter adoption and wanted to address some of the arguments that were risen in AIP-100 https://forum.apecoin.com/t/aip-100-to-incentivize-decision-making-activity-by-rewarding-apecoin-dao-voters-with-free-nfts/8108

  • AIP-100 was determined that it promoted an outside project and this should have not been inclued.
    – Our consideration: We are not promoting any project or brand with this dApp but instead we are using our brand to drive our existing reach to take part in membership of the ApeCoin DAO and become engaged in a web3 community. The incentive we will be offering is inherent to the ApeCoin DAO brand itself with it being $APE coin
  • AIP-100 had feedback from @mariaab who stated, " just my $0.02 but do we want to incentivize those people to vote? will they have the long-term interests of the DAO in mind?Increasing participation is a great initiative, but the goal should be to increase quality participation.”
    – Our consideration: We totally agree with this statement. Quality participation and long-term interest is the goal. We think that the $APE incentive is low enough that people won’t see too much benefit from farming, but will see more benefit by continuously returning and being in the know which keeps them educated and we believe that is the first step to quality participation. We also have direct feedback from our listeners that they enjoy the higher intellectual ROI they get out of the podcast so we believe our listeners could be a targeted persona that can increase quality persona and have potential to be builders in the space as those are the guests we have on the pod. We think this would be a larger problem if the initiative was broadcasted on a audience we couldn’t define as “quality.”
  • AIP-100 had feedback from @apethor who stated, “Offering rewards for voting is a form of manipulation that undermines the integrity of the voting process. It sends a message that voters are not motivated by their own beliefs and values, but instead need to be bribed to participate. This not only devalues the democratic process, but also opens the door for fraud and unequal distribution of resources, as some individuals may falsely claim rewards or prioritize their own financial gain over their civic duty. Furthermore, offering rewards for voting can also be seen as a form of bribery, which is illegal in many countries and can lead to serious legal consequences for election officials. In short, vitiating the voting process by offering rewards for voting is a wrong and unethical practice that undermines the principles of democracy and the importance of genuine engagement.”
    – Our consideration: In the long-term a well ran democracy should have grassroot organizations that advocate for their ideals and educate and drive adoption of voting, which is taking action. In that long-term situation, there is a world where the grassroots organizations are publicly funded by grants to have the opportunity to engage people. The voters in this scenario aren’t being paid, but the people that help people become aware of how they can take an action are funded to encourage action. We see this proposal as a way to fund action for web3 participants and iterate on how we can best engage them once we get them in the door to get involved. Good Month Labs is a group of builders that have been involved in the Yuga Ecosystem since mint day, and even with the skills and passion to be involved with the DAO we are not as involved as we should be because it is not promoted or encouraged enough by the people who we pay attention to in the space and we want to change that. We agree that we have to learn from our insights to ensure that incentives are correct and driving quality participants, but for this particular proposal we are focused on capturing more people to get involved who can be quality participants.

Details on Reach of the Never Fade Podcast

The Never Fade content team generated 1k watch hours on YouTube & 500k impressions across twitter in Q1’23. The podcast has produced 21 episodes and has a reputation for hosting builders who are dedicated to web3 and are going to be staples in the space for years to come.

Details on Deliverables & KPIs:

The following are analytics that we will be building into the dApp to ensure that we can measure success and track against these Key Performance Indicators. The following metrics will allow us to measure what is working well, and what needs improvement. These KPIs will also allow us to have insight into how we can further build out features into the dApp if there is market fit (i.e. provide referral link to the dApp for other content creators)

  • Monthly Active Users (MAUs) & Daily Active Users (DAUs) of dApp
    – Number of wallets interacting with dApp
    – % of total wallets interacting with highlighted AIP
    – Number of wallets per multiplier bracket
    – The ratio of wallets that have Earned $APE & Voted on Snapshot
    – ***part of the initial scope will be to work with the Good Month Labs team to set expectations/goals and track against assumed KPIs and define what success will look like once traction is present
  • Deliverables
    – By the end of the proposal, we will have an on-demand .PDF reporting download to provide transparency in KPI measurement at minimum and/or a dashboard that can be accessed at best.
  • Not in scope, but anticipated next steps for the project after the timeline is up (subject to change):
    – Provide a raffle mechanism supported by chainlink (VRF) for wallets who have earned + voted to win an NFT (Gamification)
    – KPIs:
    — Number of raffles won per wallet
    — Number of raffles claimed by wallet
    — Number of raffle winnings unclaimed

