@br00no - Nomination 7/2023

@br00no,
My number one question I am asking to all nominees is, in your opinion what is the biggest hurdle we’ve yet to get past in the DAO?

Thank you. Fundamentally it’s having a clear defined purpose. Some believe it’s a “grants DAO”, others “whatever we vote it to be DAO”.

Finally there’s a Mission up for vote that a lot of effort and consultation went into so that’ll be more clear, however we have a variety of initiatives from Working Groups - not all of them well defined in process, costs or scope - to AIPs for large amounts without true transparency, oversight, or audits in plain simple language, available to all token holders, detailing fund flows and red flags for ethical, fiscal, procedural or regulatory risks current and forthcoming.

That’s what my experience makes me best suited to help put into effect, and that’s my primary concern as the DAO’s biggest, most immediate and existentially serious hurdle.

Thank you for the quick and thoughtful response!

Sharing something very different today, and human.

On topic, this was an Ape gathering in the truest sense; members of a (music) community at an event of the “if you know, you know” type though all were welcome. Popular band decides to play an impromptu set and needs a bass player, and there I was so … finding myself qualified & willing, I stepped up. Magic happened and all were pleased.

I’m choosing to see this process the same way, hopefully with the same outcome that I can step up at the right place and time to fill a need, put my skills to good use and people come away smiling.

Vid’s a bit dark but I’m lucky to have the memento. Me in the middle left, ironically wearing blue, a cap, and big grin just like my Ape.

A wish to everyone for a great weekend. Remember to have fun!

That’s awesome, man, looks like a great time. Magic moments that really answer “what is the meaning of life.” Reminds me to go out soon and really let go, I need it.

ps: by “wearing blue” did you mean black just like everyone in the video

Fair point! The rest of them were in a band together, and I think came dressed the same to this party from an event they performed at. I remember the shirt I was wearing, though fair point there’s not much easily seen in the vid.

Seemed a good idea to post something not fussy about transparency processes and such, and how that magic happened seemed a perfect parallel to this DAO endeavor.

Yass, get out and play! Many lost that spirit during COVID, which is why the playful fun and focus on creativity of NFTs came to prominence at exactly the right time. For me at least.

The Grace of the Great Ape shines upon all of us. Remember to have fun!

Whoa… very high on list of things I didn’t expect to see, if only because we’re still working on making $APE great in the first place!

I mean it is great and has already been a tremendous blessing to so many, but it won’t continue to be if we leave it open to bad actors or regulatory, ethical and legal risks.

Proper transparency and oversight protects what we have and what good we can do. That’s what I want to help make happen for the benefit of all token holders.

Thanks for the laugh! Hopefully we are all having fun with this = core value.

It’s always great to see experiences like this that bring people together to create magic moments. I hope that you’ll have more opportunities to step up and put your skills to good use. Have a great week :fire: :fire: :100:

Thanks!

I recorded on the ApeCoin Radio podcast yesterday, which was a really fun hang.

Asked what I thought was important in an SC candidate, I think I failed to mention empathy for those who are introverts and not likely to step onto a stage - real or virtual - or nominate themselves for positions, and for whales too.

Whales make easy targets. They’re human and individuals though we refer to them as a monolithic group. I can understand why some feel they’ve pushed votes to certain results and that there’s risk in too much power in one or a few hands, however I’d argue there’s been cases when that power has prevented potentially serious missteps.

Point being, it’s about balance and representing all reasonable points of view and needs, which I think I did say in my answer.

On SC I will work to bring greater transparency to the DAR process, cooperatively not in a confrontational way, with total respect for things that are best for DAO operations to be kept non-public including a top priority of preserving privacy of applicants’ personal data.

Why is someone w/ regulatory experience in finance AND securities important to have on SC?

Maybe Br00no becoming SC would also make my life a lot less stressful?

All I seem to see lately are possible conflicts of interest, lack of care or thought about the DAO for the long-term, a “cabal” like stranglehold on everything, influence being used to knowingly effect results whilst often using false narratives or lack of context to create confusion and misdirection.

So maybe having Br00no as SC helps gradually restore my faith?

All I know is things have gotta change; if not we will have zero funds left soon within the DAO’s coffers, all having been spent on “paid roles” and AIPs of frens and/or ideas that help themselves and their bags, but do little else for the wider community.

