GWG Stewards: Facilitator Initiative Update

Dear ApeCoin DAO community,

I’m writing on behalf of the Governance Working Group (GWG) Stewards in accordance with AIP-408 Governance Working Group Budget to inform you of a change we are making that will come into effect September 1st, 2024 — when the Discourse Facilitators will no longer be managed by the GWG.

Please note that this will NOT affect any workflows related to AIP processing or the current Facilitator team, it simply means that we have chosen to move away from the oversight and funding of this initiative. Also worth noting that although slightly different, this decision was made based on an awareness of our ever-evolving DAO and the Stewards’ desire to explore new funding mechanisms, with changes like this aimed at providing the community with a clearer understanding of our initiatives when approving GWG budgets, allowing you to vote on certain programs independently rather than all at once in a single proposal.

Yes!

But to be clear, the Facilitators have played, and will continue to play an important function at ApeCoin DAO.

So… another decision that was passed through AIP going back to the same first? iirc before this term Facilitators were chosen by DAO voting, then came under GWG and now going outside their umbrella again all in just one term? o.O
Seriously whats happening? Passed AIPs decisions are being torn down and going back and forth, for example bi weekly voting to every week voting as well ( again under same authors and term )
What is something that we as general community members dont know about these decisions being taken back slowly.

Not the case brother…

All within the GWG scope to make adjustments to our initiatives, and the Facilitator team will be just fine. We also wouldn’t have made the move if there were any risk to the DAOs AIP processing; at any point – any time.

AIP-239: WORKING GROUP GUIDELINES & THE GOVERNANCE WORKING GROUP CHARTER

WORKING GROUP STEWARDS

  • Each Working Group shall be managed by three Stewards, elected to serve within Working Groups for a set period of time (hereafter known as a ‘Term’ or ‘Terms’).
  • Stewards are responsible for supervising the operations of their Working Group.
  • Organizing and approving Initiatives within a Working Group.

GOVERNANCE WORKING GROUP MANDATE & SCOPE

This group is responsible for providing neutral and objective governance oversight and support for the operations of the ApeCoin DAO. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Providing operational support and project management support for the Foundation.
  • Coordinating the team of moderators, administrators, and lead in Discourse.

GOVERNANCE WORKING GROUP INITIATIVES

Discourse Administration

With Discourse being the platform in which our DAO facilitates the governance process, or AIP-1 5, the Governance Working Group would oversee the administration and project management included in facilitating Discourse operations as outlined and budgeted in the Community Discourse Facilitators proposal authored by Waabam (4/5/23) and would continue to:

  • Provide operational support and project management support for the Foundation.

  • Act as the team of moderators and administrators in Discourse.

  • Act as the team of reviewers to prepare reports and any other supporting documentation necessary.

  • Coordinating the team of moderators, administrators, and lead in Discourse.

AIP-240: COMMUNITY DISCOURSE FACILITATORS

ABSTRACT

Come August 2023, the responsibility to choose the Discourse Facilitation team will be assigned to the Governance Working group, provided that the DAO votes to approve the Working Groups structure.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Through this AIP, the DAO will engage 3 Discourse Facilitators for a period of 4 months. The DAO will select two Discourse Facilitators via DAO-wide vote, while Lost.Admin will be seeded as the third Discourse Facilitators, to ensure continuity from the current Discourse Facilitator team. Future contracting of Discourse Facilitators will be performed by the Governance Working Group.

OVERALL COST

  • $80,000 USD ($24,000 per month for 3 months, $8000 for 1 month)

AIP-317: APECOIN DAO GOVERNANCE & OPERATIONS BUDGET

KEY TERMS

  • Initiative: Projects or processes that fall within the scope of a Working Group. This encompasses any activities carried out by individuals for the DAO within the purview of a Working Group, utilizing a budget that has been either approved or designated to or by that specific Working Group. As initiatives, it is the corresponding Working Group’s duty to adjust their scope, or terminate if deemed unsuccessful.

  • Line item on the “Budget Spreadsheet” refers to “ApeCoin DAO Discord & Discourse facilitation”

AIP-408: Q2/Q3 2024 GOVERNANCE WORKING GROUP BUDGET

ONGOING DAILY SUPPORT, AIP PROCESSING & DISCOURSE FACILITATION

  • As exciting as all of our new initiatives are, it is crucial to emphasize that the Governance Working Group will also remain devoted to providing continued AIP processing, Discourse facilitation, Special Council and Working Group election facilitation, community rewards programs, stakeholder engagement, support for other Working Groups, proposal development, and various all of the other additional day-to-day ApeCoin DAO operational needs. In fact, as our scope expands through various initiatives, we’re currently aiming to scale by adding members to the team, enhancing efficiency, and once again, increasing output. Quarterly and budget-end reporting will also be maintained.

STEPS TO IMPLEMENT & TIMELINE

It should also be reinforced that Working Group initiatives may be adjusted, and in some cases terminated, due to unforeseen circumstances or at the Stewards’ discretion within reasonable grounds. Examples of reasons that adjustments might be made related to this particular proposal could include, but are not limited to, team member changes, initiative performance, or technical adaptations necessitated by the transition to ApeChain. Any modifications, along with the rationale and details of funding adjustments, will be communicated on a public ApeCoin DAO, or in this case, an ApeCoin DAO Governance Working Group channel along with rationale.

Thanks for the update @AllCityBAYC!

Have a couple questions. If the Discourse Facilitators are no longer being overseen or funded by the GWG, who will be overseeing them now and how will they be funded? What happens if one needs to be replaced?

Out of our hands now AA, but you have my word that we wouldn’t have made the decision if there were any doubts in our minds that the AIP facilitation process wouldn’t be interrupted.

Maybe not the most intuitive answer but it’s definitely what matters most for the community — which is what matters most to us.

Who’s hands is it in now? The Facilitators aren’t just another initiative. They’re a crucial part of the proposal process and the DAO would not function without them.
