AIP-364: The Battle for Goblin Town - A Bored Game

Perhaps reward anyone who takes the time to vote, as opposed to rewarding those who vote yes. Then you’re rewarding participation without having it appear as buying votes.

It looks like the $1.5m is to reimburse them for development costs already spent and cost to complete it and integrate $APE.

Rewarding those who vote yes is clear bribery and manipulation. Proposals that offer to reward people who vote yes should not even make it past admin review. Either reward everyone holding a certain amount of $APE or reward everyone that votes, whether in favor or against. Even segmenting voters based on how many votes they hold is shady imo.

Appreciate your support and feedback here. We see this as opportunity for APE voters to earn free tokens (“yield”) on their Apecoin as a thank you for supporting our project.

We’ve spent a year (and hundreds of thousands of our personal money) building this game and it’s really fun. The game is nearly finished and can launch within a month or two of approval.

We believe this game is exactly why the DAO has an ecosystem fund: to support projects that give Apecoin utility and create favorable economics (burning) for the token - wrapped in a fun crypto-social game.

AIP looks interesting and super cool, but isn’t basically bribery to reward people for voting yes? Some people would and could vote yes just for the financial reward, not because of the vision/game, wonder if it makes it a fair playing field.

That’s what I thought too.

first of all, thank you for taking your time and creating the proposal

  1. rev share of 30% will also be for all revenue after the OE mint?
  2. do you have a price for the OE in mind?
  3. “Provide a sink for ApeCoin via burning*” - please explain this in detail.
  4. 1,5M needs much more details. Is this what you have spent so far?

For me the AIP seems a bit too one-sided atm to be honest.
All your costs (most likely even more than that) are covered, you get 500k marketing budget / prize money, you sell more on the initial sale because all Yuga degens will FOMO in.
We get “powered by Ape” in return and have to gamble on the game becoming a success while you completely secure yourselves with the proposal.

Appreciate you taking such a thorough look at the proposal! Answers below.

  1. Revenue share of 30% will also be for all revenue after the OE mint?

YES. We are waiting for the prop to be updated.

  1. Do you have a price for the OE in mind?

Price for OE mint is planned to be $40 USD (paid in ape of course and marketed accordingly to draw in new apecoin holders)

  1. "Provide a sink for ApeCoin via burning*” - please explain this in detail.

We removed this is in the latest version (waiting for update). Nothing burned. Just 30% of mint and ongoing game revenue goes back to DAO. Felt simpler this way.

  1. 1.5M needs much more details. Is this what you have spent so far?

We have spent a significant amount of money and resources on developing this game over the 12 months. If we developed this game for a third party we’d charge way more.

Hi ApeCoin DAO Community,

Our team has reviewed and discussed @bearsnake’s AIP Draft and have sent a list of initial questions. We await answers.

Hi ApeCoin DAO Community,

@bearsnake has responded to our questions and has provided consent to share them in this forum for the community.

1. Is the Ape Foundation expected to engage in any of the steps of the AIP implementation? If so, please specify the steps and elaborate on how it is expected to work.

I don’t think we have additional expectations from the [Foundation]. Maybe some more help getting introduced to people who run spaces to help get word out about the AIP!

2. Would your expectation be to keep complete ownership of content produced from this proposal?

Yes

3. Do you have any estimated costs for users to use the platform’s features, or any premium features?

No. You can play the game for free with the airdrop provided (if you vote on the AIP) though minimal gas fees will apply (Arbitrum). Players will also have the option to buy additional card packs which open in game items that serve a number of functions.

4. Since your game would require token holders to connect wallets, what are the plans for security audits of the game?

Security is paramount. We mention in the AIP that we will integrate Delegate to protect players NFTs.

We are also happy to discuss additional security measures but implementation will need to be vetted + approved by our team. This is necessary as we need to understand any related development / resource costs.

5. You mention airdropping a “Goblin Crate” upon opt-in, available to any wallet that votes on this proposal. Please describe how this claim process would work.

We’d create a website where valid addresses can opt-in to receiving the airdrop and then we would send the tokens to that address. We will pay the gas for this.

The reasoning behind making this opt-in (instead of automatic) is to avoid a situation where someone is potentially given a tax liability they didn’t desire.

6. Your proposal states that “Apecoin DAO will receive 30% of the mint and any Apecoin revenue generated by the game.” Please describe how this process would work.

First: The game will have an initial mint of crates. The expected price is roughly $40 USD per crate and most users will want more than one. The DAO will receive 30% of this revenue.

Second: During the game, it will be possible to mint new cards with APE. Again, in this case the DAO will receive 30% of this revenue.

Third: Royalties on the NFT items in-game will be set and 30% of this revenue will also be sent to the DAO

Technically, we will set up a “splitter” contract that will make this process automatic to send the funds to whatever address the DAO desires.

7. Are there any key performance metrics you’ll be using to evaluate the impact of this proposal?

Yes.

- DAUs (Daily active users)

- MAUs (Monthly active users)

- In Game Purchases (Card pack etc)

- Stats Associated to Ape Bridging (In game)

8. Do you provide consent to share these questions and answers with the community in this forum?

Yes, you have our consent.

A DAR package is being worked on and upon completion this AIP will move into Administrative Review. Follow this Topic as further updates will be posted here in the comments.

Kind Regards,

This should be passed. 100%.

This is what we need as a DAO to grow and make the $APE system central to web3 gaming.

Bearsnake, Dotta and ElfJ have done amazing work with Forgotten Runes.

There are few incredible builders native to web3 who are making games with original IP.

Parallel // and Forgotten Runes are two of the best.

I have been a part of the Forgotten Runes ecosystem for a while now and thoroughly enjoyed playing the alpha of their game.

Disclosure: You can see all my NFT holdings at thechaingamer.eth (mostly gaming)

This proposal is live for vote on Snapshot. The voting period closes next Wednesday at 9PM EST.

The AIP implementation is administered by the Ape Foundation. Implementation may be immaterially or materially altered to optimize for security, usability, to protect APE holders, and otherwise to effect the intent of the AIP. Any material deviations from an AIP, as initially approved, will be disclosed to the APE holder community.

I think a prizepool seems interesting and fun, but I’m curious what the expected revenue/mint price would be.

Not a fan of the hand-wavy “1.5mm isn’t that much and we’ve spent more than half of development” answer. $2mm is a lot of money. Let’s give a little breakdown of where that money is going. I am maticuluously breaking down a $200k proposal in AIP-373 on our past spend, and I’m hoping you can give us a bit of the same energy in your responses.

It seems like you’re shifting all your risk to the DAO for it to bankroll this with sparce details on the financials. The number nerds here don’t like.

Also,What will happen after the first 3 seasons? Is that like a re-assess period?

Anyway, I am close to a yes vote, as I’m a Forgotten Runes holder since the early days, but the DAO in this climate, despite the recent price appreciation, is still very skeptical of large asks, particularly ones that don’t break down 7 figure asks to the five figure chunks. Invite us into your process and share the numbers!
