AIP-227: Nothersight - Public goods for building DAOs based on islands in the Otherside

Proposal Name

Nothersight - Public goods for building DAOs based on islands in the Otherside

Proposal Category

Ecosystem Fund Allocation

Abstract

This proposal presents a platform powered by ApeCoin that empowers community members on Otherdeed islands to form and manage as DAOs. The main feature of the platform is a set of tools that enable community members to easily build, connect, and interact with one another as they manage their islands together.

Through the platform, community members can find statistics and information on their desired islands. The platform also serves as a marketplace/aggregator that facilitates the process of finding and becoming a part of an island with other community members who share the same interests and goals.

Overall, the platform’s primary focus is on providing tools for DAOs, with the marketplace/aggregator feature serving as a secondary aspect that supports the formation and management of island communities.

Motivation

We were on the hunt for ways to bring value to the Yuga ecosystem, and that’s when we stumbled upon the untapped potential of Otherdeed’s diverse types of land, including islands.

Why Islands?

We believe that builders are together stronger, however, smaller robust groups of builders can move faster and get things done quicker. Thus, organizing these groups based on islands would be a logical step for building on the otherside.

Unfortunately, there were no existing tools to effectively manage this information. This gap in the market inspired us to create ‘Nothersight.’

Nothersight is mainly a platform for managing islands in the form of DAOs, however, we also plan to facilitate our users with a marketplace that effectively displays the information and statistics focused on the island aspects of the Otherside. With our innovative technology, we visualize and organize these detached pieces of land, offering valuable insights and opportunities.

Imagine an island full of Artists as a union on the Otherside. This concept is similar to a homeowner association, where members collaborate and make agreements to work towards a common goal. By providing a space for island-based sub-communities and/or DAOs, we aim to increase engagement and foster a thriving community within the Otherside space.

We are passionate about the future of the Otherside and how it will revolutionize social interaction as a premium decentralized metaverse platform. Our excitement for this new era drives us to constantly push the boundaries of what’s possible with Nothersight.

About the author

I’m Ayvee (Twitter), Fullstack Dev/UXUI. I’ve been a blockchain / full-stack developer since January 2022. I’ve built things, including blockchain applications using Golang in a cosmos-based chain, solidity smart contracts, serverless API backends, frontends, and UXUI designs for web-based applications. However, what has caught my interest the most within this broad crypto space is the NFT space. I went down the rabbit hole not too long after starting my job as a developer and have since then, gone deeper and deeper into the space, more specifically the Otherside & the Yuga ecosystem.

I co-founded Nudi Labs alongside Freeed & Jamie Chow where we focus on building tools for a better web3. We have helped a couple of projects with developing smart contracts, frontends, and backends, as well as building our own products. After honing our skills in the traditional 9-5 work environment for over a year together, we have decided to fully commit to our shared passion for building on the Yuga Ecosystem, which inspires and motivates us every day.

About my team at Nudi Labs

Our team is made up of the hardest-working and most creative individuals I have had the pleasure of collaborating with.

@jamiech0w (Twitter), Strategy/Marketing, a passionate enthusiast in the world of blockchain and NFTs. It all started when he conducted research for their university thesis in late 2018, and since then, his love for NFTs has grown immensely. After graduating in 2020, Jamie entered the marketing field, where he honed their skills in data utilization, campaign management, online/offline event hosting, and brand-building content creation with web 2-2.5 companies. In 2022, Jamie delved deeper into the web3 space by organizing airdrop campaigns and community growth initiatives for various projects, gaining a native understanding of the field. He’s Nudi Labs’ spontaneous writer.

@freeed (Twitter), Fullstack Dev/Solidity, became a part of the blockchain ecosystem in 2019 and had since been exploring and learning about its various aspects. However, due to the pandemic in 2020, Freeed missed out on several opportunities and events that could have further enriched their experience. In 2021, Freeed was able to jumpstart their journey at a web 2.5 company as a full-stack developer, where they specialized in serverless architecture system design, smart contract development using solidity and wasm, and frontend development using Typescript and Javascript frameworks. His passion for technology and skills only grew stronger in 2022 and turned Freeed into a degen in the world of blockchain.

Rationale

Nothersight aligns with the APE Community’s mission and guiding values by providing valuable infrastructure and opportunities for all Otherside users. We believe that our goal of fostering increased engagement within the Otherside space aligns with the community’s mission of curating activities and promoting growth in the space. The platform and its ability to provide valuable insights further align with the community’s guiding values of creating a dynamic and supportive environment for all members.

Thanks @ayvee for this thoughtful write-up. When you say:

“Nothersight is a platform and marketplace that effectively empowers users and landholders to manage their Otherdeeds, specifically their islands”…

… are you referring exclusively to “islands?” As an Otherdeeds “mainland” holder, would lands not considered islands be effectively excluded from the marketplace/aggregator?

Thanks for the reply @CryptoLogically, we are referring to the island aspect part of the deeds. However, in our definition, all otherdeeds are part of one island or another. They vary in size and some are way bigger than others (which could look like it’s mainland but we still count that chunk of deeds as its own island).

We asked the mods to edit the draft:

Updated the Abstract and Motivation parts to highlight the platform as a tool for managing DAOs rather than a marketplace since the marketplace is only there to facilitate the purchase of island-specific otherdeeds.