Rationale

Key Terms

  • KPI
    – Key performance indicators are defined analytics with a framework of goals to ensure that efforts are being measured properly and aligned to show what success looks like
  • dApp
    – Decentralized application is a website with a function that allows self-custody or custodial wallets to interact with a smart contract on a blockchain, in this case it would be on Ethereum as that is where $APE lives.
    – $APE Multiplier
    1. User will receive a multiplier (1.2x) on their next $APE to reward continuous voting, the multiplier will compound.
      1. Possibility but requires technical research: Ideally add a larger multiplier when a streak occurs (increment of 5 votes in a row) but the technical capability to do this is TBD rn.
    2. Formula: (1 $APE * 20% multiplier)[1]
    3. Example:
      1. 1st time user will be rewarded 1 $APE
      2. 5th time user will be rewarded 2.4 $APE
      3. 20th time user will be rewarded 38.33 $APE

Tech/Software

Cake App:
A web3 SaaS product already built by Good Month Labs

Here is a list of existing features that will not need to be funded by the proposal*:

  • dApp hosted on a aws (serverless) (trycake.xyz)
  • web3 wallet library for self-custody (rainbow wallet kit)
  • Custodial wallet services (paper.xyz)

Product Scope:

Here is a list of existing features that will need to be funded by the proposal:

  • The following functionalities will need to be built in the dApp
    – Chat UX digestible AIP summary (Typeform)
    – Link to formal AIP proposal
    – Optional: Hosted content from NeverFade Podcast (Youtube)

  • Will need to build a new contract which stores and secures the $APE coin in the claiming pool and has the following functionalities:
    – Highly Digestible AIP Summary using Chat Style UI (Typeform)
    – Claim function for $APE (erc-20) will need to be a function developed into Cake and the customer will access the link on Cake’s domain (cakeapp.xyz).
    – The contract will need to identify wallets that have claimed and provide a multiplier to claim amount
    – The contract will have timeframe windows that are set to facilitate Live AIPs which will restrict one claim per wallet per AIP (i.e. A single wallet will only be able to write a single $APE claim per AIP proposal)
    – Each new Live AIP will allow for any wallet to write a single $APE claim
–Claim will require gas for this proposal, sponsored gas is an opportunity for a later proposal
    – IF a owner has atleast one $APE in wallet they can bypass their claim and still have access to claim at any point to save ETH (gwei). In the event that the server is no longer supporting the function, they will always be able to access their $APE via the OpenSources contract.
    – Tradeoff: We are making a trade off to allow an owner to save on gas for the claim as long as they are capable of making a vote with atleast 1 $APE. Our goals and KPIs around this proposal is to get as many wallets to vote on as many AIPs as possible. We are not trying to get as many people to vote with as much $APE as they have earned on every AIP.

The claim function and dApp will need to have analytics instrumented to measure the following:

    • Number of wallets interacting with dApp
    • % of total wallets interacting with highlighted AIP
    • Number of wallets per multiplier bracket
    • The ratio of wallets that have Earned $APE & Voted on Snapshot
    • ***part of initial scope will be to work with the Good Month Labs team to set expectations/goals and track against

*Proper testing and 3rd party Audits will be required

OUT OF SCOPE (but of interest for future proposals)

    • Chainlink VRF for raffle of erc-721s
    • Public API for other distribution mechanisms to hit the same $APE claim mechanism
    • Referral links for content creators with access to web3 communities to be incentivized to share the referral with a rev share on $APE mechanism
    • Ability for other DAOs to use the $APE claim mechanism to increase adoption on their voting proposals

Operational Steps to Implement/Execute:

