Looking for feedback - Fortnite islands based on Yuga IP (swamp, otherside, etc)

Proposal Name: APE Islands: Fortnite User-Generated Content using Yuga IP

Proposal Category: Gaming and Finance

Abstract:
This proposal seeks to establish four unique User-Generated Content (UGC) islands in Fortnite, leveraging the APE intellectual property (APE IP) to engage the gaming community and drive revenue. The proceeds generated from these islands will be utilized to conduct a systematic buyback of $APE Coins, thereby enhancing the token’s scarcity and value.

Author Description:
As a passionate gamer and blockchain enthusiast, I have a profound understanding of both the gaming and cryptocurrency worlds. I believe that the fusion of these domains through innovative projects can significantly benefit the APE Community and gaming enthusiasts alike.

Motivation:
The motivation behind this proposal is twofold. Firstly, by creating exciting and interactive UEFN (Unique APE IP Fortnite) islands under the APE brand, we can expand our community’s reach and attract new participants to the APE ecosystem.Secondly, we can test gaming ideas cheaply, start building interest in Yuga assets for actual gamers, and build out assets that could then be put into the “Fab” store for others to continue building interest around our IP

Rationale:
The proposal aligns perfectly with the APE Community’s mission to explore innovative ways to integrate blockchain technology into various sectors, including gaming. By introducing APE-branded islands in Fortnite, we demonstrate our commitment to reaching out to a broader audience and showcasing the utility of $APE Coin in the gaming space.

Benefit to ApeCoin Ecosystem:
The creation of APE-branded UEFN (Unique APE IP Fortnite) islands will offer several benefits to the ApeCoin Ecosystem:

  1. Expanded Reach: By tapping into the vast Fortnite player base, we can introduce APE to new gamers and potential cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
  2. Increased Token Utility: The buyback mechanism will provide a tangible use case for $APE Coin, fostering its adoption and utility within the APE Community.
  3. Positive Impact on Value: The systematic buyback of $APE Coins using generated revenue has the potential to reduce token supply, potentially contributing to a positive impact on its value over time.

Specifications:
The four UEFN islands will be designed to engage players and showcase the essence of the APE brand. Each island will feature unique challenges, hidden treasures, and lore, creating an immersive experience for players.

Steps to Implement:

  1. Concept Design: Collaborate with professional game designers to create a captivating concept for each UEFN island, incorporating elements of the APE IP.
  2. Development: Employ experienced developers to bring the concepts to life in the Fortnite game environment, ensuring seamless integration and user-friendliness.
  3. Testing: Conduct rigorous testing to identify and address any issues or bugs, ensuring a high-quality and enjoyable experience for players.
  4. Deployment: Launch the APE-branded UEFN islands in Fortnite, actively promoting their availability within the gaming community.
  5. Revenue Allocation: Utilize the generated revenue from island activities, such as in-game purchases or event participation, to conduct regular buybacks of $APE Coins on designated cryptocurrency exchanges.

Timeline:

  • Concept Design: 3 weeks
  • Development: 6 weeks
  • Testing: 2 weeks
  • Deployment: 1 week
  • Revenue Allocation & Buyback: Ongoing
  • per island set into 4 island stages dividing the money into 4 equal parts and delivering based on execution.

Overall Cost:
The total cost for implementing the APE-branded UEFN islands is $200,000. This includes concept design, development, testing, deployment expenses, and an initial budget for buyback operations. The money will be divided into 4 separate portions of $50,000 with each island getting their own payment after successful deployment.

So, $200K for 12 weeks (3 months) @ approx $65K per month!? Can you please explain the breakdown of these costs? For one thing, it’s exceptionally high - even for a AA studio.

Also:

  • the DAO isn’t setup to receive revenue

  • the scarcity of the $APE token isn’t the goal of the DAO

  • building a UEFN powered island isn’t going to suddenly attract gamers to APE. Currently there are many branded IP content in Fortnite which get little to no exposure. So, a LOT of marketing is needed. It’s no longer enough to just throw something up and hope it sticks. And it’s not easy to go viral anymore. So, what are your marketing and engagement plans?

