Curtail HORIZENLABS & MOCAVERSE dominance - voting to be made compulsory for all staking rewards

PROPOSAL NAME:

No more free ride!

PROPOSAL CATEGORY:

Process

TEAM DESCRIPTION:

TBD.

ABSTRACT:

Our voting system is broken and will continue to get worse. We need to counter the power of HORIZENLABS & MOCAVERSE. We’ve seen many lacklustre calls for creating new delegations and encouraging more people to engage - with ZERO results. Time to end the free ride for BAYC/MAYC/BAKC and apecoin stakers - all staking rewards are earned/unlocked by regularly participating in voting.

BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:

The few will no longer control the many.

Vote outcomes will become more reflective of the overall community instead of the two top wallets which are controlled by a handful of people at best.

Immediately upon implementation we will see a massive increase in participation far greater than anything ThankApe or similar initiatives could ever dream of achieving by utilising what we already have.

KEY TERMS:

HORIZENLABS would need to enter into discussions about the cost and time it would take to implement the changes to our staking contract and the apestake website.

STEPS TO IMPLEMENT & TIMELINE:

As soon as qualified people & Horizenlabs add comment more will be added.

OVERALL COST:

Costs will be kept to an absolute minimum.

Apestake numbers:

Apecoin only pool = 90,454,734.95

BAYC pool = 37,571,404.83

MAYC pool = 14,149,692.27

Paired BAKC pool = 2,604,946.53

Roughly = 145million apecoin we could bring into voting.

(This idea will undoubtedly be unpopular amoung the establishment.)

I’m all for finding ways to encourage more participation in the DAO, but not sure if compulsory mechanisms like this will play out. Maybe staking rewards remain intact with added benefit for participation in DAO votes.

Is this something that can be implemented via ThankApe @dillydilly ?

um… agree that its necessary action to be taken so that voting always dont end up one sided or is decided by one bad actor but forcing others to vote in order to get their staked $ape rewards would not bring any changes.
In Mocaverse many people dont even wanna vote, those who do just do it for XP and thats majority of the case.
Backlash is obvious with this but even if somehow people agree with this, they would vote just for the sake of voting without looking at AIP and its impact. It’ll be just like a placeholder vote, thats what I foresee

Very interesting and imo related discussion happening at ENS DAO regarding the risk dominance poses (also relevant to my COMMUNITY WALLET post).

At this stage, with elections imminent and many with one eye on ‘I want my future AIP to pass’, I understand there is massive reluctance to “rock the boat” and address these types of topics - thankfully you have me

Hi @furiousanger ,

The community feedback period for your proposal would be ending in less than 24 hours.

  • If you’re content with the feedback received, your next steps are to finalize your proposal using the AIP Draft Template.

  • A moderator will reach out to the author to finalize the AIP Draft. Upon receipt of the final Draft, we will review and provide instructions on the next steps.

  • Are you ready to proceed to the next phase or do you wish to extend community discussion for another 7 days?

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi mate,

Close it down please. No need to proceed.

Was more an effort to keep voting reform topic in the spotlight, to encourage positive discussions on dominance, and really just to provoke thought around the age old problem of the few controlling the many - is it really a problem that needs tackling aggressively, or are there gentler approaches we could adopt and/or develop to elevate, enhance and strengthen the voting weight (voices/choices) of the common man & woman?

I’m confident there are ways to deliver on what DAOs promised to be, I just think the appetite to do so isn’t there right now - but rest assured I’ll continue to look for appropriate solutions.

Thanks