  1. Review AIPs when they are live pre podcast
  2. Record a segment that highlights and educates the Live AIP(s)
  3. Hosts of podcast provide their personal take, for or against with sound rationale
    1. If dApp is not live yet, steps 1-3 repeat
    2. If dApp is live, proceed to step 4
  4. Hosts encourage the audience to go vote for the AIP at the a domain represented on by a QR code on screen
  5. Content team at GML updates the AIP summary on the dApp
  6. Once podcast is over, the Never Fade producer cuts the AIP clip & adds a QR code that points to the Earn AIP dApp
  7. The Earn AIP dApp configuration is changed to enabled and makes a $APE Claim window Active
  8. Clips Immediately published across all Good Month Labs twitters while AIP is live
  9. IF all $APE has been claimed within the earn window, Good Month Labs Twitters will send out a notice that all AIP has been earned with stats of people who have claimed and voted

Technical Steps to Implement/Execute:

  1. Research 3rd party tooling that allows for claims with complexities to be configured to meet our requirements & make a “buy versus build” decision”
  2. Integrate Typeform Chat UI/UX into Cake dApp frontend
  3. Instrument application with analytics for KPIs
  4. Log actions in database for reporting purposes
  5. Integrate or build claim contract based on outcome of step 1
    1. IF build claim contract internally, use 3rd party for audit
  6. Load test server for performance
  7. QA test
  8. Product support for length of AIP proposal

Timeline for Work:

    • A discount to make the number meme right

Conclusion:

One of the single greatest predictors that a community will thrive is the sharing of beliefs and values, and the continued communication of it’s members. What Good Month Labs hopes to bring to the already thriving Ape Coin DAO is a force multiplier to ensure the posterity of it’s members and shared interests.

Two reliable, trusted and secure methods of distribution (The Never Fade Podcast & Cake App) are tried and true leaders in creating value for their participants, users and listeners. Our team is excited to share the success of each of these organizations to amplify the impact of the Ape Coin DAO and create generative and meaningful opportunities. Good Month Labs looks forward to having successful metrics that warrant further investment into the dApp to provide even more value to the Ape Coin DAO. Thank you for your consideration!

Comments based on discourse conversations:

There were a couple mentions in the discourse conversations that members of the DAO wanted us to partner with ThriveCoin and integrate and I wanted to address some of these comments.

We have a native audience to our podcast following and we feel comfortable persuading them and motivating them to get involved in the APECOIN DAO if we can have a hand in curating the experience, this is our main motivation building our own tech with an effort to curate the experience for our listeners. There have been some comments from people that they feel like everything should be integrated with existing tech in place, we are not ruling that out down the road; however, before we get into integration talks and utilization of two different company’s roadmaps we want to prove that there is viability in this solution and therefore reason to integrate.

HI @goodmonth !

The proposal is interesting. However, I have some questions and points for discussion.

Firstly, how can we ensure that the incentive provided by Good Month Labs through dApp does not lead to a short-term focus on farming $APE, rather than a long-term interest in the DAO’s success and the improvement of the ecosystem?

Secondly, while Never Fade podcast can reach a good number of people, how do we ensure that the engaged audience are interested in participating in governance and have the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions? Can you elaborate on the differences between the Twitter Spaces that focus on AIPs and this proposal?

Additionally, while the proposal mentions a “custom dApp,” there is no information on what exactly this app will do or how it will function. Could we have more information on the specifics of the dApp?

Finally, how will the success of this proposal be measured, and what metrics will be used to determine its effectiveness?

I look forward to discussing these points further.

Please provide your data channels research.
We have to note that many APEcoin holders do not even have twitter and absolutely do not use any buss words. Meaning that I am looking forward to more big DATA & professional approach with friendly language that would include everyone professionally.

Hey @MisterHype thanks for the inquiries! I have answers broken our below each point:

Firstly, how can we ensure that the incentive provided by Good Month Labs through dApp does not lead to a short-term focus on farming $APE, rather than a long-term interest in the DAO’s success and the improvement of the ecosystem?

Great Question, I think there is a distinction that needs to be made between farming and opportunity. We intend to get people involved that can see this as an opportunity and are incentivized to crack into the first layer of learning. A lot of people here have intrinsic motivation and that isn’t exactly standard for everyone who isn’t already active here. We think that small incentives will give people who are outside the ecosystem reason to pay attention and hopefully engage.
When it comes to farming there are a few countermeasures we have put in place to reduce the risk of farming only. We want to acknowledge that with any incentivization program farming is a reality, but we think the following countermeasures give us reason to build this with reduced risk: 1) $APE amounts rewarded are low, to reap the benefit the most you would have to continually engage and the more engagement we have from someone the easier it is to identify if they are net-positive or net-negative for the main goal of contribution 2) Also this proposal is timeboxed to 3-months of dApp being live. If you notice, the project proposal is for 6-months but the opportunity to earn is only for 3-months. The ability to engage without net-positive contribution can’t bleed out or drag on for a length of time that makes this proposal ineffective in the long run 3) We will be instrumenting the dApp with analytics so at 3 months if something looks like it was net-negative contribution from majority enagged we can make informed iteration and implement things like IP blocking if we feel people have created too many random wallets to farm only. We felt that the IP blocking was something we could iterate on after the 3 months but if it is desired we can consider including such countermeasures.

