This proposal seeks to rename the “Special Council” to the “Business Development Council” within the ApeCoin DAO. As the role evolves to focus on business development, advocacy, and guidance—rather than administrative AIP review—the new title will better reflect its current and future responsibilities. Making this change before the next election ensures clarity for both candidates and voters.
TYPE OF AIP - CONSTITUTIONAL OR NON CONSTITUTIONAL:
Depending on if the AIP is purely a change of the title or if it is a change in role scope.
Constitutional - Change in role scope Non Constitutional - Change in title
BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:
Clarity for Voters: Ensures the community understands the scope and function of the role before the next election.
Improved Communication: Reduces confusion and miscommunication regarding responsibilities.
Alignment with Current Governance: Reflects the recent changes outlined in AIP-582 and aligns titles with actual duties.
Precedent: Similar updates have been made in the past (e.g., AIP-426), demonstrating community support for role clarification.
Cleanup scope. Considers all previous duties of the Special Council listed in various AIPs and have this AIP supersede those for clarity of scope moving forward.
Cost-Neutral: No funds are required for this change.
Recent AIPs, especially AIP-582, clarify that Special Council members will no longer participate in the AIP process. Their primary role will be as ambassadors and advocates for ApeCoin DAO, while administrative and oversight responsibilities are being reassigned to the Executive Director and Foundation Directors.
Would this AIP conflict with or amend AIP-582? I have been told that an idea that I submitted conflicts with AIP-582 and therefore could not be published.
There is a 3 month window before an AIP that amends can be submitted. Let me find where that is said and post here later. Also I have been told it would only go to vote after the OnChain voting platform is LIVE. That said I did ask it goes up earlier, giving priority to 0 cost AIPs which improve the DAO.

APECOIN AND/OR THE APECOIN DAO? IF NOT, WHAT ROLE DO THEY PLAY?
The Foundation does not control ApeCoin or the ApeCoin DAO. The Foundation consists of an administrative Board, which exists solely to oversee the decisions of the ApeCoin DAO, as well as a third party project management team in charge of ensuring ApeCoin DAO decisions are implemented.
APE Foundation - The APE Foundation is the steward of ApeCoin, a legal entity that exists to administer the decisions of the ApeCoin DAO.
ApeCoin DAO - A decentralized governance organization that will make decisions regarding Ecosystem Fund allocations, governance rules, projects, partnerships, and more. ApeCoin DAO membership is open to all ApeCoin holders.
Would the Special Council still be responsible for “advocating for the ApeCoin DAO and the ApeCoin ecosystem, educating others outside of the DAO and providing advice and guidance to members of the DAO and Foundation” or would the position be changed to purely “Business Development”?
Would the Special Council still be jointly responsible for “the selection, appointment and compensation of the Executive Director”?
Lastly, if the position would be purely “Business Development” wouldn’t the new BD Council be more appropriately managed and supervised by the Ape Foundation and not the DAO?
With the removal of all other positions at the ApeCoin DAO, the Special Council is currently the last position that is directly accountable to the DAO members.
I believe if it is purely a Business Development role it is more suitable under The Ape Foundation, which you have clearly stated was given a budget in AIP-582.
A purely Business Development role is added it is a Non Constitutional AIP, however IF the Special Council is replaced with this role with the duties removing:
Then I see this is a Constitutional AIP and would need to meet the thresholds of a Constitutional AIP to pass and be implemented by the DAO.
If the Special Council keeps those duties listed above, but clarifies the Business Development aspect, then I think this could be a Non Consitutional AIP? Thoughts?
Also if a change of name was made on the current role scope APE Council is a good title.
I agree. The Foundation should have positions that clearly define a role within the foundation. Business Development of this nature needs a good structure and should be able to walk the leads through the funnel, whereas this current ask of the SC/BD is a top of funnel lead finder. Which, honestly all proactive members of the DAO should be if truly invested. We still need a conduit to and from the DAO holders and Foundation Leadership.
In follow up, can anyone point me to the Foundation Careers/Job Openings page? I would expect if no positions were open currently, there might be some soon (biz dev killers, Transparency Asassins, etc.) and there should be a Careers page with a general/generic application/resume submission at least. @Facilitators
