PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION:

Creating an official line of merch starting from casual shoes at affordable price for the community and general public in order to make a revenue stream for the DAO.

BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:

#1. 50% of the entire gross revenue from the sales go back to the Apecoin DAO.
#2. At $80 per shoe for the community, Apecoin DAO gets $40,000 in total revenue from a supply limited to only 1000 shoes.
#3. Apecoin DAO recieves 48.15% ROI at an investment of only $27,000.
#4. Apecoin DAO doesnt have to bear the cost of taxes for every sale as they will be taken care of from Evil Studio’s remaining 50%.
#5. Establishing Apecoin DAO’s first source of income in the long run.

With the recent BAYC x BAPE collab, the community saw an interest in merchandise under Yuga’s umbrella, but this was a limited drop with exclusive items only available to a specific group for a specific event; Apefest 2024. Tho the target audience is wide, we cant deny the fact that such shoes don’t appeal to a larger audience with limited drop and price tag.
So with Ape shoes, we plan to bring in high end line of casual shoes for a wide range of audience around $ape at a decent price range of $80 with 50% of the sale proceeding going back to the DAO as a ROI. This way DAO members can buy the product and pay for delivery without burning their pocket at the same time.
Through this, the community gets their very own Apecoin brand shoes, which can be used by people attending various events; which in fact will help in exposure and free marketing. Selling at $80 gives the DAO 50% revenue with the overall quantity of shoes capped at 1000. This would be $40,000 revenue for the Apecoin DAO where the overall community sentiments has been all time low. That’s straight 48.15% ROI that goes back in DAO treasury.

People will have the option to pay in $ape, $USDT and fiat via Shopify plugin on site.
The motivation behind this AIP comes from various different projects and communities pivoting to catering their needs around IRL activations, with the most popular example being Pudgy Penguin’s plushies. Apecoin DAO establishing their presence first in web3 with exclusive shoes for a larger audience will act as a great anchor point for the community that will inspire other businesses to operate more around $ape.

STEPS TO IMPLEMENT:

FAQ

Q1. Can the community decide which shoe design will see the final production line?
A1. Yes, once the DAO approve AIP I’ll provide the community with final mock-up designs within 3 weeks of the date of approving the AIP. Community members will have the chance to vote on their favorite design right here on the forums. Since forums is a token-gated platform we will have genuine $ape holders voting for their favorite design.

Q2. Can I, as a designer submit my own design for the shoes?
A2. Yes! Anyone is more than welcome to submit their own design by contacting me. I will put them on during voting and live discussion within those 3 weeks time frame. Just make sure they are professionally made tech pack for the shoes.

Q3. Why is DAO only getting 50% of the sales on every shoe? Why not 60-70-80%?
A3. There are a lots of thing that goes during manufacturing and selling of products that everybody knows but never think of; i.e. taxes. On every shoe that is being sold for $80, the DAO gets $40 but the remaining $40 wont be coming to us.
We’ll be paying taxes on every shoe sold, that too on the entire $80 amount. This tax will vary from 18% GST ( Goods & Services Tax ) on fiat payment and 30% on payment done by any cryptocurrency.
This means we’ll be paying $14.4 and $24 respectively from our share of the sale and $40 goes to DAO without any burden.
We will not be earning $40 as some people may think, but $25.6 and $16 respectively on every sale. And our target audience is DAO members and sub-communities who will be ordering the shoes in $ape so $16 instead of $40 is the straight answer that we’ll be getting. Entire goal of this AIP is to benefit the DAO and its members.

This is a rare case where I’m wondering if you’re asking for enough money. :joy: Have you produced shoes using the method you’re going to use on these before?

Interesting. I dig it. Would like to leaen more about the manufacturer and their history with footwear, Warranty issue’s, etc.

Would you involve the community in the design process?

Good luck! It’s a Low ask and generates rev for the dao with a cool item.

Cool idea bro, $80 is friggin cheap imho, cant buy decent kicks here for that, size 12 please, can we get them in black or blue, or only white available?

If I had a dollar for every time someone said my AIP didnt asked for enough money I would be having $3, which isnt enough but its weird that it has happened 3 times lmao.
Take a look at my previous AIPs which were great but voting never went in my favor, now same ideas were proposed with different tactic and passed. The money is enough coz majority of cost goes into manufacturing and all operations will happen in India. Some things and cost that goes to $100k can easily be done in in $10k or less. It would cost $15 per shoe to manufacture since the production will be limited to only 1000 shoes. If we were to have a sold collection here then we can try with 100k shoes and make them available in Wallmart or other stores across the globe, production per shoe can be easily get down to less than $10. Thats why its more than enough hahahha

I recently acquired a business that was producing custom shoes, they have direct access to a large scale factory that manufactures both uppers and soles for the shoes and distribute them all over the northern region of the country; factory is owned by relative.

Their original manufactured shoes for a company + printed version

Thank you for the trust Apewhale bro!
I did requested them to make a sample shoe with $ape markings and stiches but unfortunately I came to the realization that we cant use Apecoin logo just like that until and unless AIP passes. But I have asked them to create a simple sample piece with a printed logo instead that can be used to showcase here for the community. This will be just a “printed” version but in final production it would be full on stitched pattern and color scheme.

And ofc, the community will be the one to decide which design will see the assembly line.

Lets gooo!!

Agreed! Even high end shoes are manufactured at this cost depending on materials and they have been making shoes for some branded companies already like Bata, Sketchers etc. It’s just the final logo that gets slapped on the tag that decide the price for end users.