Secondly, while Never Fade podcast can reach a good number of people, how do we ensure that the engaged audience are interested in participating in governance and have the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions? Can you elaborate on the differences between the Twitter Spaces that focus on AIPs and this proposal?

The Never Fade community has provided us anecdotes that one of the biggest reasons they listen to our podcast is because they feel they get more smart. They learn deeper fundamentals about the space, they learn to get more critical with their thoughts so we know that they have the persona that is motivated to gain necessary and informed decisions – as for governance participation that is the big elephant in the room and the reason why we state in this proposal that we will need to be vigilant with out analytics to make informed decisions to see how many conversions of earners to voters to contributors we can help propagate. We don’t know if they are all the perfect fit for governance in the ApeCoinDAO but we know that they are motivated to make web3 a better and more enjoyable spot and we feel that is the right persona to start with and see if we can help those personas find their way here to help us grow.

Additionally, while the proposal mentions a “custom dApp,” there is no information on what exactly this app will do or how it will function. Could we have more information on the specifics of the dApp?

**Unclear on this ask, did you see the youtube video? This gives a very clear visual of how this dApp will function. Hopefully i am answering your question here, if I am missing something, please clarify! Earn $APE dApp UI/UX Demo **

Finally, how will the success of this proposal be measured, and what metrics will be used to determine its effectiveness?

**We will measure these in the analytics that are outlines in the AIP. The main metric will be conversion from adoption to engagement which is voting. I have pulled the analytics we will be tracking for success of this project from the proposal here:

  • Number of wallets interacting with dApp
  • % of total wallets interacting with highlighted AIP
  • Number of wallets per multiplier bracket
  • The ratio of wallets that have Earned $APE & Voted on Snapshot**

Hey @goodmonth,

Thanks for the detailed response! I appreciate the thoughtful consideration put into the countermeasures to prevent short-term farming and the focus on engaging individuals who are motivated to contribute to the improvement of the ecosystem.

Regarding the Never Fade podcast, it’s great to hear that the audience is motivated to gain deeper knowledge and make informed decisions. However, as you mentioned, there is a difference between being interested in governance and being interested in the space overall. I wonder if there are any plans to provide additional resources or education to listeners who may be interested in getting involved in governance but lack the necessary knowledge?

Regarding the custom dApp, thanks for sharing the demo video of the custom dApp. It gives a clear visual of how the dApp will function - missing the tech vision here, for example, It will be interesting to see how many wallets interact with the dApp and how many of those wallets go on to vote on the highlighted AIPs. Additionally, tracking the number of wallets per multiplier bracket and the ratio of wallets that have Earned $APE & Voted on Snapshot can give insights into how engaged the community is with the ecosystem.

Lastly, I appreciate the outlined metrics for measuring the success of the proposal. It will be interesting to see how many individuals transition from adoption to engagement and voting on Snapshot. I’m curious if there are any plans to measure the impact of the proposal on the overall success and growth of the DAO? For example, tracking the number of successful proposals or the increase in overall community engagement.

Thank you @MisterHype, again great Qs!

I have replied in bold to your questions in your latest post. One thing I would like to call out is that you are clearly extending the possibility and opportunity that lies ahead when we can extract and learn from analytics for the greater benefit of the DAO. A lot of your curiosities here are great follow on actions beyond this proposal, but this proposal is just the first step in allowing us to iterate so you can see these type of our outcomes.

> However, as you mentioned, there is a difference between being interested in governance and being interested in the space overall. I wonder if there are any plans to provide additional resources or education to listeners who may be interested in getting involved in governance but lack the necessary knowledge?

