Snapshot allows shielded voting. This means during the voting period users choices and results are kept private until the vote concludes. We should implement this approach for all elections and voting defined under clarification of scope.
BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:
Current live vote results may influence participants and voters. By shielding the vote we remove this factor.
STEPS TO IMPLEMENT:
Apply shielding option on snapshot for all elections and voting defined under clarification of scope.
OVERALL COST:
ZERO.
CLARIFICATION OF SCOPE:
This change covers all elections and the entire election process.
This change covers all selections (which may or may not be the result of an RFP), and the entire selection process.
This change will not apply to AIP voting.
(This change includes all elections and selections and their related prior processes where applicable voting occurs. This change excludes all AIP voting.)
Specifically only for elections. As we await wider voting changes. If/once they are implemented & with the results of the temp check taken into account, a case will potentially be made via a separate AIP to roll this out to all voting.
Tl;dr - Right now we need to see live results for normal AIPs until trust returns via wider reform.
They see the live results, theyāre not doing that well, and they simply give up. They have given up the fight before itās even begun and the remainder of the process becomes torturous.
VOTERS
They see the live results, and see voting for candidates that are not doing so great as a āwasted voteā, (I have personally heard this term so many times). Knowing some are voting for the perceived āwinnersā so they can later cash in on that support disgusts me and is unbecoming of a DAO member imo.
Tl;dr - We will restore hope and confidence to candidates who would once have only known despair & we will start the arduous task of eradicating self-serving motivations of some voters.
Since I donāt fully understand how this works, would this also allow us to hide the ratios of how people have voted until the vote concludes? I think that would be a big win, especially for roles like SC, which can often feel like a popularity contest. Iām sure there would be an on-chain way to sleuth around it, but just doing this at a basic UI level would be great IMO.
It is worth noting this is very soon to when we start voting on the upcoming elections and though I donāt have an influence on when AIPs go to vote, the timeline for this upcoming election would be very tight.
Thanks. I believe itās super important to include all of these past attempts and I really appreciate both yours and BB attention to the history of the DAO. We need to acknowledge and highlight those who came before us.
I certainly feel this strengthens our position (AIP) - as many have seen this as a viable option and that it has great benefits - although I think for AIPs to adopt shielded voting is a bridge too far right now.
Br00no and I will be working on similar ideas and hope this AIP inspires many more to attempt to tackle the conundrum, known as voting.
Having considered this, view is weād keep commenting open for several weeks alongside the upcoming election cycle to capitalise as much as possible - input for and against on the AIP here in the forum. (Looking mainly for points of concern or pushback - helps us more tbh.)
The hope is members will be better able to visualise and evaluate the ideaās impacts in real time.
Final aim would be to see this go up to vote in July whilst elections are still fresh in peopleās minds.
NB: Section on reporting expectations has been removed as the community commenting period will be considerably longer than first anticipated (from 7 days to potentially 28 days plus).
The community feedback period for your proposal would be ending in less than 24 hours.
If youāre content with the feedback received, your next steps are to finalize your proposal using the AIP Draft Template.
A moderator will reach out to the author to finalize the AIP Draft. Upon receipt of the final Draft, we will review and provide instructions on the next steps.
Are you ready to proceed to the next phase or do you wish to extend community discussion for another 7 days?
