ABSTRACT:

AIP ID #420 holds special importance within the crypto industry and the Ape community.

This proposal seeks to temporarily reserve AIP ID #420 to create a meaningful impact for the DAO. The proposal team would collaborate with the community to organize a competition where the winner is awarded AIP ID #420 and an ApeCoin grant.

BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:

The community engagement resulting from the decision and the decision-making process may enhance cohesion, excitement, and involvement among ApeCoin holders. This proposal would preserve the cultural significance of AIP-420 within the ApeCoin DAO.

STEPS TO IMPLEMENT & TIMELINE:

Proposal Submission:

Submit this proposal to reserve AIP ID #420.

Reserving AIP ID #420:

The Foundation would instruct the DAO’s administrators to reserve AIP ID #420 and make updates based on the outcome of the competition. The ID # would remain reserved until a decision is made regarding who to award it to, via an organized a competition where the winner is awarded AIP ID #420 along with a grant. The final grant structure for the contest winner may include certain progress-based grant unlocks to ensure proper use of funds, rather than a one-time award.

Community Decision:

The DAO would retain custody of the AIP ID #, and the winners grant, until the final outcome of the competition. The proposal team would be responsible for project management and use no more than 15,000 ApeCoin for any expenses.

Mechanism Setup:

Organize the competition with clear guidelines. The proposal team would ensure that this is done, and would look to include additional community partners for the operations.

Decision Announcement:

Announce the decision made by the community regarding the winner and the fate of AIP ID #420. The winner would need to KYC with the Ape Foundation to receive the grant.

OVERALL COST:

This proposal requests 420,000 ApeCoin from the DAO’s Ecosystem Fund for the community contest.
The winner of the contest will be awarded with AIP #420 and a reasonable grant not exceeding 420,000 ApeCoin.

TLDR: We want to save AIP ID #420 to help give it a chance to create a meaningful impact for the DAO. The community would have a contest to award the AIP ID #420 along with a grant, this would be the first step to help ensure AIP ID #420 doesn’t end up in the Rejected AIPs folder.

@Lost has responded to our questions and has provided consent to share them in this forum for the community.

1. Is the Ape Foundation expected to engage in any of the steps of the AIP implementation? If so, please specify the steps and elaborate on how it is expected to work.
It is expected that the AIP ID # would be reserved and custodied by the Foundation’s admin team. The winner of the competition would be eligible to redeem the designated grant award and ID # after following the Foundation’s standard KYC process. The admin team will ensure that a topic is created to reflect AIP-420 and the winning proposal.

2. As per the ApeCoin General Guidelines, “proposals will not be put up for vote if they involve illegal activity, hate speech, pornographic material, or are at odds with the mission or values of the APE Foundation.” Can you ensure that the contestants would adhere to these guidelines?
From the proposal team’s perspective, this would not be a problem and none of the non-compliant concepts which are outlined in the question are present in this proposal.

3. Please describe the process by which contestants would submit their proposals and how the winner would be selected.
This is TBD, as stated in the AIP, but initial thoughts are to follow similar practices as the most recent Thank Ape moonshot competition. Setting up a Prop House is all handled on-chain now too, so expectation of minimal friction/expense. It will be required for the submissions to include relevant details to supplement the expected AIP Draft Template format.

4. This proposal outlines 15,000 ApeCoin for any expenses and a grant for the winning proposal of no more than 420,000 ApeCoin. Would the total request for this proposal be 435,000 ApeCoin?
The total request is 420,000 ApeCoin.

5. “The proposal team would be responsible for project management and use no more than 15,000 ApeCoin for any expenses.” In the event that expenses are incurred, how does the team plan to take custody of this expense funding?
A community held multi-sig can be established, if there are expenses, same as with the Thank Ape structure. Certain service providers who provide service related to executing the proposal may be willing to KYC directly with the Foundation as well, in order to receive grant funds designated by the AIP for the services.

6. This proposal would result in “a competition where the winner is awarded AIP ID #420 and an ApeCoin grant.”
a.) Does this competition involve the contestants proposing AIP Ideas, to later be submitted and ultimately awarded AIP-420 upon meeting approved milestones?
Hosting of the competition would happen outside of the formal AIP process. The winner would receive the rights to claim the grant and the right to claim AIP-420.

b.) Would the awarding of AIP ID #420 to the competition winner necessarily require the winner to then submit a proposal using that AIP?
No.

c.) If a subsequent proposal is not required, and the AIP ID #420 awarded is purely ceremonial, would the author then have the opportunity to submit an AIP to later claim that ID# at some point in the future?
It will be required for the initial contest submissions to include the relevant details necessary to supplement the expected AIP Draft Template format.

7. Would your expectation be to retain complete ownership of content produced from this proposal?
It may be best for the team to retain ownership of the content. It is not necessary.

8. Do you provide consent to apply updates to the relevant areas of your proposal based on your responses to the questions above?
Yes

9. Do you provide consent to share these questions with the community in this forum?
Yes

This proposal is live for Snapshot vote at Snapshot. The voting period closes 13 days from now at 9PM EST.

The AIP implementation is administered by the Ape Foundation. Implementation may be immaterially or materially altered to optimize for security, usability, to protect APE holders, and otherwise to effect the intent of the AIP. Any material deviations from an AIP, as initially approved, will be disclosed to the APE holder community.

I personally feel it’s a great idea to reserve that but it’s a little splashing towards excess overhead costs, don’t know if anyone gets me