**Yes, we see “interest in the space” as a prerequisite to interest in governance. We know that our audience has the prerequisite required so we plan to attack this problem in a two-fold manner: **
1) [Encourage Feedback] We intend to hit our audience members with the repetitious reminder that if you are participating in the space as an observe but want to have a hand in driving forward productivity in the space the easiest and lowest lift way to get involved is voting and exercising the power of governance. Each time we do this we will ask for their feedback in our DMs or on public comments in ways that we can make AIP education and ApeCoin DAO news easier for them to follow, learn and engage with. At this point, we don’t exactly know why people who could participate aren’t participating, we only have assumptions so we look forward to providing some of that hardened data as feedback to the DAO.

2) [Resource Triage] This AIP proposal doesn’t include resource creation, but if by way of this proposal we find gaps where resources that exist today can be better or easily surfaced OR new resources need to be created we will triage these topics and rank them with priority to either hand off to another team that can extend an AIP to provide such resources or consider implementing them into the dApp in future proposals. This effort is specifically represented Product Management cost

> It gives a clear visual of how the dApp will function - missing the tech vision here, for example, It will be interesting to see how many wallets interact with the dApp and how many of those wallets go on to vote on the highlighted AIPs.

I don’t want to get too carried away with tech vision as this proposal is only for 6 months, but the possibilities in vision are end-less. A quick example would be, if this proves to have growth and success, we could instrument some of the biggest media outlets in the space to point people to this dApp to receive a rev share of the $APE earned so that such media outlets could rely on user participation of their audience for OpEx versus web2 esque advertising. But once again this vision is down the line and contingent on getting started with this project in an iterative manner. With regards to the scope of this proposal we call out our .PDF reporting in the deliverables which i’ve pulled out and pasted here below. Admittedly, I would like to make this a transparent dashboard where these analytics are defined so the entire DAO community can look into the analytics and weigh in on the KPIs and conversions from adoption to engagement. If we have to time in this proposal we can strive for it, but for now we are committing to a report that DAO can utilize to glean insights from the proposals. Everything you mentioned here will be tracked, but the dApp will not be the central place for reviewing insights in this first iteration.

  • Deliverables
    • By the end of the proposal, we will have an on-demand .PDF reporting download to provide transparency in KPI measurement at minimum and/or a dashboard that can be accessed at best.

> I’m curious if there are any plans to measure the impact of the proposal on the overall success and growth of the DAO?

Our KPIs are designed with the intent to be aligned with the success and growth of the DAO. Once the proposal is approved, we anticipate a continued evaluation of what success looks like across the roll out of this process so we’ll be able to adjust our measurements effectively. Being able to compare these metrics side by side will help us tweak and adjust along the way to ensure a rising tide for all stakeholders. Admittedly we are not experts in what success of the DAO should look like, we feel like the measurement of DAO growth and success is up to the members contributing to the difference. As a post-mortem of this proposal we will likely suggest that a working group is put together to help define what the growth and success of the DAO looks like and the framework we can measure against so we can continue to feed metrics into the framework that helps the community members have data they can make informed decisions on.

Thanks!

Hi @goodmonth,

Your topic will be moving to the AIP Draft phase in less than 24 hours. Are you content with the feedback received or do you wish to extend community discussion for another 7 days?

If we do not hear from you within 48 hours after your topic closes, your topic will be moved straight to the AIP Draft process.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hey @Vulkan.Admin!

I’m discussing with the internal team on whether we would like to extend, obviously we would like to give people more time to read and get feedback in but unsure at levels of engagement that are typical in discourse.

What’s the avg and median number of comments a LIVE AIP typically receives? Would like to make this decision based on the data we have seen in discourse to date.

Thanks for your help!

Hi @goodmonth,

We don’t currently have data on the number of comments AIPs have received. We can look to gather that information but it will take some time.

For now, your best bet is to probably take a look at some recent AIP threads and see how many comments they have received to compare.

Thanks,

Vulkan

What’s up @goodmonth, glad you’re here, really dig your podcast.

If it will help your research, I keep a spreadsheet with every AIP to reach Live stage with accessible links, if you’d like me to share it with you. It won’t give you the direct data you need, but may help you approach what you’re looking for in a more organized way.

I like the idea!

