PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION:
“Skin in the Game” will be an innovative GameFi fitness app (Mobile and Desktop) and Blockchain protocol that bridges the world of sports, fitness and blockchain technology by leveraging wearable data to track physical and fitness activities, create attestations on the blockchain of the activities and enables the creation of personal or group competitions in a gamified environment.
“Skin in the Game” capitalizes on the trend of people living a healthy lifestyle, every day we spend more time exercising, whether in a gym, running, walking, doing yoga, etc. and the increasing use of fitness wearables, such as smartwatches, which track metrics like calories burned, distance covered, steps, sleep time, daily activities, groups, etc.
People often fail in their training goals due to lack of motivation, real stakes and accountability. “Skin in the Game” will provide a blockchain infrastructure for stake-based accountability enabling any individual to create and manage challenges where participants will have real financial stakes in their success.
Our key features:
- Stake Based challenges: Participants lock Apecoin as stake.
- Incentives: Rewards for successful participants.
- Verification: Onchain resolution and reward distribution
“Skin in the Game” functionality is split into two phases:
- Attestation of fitness activities: In the first phase, users will connect their fitness app (Garmin, Polar, Suunto, Android, etc) to “Skin in the Game”, where their athletic data (e.g., running, swimming, cycling metrics, steps, etc.) will be attested and recorded on the blockchain. This will create a transparent, immutable record of their activities, ensuring trust and verifiability.
- Challenges and Competitions: In the second phase, the app will introduce challenges and competitions.
2.1 Challenges: Users will be able to create their own personalized challenges and invite their club or friends to take a chance, for instance, to run the most kilometers in a week. Participants will pay an entry fee (in ApeCoin), which will be used to cover operational costs and fund the prize pool. At the end of the challenge, prizes will be distributed to the top performers.
2.2 Competitions: Sponsored challenges organized by Skin in the Game.
“Skin in the Game” will take a 30% cut on each challenge which will be used to cover operational costs, the remaining 70% will be used for the prize pool which will be distributed 70% to the first place, 20% to the second place and 10% to the third place. If 2 or more users successfully complete the challenge, the prize will be assigned to whoever completed the challenge first.
For each challenge or competition a smart contract will be created, the smart contract will act as an escrow to hold the funds, once the competition is over and validated the prizes will be disbursed to the winners.
“Skin in the Game” is committed to adhering to industry standards security and audit practices to ensure a safe and secure user experience for all participants. We plan to use WalletConnect as our third party service for the front end experience. We plan to use Hacken as our third party service to audit our Smart Contracts.
BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:
We are at a pivotal moment in the evolution of the ApeCoin ecosystem, and with this AIP, we aim to significantly enhance its value and utility, specifically in social and brand image. Our AIP, “Skin in the Game”, is not just an ambitious project; it’s a strategic endeavor designed to bring multifaceted benefits to our community. Here’s how “Skin in the Game” will positively impact the ApeCoin ecosystem:
- Increased Visibility of ApeChain: By developing the app on ApeChain, using it for smart contracts, attestations and transactions, Skin in the Game will contribute to the adoption and visibility of ApeChain, showcasing its potential as a blockchain platform.
- Increased transaction volume on ApeChain: All fitness activities will be attested onto ApeChain, smart contracts will be used as escrows for all challenges with a significantly increased transactions on ApeChain.
- Social Impact: By promoting a healthy lifestyle through fitness and competition, the app encourages physical activity while integrating blockchain technology.
- Attracting New Users: The project will attract both fitness enthusiasts and tech-savvy users, increasing ApeCoin’s visibility to new audiences.
- Gamification: The app transforms fitness routines into fun and competitive experiences, which enhances engagement within the ecosystem.
- Analytics and Data: The platform will collect valuable data on user activities, profiles, and geographic areas, offering insights into user behavior and preferences.
- Utilization of ApeCoin: As participants will use ApeCoin to pay entry fees for challenges, the app will drive ApeCoin’s usage within a real-world application.
“Skin in the Game” is an opportunity for partnerships with fitness clubs, gyms, brands, and MBA’s which will expand the ApeCoin DAO and the ApeChain brand exposure.
During the ApeFest 2024 the Bored Run Club organized the “Ape Run”. With over 200 registrations and 100 shown for the race, the event was a succes and was supported by different brands such as adidas (official jerseys) and some MBAs (coffe, bagels, snacks) being just a demonstration on how seriously people are taking on living a healthy lifestyle.

The team has identified the following key terms/definitions but due to the nature of this AIP we are well aware that a lot of new terms will be added while we discuss the AIP. If you have any questions please feel free to add them to the comments.
- Attestations: The process of recording a user’s activity on the blockchain as a verifiable entry.
- Strava, Suunto, Garmin & Polar: Fitness platforms with apps to track fitness activities such as running, cycling, swimming, etc. with the use of wearable devices.
- Wearables: Devices such as smartwatches, fitness trackers, heart monitors, etc. that monitor various physical metrics.

The main platforms for “Skin in the Game” will be our Website and a mobile application (iOS and Android).
At the front users will be able to:
- Connect with wallet to create a profile
- Customize profile (profile picture, social networks)
- Create new challenges
- Join existing challenges
- Collect rewards
The backend will be used to:
- Collect physical data from users.
- Create attestation of activities which will be permanently stored on user profiles.
- Display data/records per user.
- Create smart contracts per challenge.
- Disburse rewards to winners of challenges.
- User and Challenges data.
The tech stack required:
- Frontend: Next.js, Reac, .NET, Typscript, SWIFT
- Backend: .NET API, React
- Blockchain: Solidity
Additionally we will require hosting infrastructure for the APPS and Data.
STEPS TO IMPLEMENT:
Our objective is to have a fully functional app by April 2025 which is a tight timeline but doable. To achieve this we would start working immediately after receiving the funds.

After successfully launching we will apply for a second round funding via the Banana Bill to secure at least 1 year of challenges sponsored by Banana Bill, ApeChain, ApeCoin DAO in different sports and activities.
We are not planning to stake ApeCoin from the challenges or competitions, therefore “Skin in the Game” has no plan to use any ApeCoin on DeFi protocols and/or to vote within the ApeCoin DAO. As for the ApeCoin requested for the AIP it will be under custody of the project leader; Carlos Alcocer and stored on a cold wallet.
Each challenge created by users will create a proxy smart contract which will function as an escrow, entry fees will be “stored” on the smart contract. Every time a challenge is completed the prizes will be distributed to the winners via a disbursement function which can only be triggered by the admin. Prizes will be sent on a weekly basis.
Thanks for reading “Skin in the Game” AIP proposal, if you have any question or comments please drop them and ill be very happy to answer.
