Hey, I just want to chime in tonight and thank everyone. Furious hey thank you, i do like to hear all sides! I think there a lot of people who generate value for the ape ecosystem everyday. Having nashs input or adams or matts on any proposal is really important. Even if they dont like the proposal at all.
Again with this proposal, id like to simply have horizen launch a claim for around 2.1m Apecoin to ~200 active forum participants. Often they have written self-less proposals or requested grants, and I think theyāre the perfect demographic and its a great use case for apecoin & we will see great results.
This will only work once. Itāll get a lot of good attention across web3. Especially if we can aim to keep the grifter narrative down, itll generate a lot of interest in the whole topic of a DAO. Trending. I expect this will bring a lot of eyes and positive traffic, and this is the type of thing that inspires future DAOs.
I think that the number of awards should be at least two times less. And we need to distribute rewards to everyone who has reached level 2, there are only 219 participants. Itās just that some of them were an hour late from the snapshot, they deserved no less airdrop) For example, newcomers can be given 1000Ape, and old participants more. One of the airdrop conditions may be blocking half of the coins without the possibility of withdrawal for a certain period.
Your topic will be automatically closing in less than 24 hours. Are you content with the feedback received, or do you wish to extend community discussion for a further 7 days?
If we do not hear from you within 48 hours after your topic closes, your topic will be moved straight to the AIP Draft process.
Very interesting proposal idea Sword, glad to see you again! Iām curious how the community would react to something like this. Overall wish you the best of luck!
I totally agree that all feedback is valid regardless of activity; feedback is an opinion and is not required to be āqualifiedā.
I think the tl;dr here is that most āactiveā members see the work other āactiveā members have and do put in; less active member like yourself can have no clue about this and therefore for me in this instance makes the comment āunqualifiedā, but nevertheless itās valid and valued always ofc.
So now the question for me isnāt whether this AIP idea will pass this time round (tbf only someone with almost no understanding of how the DAO works would believe this can pass as it is) but when and in what end-form will it pass.
I think most people here agree that there is appetite and consensus to reward the most active members since the start of the DAO and that Thank Ape rewards are not adequate in this situation.
Two points I would like to highlight:
This is a claim; if you qualify yet feel undeserving of the reward you can ignore it and the money will be left in the DAO.
The percentage this āone-offā payment is of total treasury funds when fully unlocked is approximately - 0.0425% - tl;dr it is less than half a percent.
One final thought for consideration - if we were to cut SPECIAL COUNCIL salaries by 50%, bringing them down to $125,000 a year (inline with other DAO salaries), we could off-set this AIP idea of a one-off payment, over the coming years. What this means is there will be no added impact on the DAO treasury whatsoever, we will have simply saved the costs from āother departmentsā and then redistributed these āsurplusā monies āearmarkedā for just 5 members to a well-deserving 200+ members.
Tl;dr there are many ways I see to make this work and pass eventually; cutting absurd and obscene SC salaries is just one way to get this over the line imo.
Thank you all for the input. I have been a longtime contributor, with the highest stats and best knowledge of voter sentiment. I have tracked the votes week after week, even was part of the Thank Ape initiative as it went through the long delayed AIP process last fall to eventually pass.
Thank Ape will likely need reevaluation and reorganization through the Ape Assembly, as itās first two seasons have been through delays and have questionable contribution types. By moving away from the board structure originally put in place, we can have more direct input to Thank Ape.
Having said that, the primary goal of these forums is to help prepare proposals to be presented to the DAO. I have seen sentiments like āthe whales are stopping everything,ā which may be an inaccurate interpretation of general voting results. Proposals do not always resonate with the DAO!
I am confident that as voters assess this thread, now estimated to take 30 minutes to read, that a fair case has been made as to why this idea is valid and deserves to go before the DAO for greater discussion and implementation. There will be very little to no changes made to this draft.
I also do not mind paying for the best the industry has to offer - but we are simply not seeing that, what we are seeing is the most prominent web3 personalities getting elected and thatās unfortunately how it will remain. Actually it is a lot worse, as what we will see is frens electing frens and repaying favors for past years voting etc etc
If I saw the best qualified members being elected then I would agree not to be so severe in the salary reduction, or if I saw us basically head-hunting the best candidates or drawing them in some how, but the truth is we are not, and bc of this I think we should aggressively attack SC salaries until we put into place procedures to help achieve what you and I both want. (NB: I am not saying the current SC are not capable of fulfilling their duties; what I mean is this is a) not rocket science they are doing and b) they were not elected on the basis of their qualifications or past industry achievements.)
Great stuff. I think we do align and agree on a lot of points, and I think the tl;dr here is we have a long way to go and we are very early.
I loved , exceptional, by incentivizing engagement and contribution, this airdrop aims to foster a sense of belonging and motivate continued participation, ultimately contributing to the growth and success of Apecoin.
Gm @0xSword
What a thought provoking topic!! I wonder if this can be an UBI project for apecoin contributors/creators/builders. For example, users need to maintain the required status during a 60-day span to receive monthly airdrop capped at 10k $ape.
There are many reasons why I donāt think this is a good idea, mainly because Iām not a fan of incentivizing participation or engagement with arbitrary rewards (see Blur).
I realize that this is subjective, so instead of going down that road I figured out what this proposal means using objective criteria ā the actual numbers.
I looked up the time spent reading for 191 of the TL2 DAO contributors that would qualify under your plan. It seemed like a reasonable metric of participation in this case (assuming itās not being gamed and people donāt have multiple profiles).
48 contributors spent 3 hours or less on the forum ā making their hourly compensation $10,000 per hour
170 contributors spent less than 24 hours reading ā weād be rewarding these people $30,000 for three 8-hour work days
The effect of a flat-rate reward here actually disincentivizes participation (see next bullet)
The effective compensation for those that spent the most time (192 hours) reading is $156 per hour while the people that spent the least time (1 hour) reading get rewarded $30,000 per hour for their time

I see⦠Itās a good engagement technique, where the others will see our DAO as a very positive one, the power it has, and will have in the future! Seems nice to me, but, as discussed here before, I think 10k each is a little bit to much⦠People need to take iniciative to do things, not only for themselfs, but for the community too!
Hey thanks @badteeth and community for entertaining the idea of an Airdrop/Claim for Forum contributors. Looking at the contributor data is interesting. Most all of the forum contributors who spent time sharing ideas, going through the long process, or participating, were not here for an hourly wage!
As this thread comes to a close, Iām confident that the above proposal can move through the process relatively quickly into snapshot phase. For the next day or two, Iāll review as much feedback as possible. A common recurrence is equation of APE to USD. If 1 ETH = 1 ETH, then 1 APE = 1 APE.
These we will be fun conversations going into elections and then ape assembly after that! I think we can send this and get it approved by the voters. Itāll help almost all of the active forum members from the start, as an early participation reward. They showed up and came with their ideas for APE.
I asked Vulkan for this data as soon as this thread popped up, but he couldnāt find immediately if the site/api provided it. If you pulled it manually for each user, MAJOR props to you, BT haha
