AIP-305: Establishing Special Council's Accountability Practices

Thanks for the feedback SmartAPE. Yeah maybe Daily is too much for the role, and might adjust to only weekly.

Hey @adventurousape thanks for the feedback! Yes maybe daily is too much in regards to the position and role. A weekly or bi-weekly might be perfect instead compared to the monthly.

I would also ideally wait for the AIP-282 to come out with an answer but the goal is simple, a weekly-bi-weekly report that documents their execution/actions and problems they encounter while taking into consideration NDA’s to not talk about things they are not allowed to share.

We might not need all the micro details, but things like how many AIPs has the member reviewed. Has he ecountered problems that would compromise the DAO? What solutions might come in mind to the member after overseeing “X” AIPs to bring the DAO one step closer to success?

As Bored Ape G said, we’re lucky at the moment that we have great candidates currently in the Special Council that care about ApeCoin and it’s success. But what about the future? If we have a weekly or bi-weekly oversee of what’s up with the members we might know better how to react if problems arise.

hey @justzb thanks for the feedback! I agree, daily reports might be too much for the role. Weekly-bi-weekly are best suited!

I work at a major tech company that makes billions in profit each year. We do something like this quarterly. We trust our talent because we know that micromanagement loses top talent.

Hey @DGT! Glad to see you join in the conversation. These reports would for sure help us understand if the pay is fair or not, so that we have an idea of what is being done/accomplished/executed on. The feeling atm is that Daily reports might be too much of a hussle and maybe we should just propose weekly reports. What’s your thoguhts?

Micro-managing with Daily might be too much for sure. But Weekly or Bi-Weekly I think it’s fair. Elon Musk does it with Twitter. He asks a Weekly report from his employees every week. Don’t wanna compare the DAO to Twitter but I do want the DAO to be in the best position to succeed.

I’m not sure you want to use Twitter as an example. Twitter under Musk is one of the most swift downfalls of a major technology company in history. Every meaningful metric is down, with them hemorrhaging users and advertiser revenue.

Musk’s reputation is that of an intense micromanager that runs employees into the ground.

I agree that transparency is good, but let’s be thoughtful about how we implement changes and listen to those who have direct experience managing and growing companies.

Agree to disagree then. Agreed that daily reports might be too much for the role but a weekly-bi-weekly I believe is fair. In the end the community will decide and I’ll adjust with the feedback received.

Yep, the community can decide. I appreciate the work you’ve put into this.

Hi all

New member here and enjoying this discussion @Moonlyght , my thoughts - It’s a pattern that appears in the coordination and management of all sorts of entities and structures and is not unique to DAOs, especially as organisations evolve and scale with a need for more coordination and focus, usually with more experienced and specialist roles being created and the accountability that goes with them along with ‘why are they needed etc…’ which is valid.

There is a difference between activity and productivity so given that the SC are in theory directed to ‘administer DAO proposals and aligning with the community vision’, a question arises for me as to what does that actually mean and how does the SC role align with this which I guess AIP-282 is a part of. If this is akin to a board of directors then stewardship of long term objectives and activities that reconcile with this are key to measure and report on (whether these are governance, operational, strategic, financial or otherwise), maybe through OKRs and other similar metrics. The challenge is that granular reporting daily/weekly doesn’t always align with these types of roles, but certainly monthly & quarterly feels right and linked with overall progress on long term objectives.

Your talent is known and proven to be talented; hired based on experience, competency and merit. That’s not how we hire here.

Your talent can be fired instantly, sued for recourse, and has their professional reputation at stake. That isn’t true here.

There’s zero uncertainty about wtf it is your talent is even supposed to do, or does do. Unlike here.

Your talent isn’t perceived by many to be massively overpaid.

Your talent can’t crash the entire enterprise.

Thank you so much matt!

hey @dape welcome to the forum and glad you could join the conversation! I appreciate the feedback. Yes AIP-282 will probably be very helpful in shaping this AIP to some extent. Monthly/quarterly sound good but not enough imo, on the other hand daily might be too much for this kind of role/position.

Exactly. That’s how I feel too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts @br00no

@dape

I absolutely love that you - as a new user - posted this because some of us having been saying all along that the way things are it’s difficult for any new member to actual know - let alone understand - what’s going on around here.

For one thing, your query is why something like this from @badteeth actually exists.

And then there’s this