However, this overlaps greatly with ThankApe initiative and I think you should integrate with them instead. They already have the contracts, everything. May need slight website update to add ability to answer question about AIP to get $ape, dunno.

As a user, I don’t want to go to multiple places to earn ape for DAO participation.

This will eliminate $46,000 from your costs and make the rest of the proposal a lot simpler and vote-able (both due to lower amount and b/c people are already onboard with ThankApe/ThriveCoin efforts).

Hope this helps, cheers and best of luck.

Hey @Vulkan.Admin sounds good! We pulled the data and we seem to be inline with some of the replies, so we can go ahead and close out when the timer ends! Also, getting some good last minute comments which I will respond to.

Here is the data for your reference:
The median is under 10, the outliers are 10+ responses.

Hey @Sasha!

Thank you so much for your great questions and feedback!

I think you bring up a very good point of distinction. This proposal is for people we know and have identified as “web3 interested” outside of the ApeCoin DAO whom are not yet engaging versus rewarding people who are already earning from ThankApe.

  • The user doesn’t know they can contribute without having a Yuga NFT asset
  • The user doesn’t think there is any incentive to learning about what is happening in the ApeCoin DAO if not an active member
  • The user isn’t even aware of ThankApe as an opportunity once you’re contributing inside the DAO
  • This user is on the perimeter of the DAO and is driven to it because of their interest in web3 that they have shown in builder circles who associate with ApeCoin DAO but they don’t directly

With the distinction of personas between people who are not yet earning ThankApe and those who are currently, I don’t believe their is any overlap.

Our goal with this proposal is to drive adoption with people that are on the perimeter of the DAO right now and to motivate them to get inside. The metric that will be our most important indicator of this project will be “Who has engaged with the dApp and voted for the first time.” Once we have enough conversion data, we can add a metric that measures “How many converted voters from dApp are engaging in ThankApe,” I don’t see a reason why we can’t add this metric to our proposal to extend the DAO contributors journey of contribution.

As a user, I don’t want to go to multiple places to earn ape for DAO participation.

Much like how you don’t want to go to multiple places, we are pointing our distribution of interested web3 audience to try to get engaged with the ApeCoin DAO and the ThankApe initiative is a little too buried to get them to adopt the ApeCoin DAO in the first place. We are trying to create a UX experience for our audience which we know will be help facilitate conversions to DAO contributors and give them a chance to deeper engage with the ThankApe initiative!

As for integration with ThankApe contract via ThriveCoin: down the line an integration could definitely be appropriate and we would love to do so. As the ThankApe contract and workflow exists right now it wouldn’t fit the needs of immediate rewards and incentives the personas have which we will be driving to the dApp. Though we would save some cost on development, it would likely be ineffective with the goal we have in mind for the purpose of this proposal.

Would love to hear any additional thoughts on this! Thank you so much for joining the discussion.

Absolutely do/ propose what you feel is best, but fwiw, as pure feedback / my 2 cents, your distinctions seem minor and not worth the dev effort.

The main point you’re making is that someone may be new / not yet engaging - great, so just forward them to ThankApe and they won’t be new no more. :stuck_out_tongue:

All the points you listed are educational, i.e. under direct purview of your content/you. The educating stays with your show. Requesting money for sponsorship of your show makes sense to me.

But the actual mechanism of onboarding, imho, is far less relevant and so reinventing the wheel there seems redundant. You can just collab with ThankApe to improve/add features to their wheel. Doing so also benefits your project as it can forward visitors to your show(s), same way they funnel people to ApeComms and ApeCoin spaces.

Of course I could just be bad at reading (though I’ve reread a few times) or still missing something, so plz do correct me if I’m sounding stupid hehe.

I love the feedback. I appreciate it a ton and throughout your feedback-- it’s very clear that if we intend to expand on this proposal in a later AIP then integrations with ThankApe needs to be a part of the conversation as they could be the backend to the metrics we hand off. One thing I love about DAO proposals is they can have distinct systems and facilitate different use-cases without having to jam them all into the same product/workflow. I think the goal should always be to integrate where necessary.

Disclaimer: This proposal isn’t designed to benefit us on the listener side. Want to be super clear here that our intent is not to gain followers from the ApeCoin DAO.

The ThankApe page doesn’t have the UI/UX to engage the people we want to send the DAO’s way in this particualr use-case. This makes sense as ThankApe wasn’t designed for the use-case. If we can prove this AIP use-case then we can allow for many other media distribution teams to have brand control over this dApp and broaden reach and eyes on AIPs-- also make edits to the contract that could further incentives for other media distributions such as payment splitting. We could surely work with ThankApe to update the UX for this use-case and all other use-cases that come up, but based on the ThankApe AIP, supporting media distribution with a place for their audience members to land isn’t really a part of their thesis. Do we know any of the following?

  • Do they have resources to integrate with additional use-cases?
  • Do we know what room they have on their roadmap to prioritize such efforts?
  • Do we know if they are taking features to their contract for incentivizing/claiming?
  • Does a integration proposal here delay timeline and make us pull from two teams without the proper data to know if investing in an integration is beneficial?

I would love to partner with them to have clear direct hand-offs from adoption to engagement inside, once we prove this use-case. I fear that working toward integration from the start without clear analysis on the data might pull focus time away from both teams and lead to friction in coordination.

Side note on the cost basis, we will still need to allocate design and product use-cases in the case of integration. Also, due to our show driving the visibility, we would need direct access to update the content on the newly crafted UI/UX of ThankApe and unsure if this is a possibility.

Here is the example of our UI/UX that is prototyped here incase you haven’t seen it yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAL9Y4LthkA

Thanks!

@goodmonth I can appreciate the thoughtfulness and depth of this AIP. Clearly there has been a ton of work put into it. I do have a few questions/pushback.

Similarly to what @Sasha has mentioned. It seems a bit excessive for the DAO to fund another program where the main goal is to drive participation (This AIP and ThankApe). I do understand that to acquire a “customer” (CAC) there will be some sort of cost but in my opinion those costs are better spent funding a presence at IRL events, fixing our current onboarding system so that those who do come actually know what the DAO is and how it operates, updating our website to be more inviting and informational, etc.

If someone isn’t willing to take the time to learn the structure and workflow of the DAO (which is currently not an easy thing to do), read through AIPs to become an informed voter, and participate because they care about the DAO and not because they are getting a reward, do we really want them in the community anyways?

I think what ThankApe does well (and even then I am not sure I totally agree with reward based participation in this form either) is that it encourages participation across the board, not just in voting. Increased voting numbers are great, but what the DAO really needs is an increase in builders, ideas, leaders, and members who are here to support the DAO’s vision.

In your budget you mention ApeCoin funding 24% of each shows cost which of my math is correct that would be $732 per show? You then ask for only $6,000 for the actual rewards for those who vote. Essentially the whole point of your AIP, to increase number of voters through rewards, is only receiving roughly 8% of your entire budget. To me that reads as “We want to increase voter participation by rewarding people with $APE who vote, we are asking for $69,420 of which only $6000 will actually be given to voters as rewards. The rest will fund our podcast and the development of a dApp.” Do you have any plans in place that would fund voter rewards beyond this initial $6000? To pay $46,000 for a dApp that is obsolete after only 3 months of use would be a massive sunk cost.

I really hate having these convos over text and I hope this doesn’t come across as combative. This is nothing to do with you or your team. As mentioned at the beginning, clearly there has been a lot of thought and effort put into this. I just don’t see how spending $69000 to increase voter turnout is a smart investment for the DAO.

For me, it’s “integrate when possible.” Though there’s nothing wrong with us disagreeing!

I use the word “benefit” in the most generic sense, not monetary or selfish. Your goal is to help inform people about DAO. If ThankApe helps funnel any users your way, that’s more users informed = your goal is accomplished better. Hence, “you” benefit b/c your goals are accomplished even if they are altruistic goals. Same way Red Cross “benefits” from donations.

I’m not sure. Just DM them on Twitter or jump into the discord and ask.

My idea of integration was simply a link to ThankApe / explanation in your shows of what it is and how to use it. Just to clarify what I meant. So no additional cost. Perhaps we’re just imagining different things since text format conversation can def be confusing!

I’m nftsasha#0660 on discord (must add first) if you care for more sh*t opinions from a pleb or just want a soundboard and prefer clarity of voice convo. Available most of the time. Or we can jump into WG0 Discord voice channels.

Either way, again - great effort/idea and only wish you the best with this, guys!