Thank you so much Webmoss for the vote of confidence hahaha, idea is always to put community first and make them accessible to a larger audience compared to other collabs that sell for $300-400.
Thought process for $80 was that people can afford them + pay for delivery without burning a hole in their pocket. Sometimes people think that lower price means low quality but thats not true since all shoes are manufactured at the same range, just what companies sell them for matters.

Nice idea
Will be looking forward to see this implemented

Vibing with the way it looks man.

If you could create a sample shoe and share would be great also.

Buuvei!
As stated above a sample shoe is already in progress but it wouldn’t be anything like the final product. It just dont make sense to make a full shoe just for showcase purpose at this point of AIP idea but the thing that is being worked upon is 2 designs of shoes with $ape logo on it just to give an idea about the quality of shoes. Even creating a single pair of shoe would cost way too compared, maybe like $300-400 for prototype which will be very much time consuming and not cost efficient at all.
Best is the look at the mock up I created while we wait for the placeholder sample shoe to be ready.

Love the idea Evil.
Got some questions.

  • Will you ship the shoes everywhere in the world? If it’s not possible, which country do you plan to ship the shoes to?
  • Just wondering, if the project is a success, do you plan to produce more than 1000 shoes ? Would it be maybe a permanent industry?
  • About the design, maybe it’s not possible to have more than a certain amount of designs but just in case, would you be able to let people choose based the IP they own? For exemple, the overall designed is based on one or two templates but if someone owns a BAYC or MAYC, that person can asks to have it printed on his shoes.

Thanks for the AIP.

GM and thank you for the confidence is us Zaiku!

Yes! Worldwide shipping is available since people paying for the delivery, otherwise its very misleading for NFT shoes to say for community but somehow end up only in USA lol. This is also one of the reason why shoes are at $80, so that people can pay for delivery as well without much headache or fear of paying extra. We shipped 42 pair of shoes few months ago during ETH CC, tho custom is a headache but with 1-2 pair of shoes its even better without any headache.

Yes, this will also drastically decrease the cost of manufacturing per shoe if quantity is more than 5000 pairs or even 10,000. The goal is to show the DAO that its very much possible to bring in positive results and ROI without asking too much from the DAO. If this AIP pass and we have a good reaction from the community, I plan to propose the making of 50,000 pair of $ape branded shoes which will make its way to Walmart in USA and other markets to make presence within the web2 world. Same thing that Pudgy Penguins is doing, compared to plushies, shoes have a broader market. Imagine $ape as a brand in Walmart or Target.

The design will ultimately be decided by the community, however people can DM me after ordering if they want custom hand painted ones, which I’ve been making from a long time anyway. The thing with just “printing” on shoe is that its possible but the hand painted one yield better quality and results. Both are a good option that ultimately depends on the user.
For example if you have of only $100, feel free to order the basic shoes.
If $150 then go for the printed ones and if more than $250 then go with hand painted ones. Tho the price range varies if all comes down to what you wanna have.

Lovely questions made it was fun answering something new <3

Increase the selling price, maybe $120. $40 to you, $80 to DAO.

Whole reason behind $80 is to make them affordable to community.
Let’s assume avg delivery charge for a general community member be $20, that would be $140 per shoe which would be the same for any premium brand like Adidas, Nike, Puma etc.

And to add more transparency for your just in case you have any doubts, no we are not getting the other half like the DAO with 50% since we are also bearing the cost of taxes in selling. My country has 18% taxes as GST “Goods and Services Tax" followed by 30% straight tax on crypto. We, as a whole are bearing all those cost from those $40 that we getting. Substract 18% via CC payments or 30% from crypto payments + taxes in other forms that are in the pipeline.

Thank you for the suggestion nonetheless, hope you understand this from our POV as well.

Understood your effort on this.
Just that why not go for “premium” product when community are affordable for it, check on the pricing and sales of BAPE x BAYC.

The entire goal of this AIP is to establish Apecoin DAO as a brand with a physical product and make them available for a wider audience with a decent price tag.
The same shoes that are being sold at high end showrooms for $500-$1,000 or as limited drops are being manufactured in my country. Cheap doesn’t mean bad quality, people paying high price for " designer " product and fast fashion are peak example of capitalism where they pay unnecessary amount to purchase things they dont even want.
$ape shoes from my perspective is to make an everyday household wear instead of being a luxury item for only the few. $ape has being revolved around only Bored Apes since the beginning hence the reason why it didnt grew and MC came crumbling down, you limit the market and people dont use it, but you make it for everyone and it flourish.
I hope you understand it now why I am not proposing them to be expensive.

Have to agree with Evil. Inexpensive does not necessarily mean poor quality. Many high end brands manufacture certain products in India - I know Ralph Lauren does.

Tbh it’s refreshing to see such a small ask. Maybe this also highlights the need for a greater investment in the GwG small grants initiative or similar, allowing greater dispersal amounts.

Look it’s $27k for 1,000 items overseen by a trustworthy OG who I’m confident will go above and beyond to dazzle us all.

No brainer for me. :handshake::handshake:

Thank you Furious!
It’s often a missed point by people that what things they consuming actually cost less. It all comes down to what tag is being used on the product that increases its price. Majority of mass products are manufactured in the same just the end users get them on different price depending on the brand and location.
Also, 4th time someone saying on this very same AIP that it’s a small amount ahahah. It all depends on location, I’ve seen a simple website development cost goes to as high as $10k-$100k somethings with a smart contract which is 99% copy paste from open zeppelin. The DAO at this point is just way used to paying over the top for everything thats why this amount is looking fairly lower than usual.

Once again thank you for your kind words fren.
