PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION:

The MY Dive initiative, spearheaded by SeaPixels—a seasoned organization with over 12 years of experience in marine conservation and an annual event series running for the past 6 years, costing approximately USD 1.5 million per year funded by sponsors—takes a pioneering step in 2025. Collaborating with Tourism Malaysia, PADI, GoPro, Reef Check, and various Web2 brands, MY Dive proposes the installation of an ApeCoin-branded coral nursery in Southeast Asia. This initiative positions ApeCoin as a trailblazer, potentially becoming the first Web3 DAO globally to undertake large-scale marine ecological conservation. By sponsoring this project, ApeCoin will not only bolster global environmental sustainability but also establish itself as a leader in leveraging blockchain technology for substantial ecological impact and fostering an ApeCoin-centric economic ecosystem.

Motivation:

Traditional conservation efforts often lack the innovation and global community involvement that blockchain technology can offer. By supporting the MY Dive initiative, ApeCoin can lead a new era of environmental stewardship, demonstrating the practical applications of cryptocurrencies in promoting global sustainability. The installation of an ApeCoin-branded coral nursery is a major undertaking, requiring approvals from multiple governmental bodies, and will serve as a testament to ApeCoin’s commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development.

BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:

  • Global Conservation Leadership: Establish ApeCoin as a pioneer among digital currencies in supporting large-scale ecological conservation projects.
  • Community Engagement: Direct involvement of the ApeCoin community in a global conservation effort, with opportunities for community members to participate in coral adoption and receive updates on the ecological impact.
  • Innovative Use of Blockchain: Showcase the utility of ApeCoin in funding and promoting environmental projects, leveraging blockchain’s transparency and global reach.

Deliverables:

  1. ApeCoin-Branded Coral Nursery: Construct and install a coral nursery that doubles as an underwater attraction, branded with the ApeCoin logo to symbolise the community’s commitment to sustainability.
  2. Conservation Workshops and Seminars: Host educational sessions across Southeast Asia, funded by ApeCoin, to raise awareness about marine conservation and sustainable practices.
  3. Global Awareness Campaign: Implement a comprehensive marketing strategy that highlights ApeCoin’s role in the conservation project, utilising both traditional and digital media to reach a broad audience.
  4. ApeCoin Ecosystem Creation: Develop an ApeCoin-based economic system within the diving and conservation community, where services and goods related to the project can be transacted in ApeCoin.

DEFINITIONS:

None.

STEPS TO IMPLEMENT:

Step 1: December 2024 - Finalizing Partnerships and Funding - USD$70,000

Objective: Finalize partnerships with ApeCoin and secure the full sponsorship fund by the December 2024. It is critical that all funds are received prior to the commencement of the project, as multiple brands are involved and the sponsorship amount must be in place to proceed to the next step.

Step 2: December 2024 - March 2025 - Government Approvals and Construction Initiation USD$,144,000

Objective: Secure the necessary government approvals for installing the coral nursery. Collaborate with marine biologists and regulatory bodies to ensure the feasibility and sustainability of the nursery. Begin the construction of the ApeCoin-branded coral nursery and initiate educational outreach programs during this period.

Step 3: April 2025 - Deployment and Campaign Launch - USD$20,000

Objective: With the end of the monsoon season and reopening of the islands, deploy the coral nursery in April 2025. Simultaneously, launch a global awareness campaign to attract divers and content creators from around the world, showcasing the project’s impact and ApeCoin’s role in sustainable marine conservation.

Step 4: May 2025 and Beyond - Monitoring and Expansion - USD$12,000

Objective: Continuously monitor and report on the growth and health of the coral nursery. Reports will be compiled by marine biologists in collaboration with marine conservation NGOs and will be disseminated on a monthly basis. This ensures transparent and professional oversight of the project’s ecological impacts. Expand the integration of ApeCoin into eco-tourism and conservation networks. Maintain a vibrant media presence, ensuring ongoing engagement and content creation to highlight the ongoing success and impact of the initiative.

Initial Assessment: Marine biologists and ecologists conduct preliminary surveys and environmental impact assessments to evaluate potential sites based on existing data about local coral health and water conditions.

Site Selection: Key factors include water quality, appropriate depth for light accessibility, moderate water currents, and legal feasibility for conservation activities.

Stakeholder Engagement: Involving local communities, fishermen, and government agencies early in the process to gather insights, secure buy-in, and ensure legal and community support.

Detailed Site Survey: Technical dives and feasibility studies are conducted by scientific teams to assess the physical and biological characteristics of the site and its suitability for nursery operations.

Transportation: Organize logistics to transport the assembled structures to the deployment site, using suitable boats and equipment.

Deployment: Carefully lower and securely anchor the structures to the seabed, ensuring they are stable and positioned correctly to facilitate coral growth. This is done with a team of expert divers and marine department.

Attachment of Coral Fragments: Attach healthy coral fragments to the structures using non-toxic methods, considering optimal conditions for growth.

Monitoring Initial Setup: Immediately after deployment, monitor for structural stability and environmental impact, adjusting as necessary.

Long-term Monitoring and Maintenance: Regularly check coral health and structural integrity, performing maintenance to support healthy coral growth.

Data Collection and Reporting: Keep detailed records and provide regular updates to stakeholders on the progress and health of the coral nursery.

Is this pure charity? Are you a business or a charity?

Will this count as income or be tax free as a donation?

Have you thought about ANY benefits for ApeCoin holders or ApeChain?

Personally, I can’t see how the DAO can justify more pure charity, until Banana Bill investments come to fruition. FYI ApeCoin DAO already has 10m APE going to the Jane Goodall Foundation creating sell pressure on APE.