Below is a mock-up for our map we’ve been working on that will help visualize and navigate the islands of the otherside.

besides going through the otherside map and searching for “islands”, is there an easy place to actually filter for this?

Thanks for the question @capetaintrippy.

The main idea of the map will be to navigate these islands with the help of different filters.

These filters will include social filters where you would be able to see different aspects such as the total number of Twitter followers an island has, the total reach an island has, and the average number of followers of the members of an island.

Or guild filters that could show the territory of different guilds (the island will show as the territory of the guild with the most % on that island).

Or with the Forj map, you will be able to see where the concentration of builders are located and buy a land part of the most concentrated island.

Since all the islands are nameable you will also be able to search for the islands with their names if you happen to have a friend that has said something like “we’re building something on Tortuga and you should definitely be a part of it!”

Of course, all islands won’t be established DAOs right away. Setting up DAOs will take time. But once a couple of DAOs based on islands are set up you will also be able to filter out the islands with active DAOs.

There are so many filters that could be useful that we will constantly add as we build out features for the platform.

A rough sketch of the map is available in my above reply

Questions (Click to expand)
  1. Are there any potential legal risks associated with the activities of this AIP?

No. There are only logos that will be used with permission.

  1. What are the Objective and Key Results which have been identified for your project?

Our OKRs for the first quarter after launch includes

  • 2 established working DAOs

  • 200 Monthly Active Users

  1. Please elaborate on the team’s expectations for the future.

Our vision for the project is to facilitate and help push the community to form DAOs to build and collaborate as the Otherside is gaining traction. With the release of the ODK, we see people building together on their island providing value for the ecosystem. To facilitate these DAOs, our platform will:

1. Have an aggregator (which will later transform into a marketplace) to display insight into these sub-collections (islands) with data on:

  1. Island trading volume

  2. Island trading activity

  3. Island floor price

2. Have a map that will help navigate the islands and give insights through mapping:

  1. Social aspects including data on how influential each island is based on data from Twitter such as following and global reach.

  2. Concentration of resources across islands

  3. Total ApeCoin that the members of each island hold

  4. Otherside Guilds territorial map

  1. Is the Ape Foundation expected to engage in any of the steps of the AIP implementation? If so, please specify the step and elaborate how it is expected to work.

Retweeting a tweet or two when we are pushing our go-to-market strategy.

  1. Have you or your team identified any additional financial, operational, or brand risks associated with this AIP?

N/A

  1. Since your app would require token holders to connect wallets, what are the plans for security audits of the app?

At our current stage there will be no contract interaction as we will only provide an aggregator at first which will redirect the users to trusted marketplaces to complete the purchase. We will implement Warm Wallet to let the users feel more secure when connecting their wallet to our site. The following features would require users to sign:

  1. Updating their Otherdeed profile on the platform to configure things such as:

  2. Guild

  3. Desired island name (The Island will be named after the most chosen name by owners of otherdeeds on that island)

  1. Do you have any estimated costs for users to use the platform’s features, or any premium features ?

At the moment there are no costs as we aim for this to be a freemium tool for the community to connect and build together.

  1. Your proposal states that Nothersight would be “mainly a platform for managing islands in the form of DAOs”, can you elaborate on the implications and details of this statement ?

Otherside is formed in a way where Otherdeeds are grouped together in clusters of lands in which we call islands. We have found these islands to be a logical way of forming groups of builders to build together based on their geographical location thus we will build this tool to help facilitate forming and managing these DAOs for people on the Otherside. As Otherside will ultimately let people build on the lands, naturally people located close to each other will collaborate. Our platform will basically:

  1. Help people find Otherdeeds that are part of a desired island that they want to join.

  2. Let users set a desired name for their island. The most set name for each island will be the one displayed on the platform.

  3. Ultimately create a marketplace where people will be able to:

  4. Sweep Otherdeeds on a specific island.

  5. Bulk buy whole islands that have eg. 4 Otherdeeds that are on sale at the same time to acquire a private island containing 4 Otherdeeds.

  6. Get insight such as volume, activity, floor price, and amount of Otherdeeds for each island on the Otherside.

  7. A map of the Otherside to visualize the islands and let the users navigate to each respective island’s marketplace page to buy/sell Otherdeeds for that island.

  • Who would be facilitating governance of these “islands”?
  1. Our team will help establish the governance tools.

  2. Each DAO would need a council to lead the island in the right direction as well as setup a communication channel for the DAO to communicate before voting.

  • How?
  1. We will use snapshot.org for each of the islands as they form as DAOs.

  2. With us and the council as admins

  • Who would be participating in the governance?
  1. Users of the specific island will be able to participate in the DAO.
  • How?
  1. By voting through snapshot.org
  1. The DAO voted to approve a community Marketplace via [AIP-98] (https://forum.apecoin.com/t/aip-98-a-community-first-apecoin-dao-marketplace-proposal/8079)), how would the marketplace you’ve outlined in your proposal differ?

Our marketplace will aggregate the deeds with island data that are not available from the metadata of the Otherdeeds since this data has been gathered by our team (A good example would be how https://ens.vision/ aggregates ens sub-collections like 10k Club). The data includes:

  1. Island size (Count of Otherdeeds in the cluster)

  2. Island ID (Which island the Otherdeed is part of)

  1. Do you provide consent to share these questions with the community in this forum?

Yes we do give consent to share this with the community.
