AIP-400: Enable $APE as a payment option for onchain consumer transactions on Co:Create Ink

Hi ApeCoin DAO Community,

@PhishFood has responded to our questions and has provided consent to share them in this forum for the community.

  1. Is the Ape Foundation expected to engage in any of the steps of the AIP implementation? If so, please specify the steps and elaborate on how it is expected to work.

All steps of the AIP implementation will be fully managed by Co:Create Ink. Our team will provide weekly updates to the community so they are aware of where we are and any next steps. When available for public launch, we request the APE Foundation participate in co-marketing, sharing the live implementation with it’s community through X, Discord, and all other public forums.

  1. Your proposal states “2.5% of top-line revenue from all transactions paid for with $APE will be sent to the ApeCoin DAO treasury until the full allocation of this AIP is returned.”

Correct. Is there a question here about this allocation to the ApeCoin DAO treasury?

  1. Would the funds returned to the DAO be equivalent to the $50,000 USD grant or equivalent ApeCoin at the time of disbursement?

Funds returned to the DAO will be either $50k USD or the equivalent of ApeCoin at the time of disbursement. What is preferred by the DAO?

  1. Is there an expected schedule for the distribution of this revenue back to the DAO treasury?

Distribution of revenue back to the DAO treasury will occur on a bi-annual basis until $50k USD or the equivalent of ApeCoin is returned to the DAO.

  1. “10% of revenue generated through $APE transactions will be held for three months in $APE by Co:Create Ink.”
Please elaborate on your plans for committing to this schedule.

Co:Create Ink’s public wallet address will be provided to the DAO for transparency.

  1. Will the total revenue considered for this allocation be determined within a specific timeframe?

We expect to reimburse the DAO $50k within a three-year timeframe. This is subject to market conditions, including, but not limited to, overall demand for onchain tattoos and willingness to purchase in APE.

  1. How long do you plan to maintain this strategy?

The time horizon will be infinite as long as the overall demand for onchain tattoos and willingness to purchase in APE is met. We will maintain our proposed strategy for three-years.

  1. Can you provide more details on how you intend to adhere to this timetable?

All steps of the AIP implementation will be fully managed by Co:Create Ink. Our team will provide weekly updates to the community so they are aware of where we are and any next steps.

  1. This AIP will require Web3 connectivity, is there a security audit plan in place, and will you share the audit report with the ApeCoin DAO?

The ERC-721 contract used to create onchain tattoos has not been audited.

  1. Would the General Availability phase begin directly after the 4-week Beta Phase has concluded?

Yes.

  1. Would holders of the Beta Phase “Ink Early Access Pass” receive any exclusive access or premium features?

Not at this time. In the future, holders may receive early access to designs, collectibles, and other Co:Create Ink products.

  1. Will there be an expiration date or deadline to redeem the 1:1 or Limited Edition purchases?

No.

  1. As per the ApeCoin General Guidelines, “Proposals will not be put up for vote if they involve illegal activity, hate speech, pornographic material, or are at odds with the mission or values of the APE Foundation.” Can you ensure that the content produced by the artists at Co:Create Ink will be in keeping with these guidelines?

Per our Terms of Service, the following are examples of the kinds of content and/or uses that are illegal or prohibited by Co:Create Ink: unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, commercial activities and/or sales, “junk mail,” “spam,” “chain letters,” “pyramid schemes,” “contests,” “sweepstakes,” or any other form of solicitation; (vi) is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, excessively violent, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable

  1. Would your expectation be to keep complete ownership of content produced from this proposal?

Yes.

  1. Do you provide consent to apply updates to the relevant areas of your proposal based on your responses to the questions above?

Yes.

  1. Do you provide consent to share these questions with the community in this forum?

Yes

A DAR package is being worked on and upon completion, this AIP will move into Administrative Review. Follow this Topic as further updates will be posted here in the comments.

Kind Regards,

Using ApeCoin to pay for tattoos is a unique idea that could bring in new users, which is cool. But tattoos are a pretty niche interest, so not sure how many people would actually use it. It’s an innovative concept that makes sense for ApeCoin’s arts and culture vibe, but also carries some risks. Reasonable people could go either way on funding this or not. I’m kind of in the middle - I can see the upside potential but also have some reservations.

I appreciate you reviewing the proposal!

While tattoos may seem to be a nice industry, things have changed drastically in the last two decades.

1 in 3 Americans now have a tattoo. When we look at younger demographics, that percentage increases dramatically - more than 50% of women aged 18-49 have tattoos. Perceptions have also changed, with 80% of Americans stating they believe society has become more accepting of tattoos in recent years.

The tattoo industry has grown alongside this shift in perception. By some estimates, the US tattoo industry alone exceeds $1.5B USD and is projected to reach $3.9B by 2030. For all the growth and cultural relevance of tattoos, the business of tattooing has yet to evolve.

web3 natives have specifically leaned into tattoos, which I captured in a blog post last week that you can read here.

This proposal is live for vote on Snapshot. The voting period closes 13 days from now at 9PM EST.

The AIP implementation is administered by the Ape Foundation. Implementation may be immaterially or materially altered to optimize for security, usability, to protect APE holders, and otherwise to effect the intent of the AIP. Any material deviations from an AIP, as initially approved, will be disclosed to the APE holder community.

I think it is important to clarify this. As the price can fluctuate relative to USD, I suggest you just fix the repayment amount in USDC, but pay back ApeCoin at the exchange rate when it is returned.

Also, it is hard to understand the exact flow of what you are suggesting. How does the NFT work in relation to the tattoo.

Made by Apes have a few companies already accepting ApeCoin, so better to talk to them to replicate that part of the solution in a cost effective way.

Lastly, ideas sometimes need refinement and when resubmitted they have got the success they are looking for.

We appreciate you reviewing our proposal and your feedback, responses below:

Our intent is to return the $50k USD as USDC to the DAO, assuming this is preferred.

Below is the user journey for purchasing an onchain tattoo, using both general and crypto-native language:

  1. An Artist publishes a design on Co:Create Ink (creates an NFT)
  2. A Collector purchases the design (mints an NFT, purchasing with ApeCoin)
  3. The Collector and Artist coordinate a day/time to get the tattoo (redeem an NFT for priority booking)
  4. After getting the tattoo, the Collector receives a certificate of authenticity, verifying the artist and where/when it was inked (the NFT is dynamic, and the metadata reflects provenance of the tattoo)

To accept purchases in ApeCoin, we want to prioritize the project, which requires de-prioritizing building other projects on our roadmap. While a few Made by Apes’s portfolio companies accept ApeCoin, their primary focus is licensing Yuga assets for branding, not payment solutions.