Let’s get more people like Br00no in to give us all confidence surrounding the less glamours side of the DAO and that there’s proper procedures and practices in place always.

Thanks and keep your chin up, Furious fren.

It’ll be a rocky road at times. Bands, sports teams, families and boards of directors may disagree vehemently and even fight outright, but in the end, and when faced with a common goal or threat, they come together as one.

I can only do what I can, and what I’m appointed and enabled to do by fellow members and the grace of the Ape.

I can and will push for greater empathy and inclusion for critics, introverts, and others who aren’t the ones to typically rack up a lot of posts, Spaces, followers, or even much goodwill, but who may care as much as anyone and have valid points and concerns worth considering.

IME those who’ve stepped up and done the most in the DAO so far are thoughtful and sincere. I had a warm welcome and patient onboarding when I showed up. No gatekeeper or authority vibes. Those who helped steer the DAO this far have earned my gratitude and respect. In whatever role, from silent whale to 1-$APE token holder to SC, we are all allies.

Don’t stress!

A rising tide lifts all boats.

You’re very kind @Swickie, and a skilled artist. I appreciate you posting that b/c the concerns and ideas I discussed aren’t very personable.

For those unaware, SC candidates Swickie, Waabam, Zack74eth and I share a @Mocaverse Twitter stage Monday June 12 at noon Eastern. https://twitter.com/mocaversenft/status/1667361533972848640

An honor for me to be in that group, providing a positive energy to power my weekend.

I was asked what the DAO needs most. I answered that my needs as a token holder and the DAO’s needs are totally aligned:

Back to no-fun mode. My recent comments on transparency: AIP-277: Re-evaluating ApeCoin DAO Special Council Salaries Structure - #38 by br00no

Please read this post as if it’s written in a chill, cooperative tone. Not combative or casting aspersions on anyone, because that’s not my intention whatsoever but in print and on hot topics that can easily be lost.

I’m among the first, possibly the first, to raise some of the concerns now being more widely expressed on these topics.

Not clout chasing here, just saying I know what it’s like to find this stuff out by surprise and the hard way. I mentioned as much in my ApeCoin radio interview last week. It’s a big part of why I stepped up to be appointed to SC, not just complain.

I’ve also learned the hard way in my own various IRL endeavors that it’s never as easy as it seems from the outside, especially when dealing with fast-shifting and hostile regulatory environments. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

As an SC candidate, primarily with a platform of transparency, what I will NOT do is comment on specifics as it’d either seem like self-serving, pandering, etc. and that ain’t my vibe. On that, for now, I will abstain, plus it can’t be meaningfully done without much more details that we do not have.

On this I feel compelled to “speak” however:

Not IMO. The Admins act only on direction of the DAO, via Special Council, so it’s SC who does that. Or should, IMO. Admins work for the DAO - for us - not the other way around.

I don’t believe that an actual securities lawyer is even involved anywhere so far, or anyone with SEC regulatory compliance experience.

As for treasury, the word “oversight” appears once on the Foundation’s homepage, and not relating to ethical, regulatory or financial concerns. The word “audit” appears zero times.

When I’ve asked who the Foundation’s auditors are, I received no reply which suggests there is none. In any case, such audits including plain-language ethical and risk assessments should be available to all token holders at all times. My intent is to affect this.

I’d also like to see, or make happen, details of what people do in all paid roles. At least an outline - meetings, minutes. Nothing violating the DAO’s trust, NDAs, or privacy of AIP applicants, etc. of course.

I feel these should’ve been in place since Day 1. I do NOT blame anyone for that, and few seemed to care when I began raising such concerns. Here we are now however, and it’s time to put such things in place not to punish, disrespect or doubt anyone who has been or is in those roles, but to prevent bad actors someday accessing or compromising those roles.

Let’s start with clarity on who is responsible for what however. Let’s not presume, good or bad.

And please let’s not drag the token’s nominal price into this. That just gives regulators easy ammo. Don’t risk wrecking the whole works.

The potential to do good here is epic. Within the DAO in the form of personal development through roles and mentorship, maybe access to health care such as paid-for counseling (my AIP that I do feel strongly about), and legit good works that can be done far beyond the DAO’s token holders or grant recipients.

I still believe this… note the date:
