Opportunity to sponsor a top e-sport team

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been approached by a top and famous Esports organization from Europe. They have won numerous international trophies and they are involved in a dozen of games, including Tier-1 esports titles such as Counter Strike 2, League of Legends or Valorant.

With millions of followers on social media and presence across the world, they are looking for a main sponsor and that would include:

  • IP & Rights: Use of IP/Logo & players’ collective image, sector exclusivity, press release.

  • Branding: ApeCoin logo front and center on jersey, website, app, IRL location.

  • Players: Access to players, activation and use of their image in campaigns.

  • Digital: Bespoke content, branded content series and posts on social/website.

  • Hospitality: Privatization of their IRL headquarter, stadium and tickets for tournaments.

  • Special operations: From ideation to execution they provide turnkey solutions (digital & on-site).

They are already involved in web3 with a dedicated program including collectibles and are looking to expand it. As part of the partnership all their current web3 programs and NFTs would be migrated to ApeChain.

In terms of budget, the cost would be around 3.5M€ per year for main sponsorship with 20% directly dedicated to ApeCoin activations: Brand Campaigns, Product Campaigns, Dedicated Merch, Direct to consumer touch points, Content factory, Online and IRL Experiences.

Their ultimate goal beyond resources and support, is to find for a partner that will help them to keep building their web3 projects, share its expertise and help them co-construct the future of esports.

The team will disclose its name and approach if the feedback shows interest for this proposal and I will organize a space for the community to learn more about it directly from the team. I won’t get any financial retribution to this, just helping facilitate as part of my Steward role.

Thanks,

DIM

UPDATE POSTED IN THE COMMENTS:

Hi all,

As mentioned in the post and the comment, I accepted to help the team who reached out to me a while ago to the condition they will not be anonymous for the AIP and that there would be a good feedback loop for the community.

They have been working hard on a draft for their proposal and would like to present it to the community for a first round of live feedback before posting it in the forum next week.

I’ll be hosting an online call with them to introduce the company/team and their AIP idea. Everyone interested is welcome. There will be a Q&A following the presentation.

Time and Date: Friday, 25th October - 11am EST/5pm CET

See you on Friday!

Are we seriously doing that again? Didn’t we learn any lessons from the F1 fiasco?

Appreciate the comment. Just passing the message here

100% agree and they are willing to disclose their name and be fully transparent. They just want to see if there is an interest first

I understand that; but after the F1 fiasco, I would think that you would err on the side of caution and not encourage something like that again.

I mean, how do they expect us to show interest if we don’t know who they are? A key component of knowing who they are is how interest is gauged.

Anyway, tell them we said:

Exactly what I’m doing. I’m being transparent and partial on this and asking the community if it’s something they want to explore. If so I’ll be gladly helping.

In terms of the showing interest it’s not about the team name but about the idea.

All of that requires that we know the name of the team. How is withholding the name being transparent? I don’t understand that.

Transparent on the process and what’s going on behind. Not just throwing a [REDACTED] AIP in the wild.

This is not on my side. For this step they are more confortable not disclosing it. But my main condition to help was to ask the community if sponsoring an e-sport team would interest them and that they disclose their name.

I would definitely like to know who it is. That’s a crucial step. Thanks for facilitating.

…to be honest.

That sound that they found someone XXX enough to post that idea for them here.

…what a absolute joke that must be

…3.5M€ per year for main sponsorship with 20% … i laughing my XXX off :joy: these Guys

This is not a good comparison. Here I’m not asking you “should we sponsor the [REDACTED ]team?” but “Would the community be interested in exploring a potential sponsorship of an esport team?”

XXX enough? I’m elected by the community and feel like this is a duty to present this to the community. There is no engagement on my side or anything. Just doing my work.

It is crucial to vote for the sponsoring I agree. But as of right now it’s just gauging interest, and that’s it.

I totally understand  Right now not asking you to consider any team. Just asking if sponsoring an e-sport team is a direction the community would be interested to take.

If so the team will gladly unveil it’s name and kickstart the discussion around a possible AIP

Thanks for taking the time to read and understand the post Matt, I appreciate

Agree with the comments re: transparency.

Would like to see examples of how their current sponsor at this level is displayed / integrated.

Would also be interested if there would be opportunities to somehow incorporate games on ApeChain into this (e.g. a monthly stream with the team competing on various ApeChain games for awareness).

Instead of just saying no, let’s all try to see what it would take to say yes before we cast our judgment.

Short answer is yes, about ApeChain games integration, streams etc. Again, here you would not be saying yes to sponsor them, just to explore the possibility.

We are not hard stuck, your first sentence is the only answer (positive or not) possible in this post. If more people like you think it’s interesting then I’ll spend time on this with the team that will be fully disclosed etc.

Totally. Thinking ahead and definitely worth exploring IMO.

Separately, we should also think of how this sponsorship, if approved, can help onboard more people to ApeCoin/ApeChain.

It may not be enough for them to see the logo and go to ApeCoin.com.

How do we build out a true customer acquisition funnel that increases the odds all these new eyeballs become owner of $APE and, better yet, active community members in the DAO and on ApeChain?

For sure. Btw, just reached out to the team and told them that a few members are seeing the anonymity as an issue (even at this very early stage), they will talk internally to see if they are confortable sharing more at this stage.

That’s actually a wrong comparison. This is like if an external party (myself) asking a VC firm if they are interested in investing in a specific category (esport). They would answer yes or no. That’s it.