  • Yuga already released two games with exceptional marketing; and they both failed to move the needle in terms of Ape community growth, adoption, and token value. What makes your idea different, and why do you believe that it will succeed?

Those are my questions for now.

Hi,

The cost seems a little spicy for UGC. Would love to understand a bit more if you don’t mind?

Do you have details on the team composition (are they doxxed, have they shipped UGC before, etc.) and how this UGC would stand out relative to other offerings in Fortnite?

Best,

Simon

Yes this is true which is why i though of my mechanic for returning value to DAO holders. Buy/burn mechanisms are well understood in crypto for making price go up. Do you have better idea of how to return value to the DAO?

  • the scarcity of the $APE token isn’t the goal of the DAO
  • I believe most DAO members are aligned with the price of $ape going up but am open to other uses of revenue that help the DAO become self sustaining.

    1. BAYC and NFTs in general have a poor reputation amongst the general public. I believe by creating fun experiences with the IP wherein they don’t have to buy anything, interact with any crypto and just have fun we can turn around the perception of NFTs, crypto in general and Yuga/BAYC in particular.

  1. this game will not be token gated in any way. It will be open to a large audience of gamers first. One can consider it like an advertising project as it shows Yuga IP in ways not seen before. Yuga’s other game experiences can be marred by token price action and ruin the fun aspects.

@KONOP Thanks for the responses.

And all of the above require marketing. If you build it, they won’t come if they don’t know about it.

Yes - that’s an advertising project. And an expensive (see below) one at that - without no marketing spend to even make people aware of this project.

Could please respond to this now, please? ty

This is a great initiative for sure! Thank you for putting this up my dude.
Let me know if we as a DAO can help internally as well.
Good luck!

Hi perhaps I will make it clearer. The idea is 4 islands each $50,000 and each taking 3 months for a time period of 1 year. Perhaps it would be better to reduce the scope of this project to just 1 island? The problem with that is that is it is only one chance to succeed sometimes games can be hit and miss and 4 islands give a better chance of overall success. To break down the costs of each island I expect to contract out art assets and require 30 high fidelity assets per level each costing around $1000 to contractors. Around 15,000 for development costs and $5000 for advertising budget. I would also expect the ape community to do a lot of community advertising for the level. The idea is to make it community powered. There are enough gamers in the community from Dez Bryant to Orangie I believe to make it be able to get to the top page of Fortnite fairly organically.

Thanks for the clarity.

I don’t think that you should reduce the number of islands just because you’re concerned about success. So, I suggested leaving that as-is.

I think that if you use the money wisely, plan it out carefully, and pick trustworthy and talented contractors who aren’t going to rug you, then you can end up building something that’s ApeCoin branded, is there and accessible to all.

So, I don’t think that you should look at this as a “success or failure” issue like you would a normal game. You’re building an experience. Do a the best job, and whether or not people go there, at least you did it. Then, you can use that in the future as a content creation resume builder. In other words, the grant allows you give it your best shot. Do that.

Just some advice from an old geezer who has been down this road before.

ps. Have you see the Meebits in Portals?

Hi Simon thanks for the feedback! What do you think is a more reasonable budget? I was going to use contractors to build out assets at around $1000 a piece and 20-30 new items for each island. As well as dev work for the 3 months per island and some marketing budget (around 5k). Part of what would stand out in the Fortnite environment is the branding and hope the community would come together and support to get enough players to make it onto the front page. I also plan on creating a great gaming experience for players, not just an “experience” as for example, the Nike Airtopia was. It had low replayability whereas I’m going to create more replayable experiences with a metaverse twist. For example a “king of the hill” type experience where you battle in the swamp for control of the clubhouse.

I think rather than thinking in terms of cost per piece, I would look to partner up with a studio that will build you the islands at a set price. There are specialist studios out there that have been building Roblox experiences for some time and I would expect some of these are now building Fortnite experiences too (especially as brands become interested in the space). Gamefam is an example that springs to mind but I would reach out to them and ask around.

I’m not too deep into the Fortnite scene so can’t advise on promo but I would at the very least think about the Ape/Yuga influencers who might be able to help make it a story by bringing large numbers of concurrents together.
