Proposal Description: The APE Foundation has recently posted a proposal to revamp ApeCoin DAO governance, entitled “AIP-582: ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp”. That proposal would eliminate Special Council elections, sunsetting the role of Special Council entirely. It can be found here: AIP-582: ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp
This AIP proposes to pause Special Council elections, pending the outcome of the proposal entitled “ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp”.
I wrote this months back. The current discussions are showing these exact problems now.
I will write a post on X relating to this. Please note I use the word EXTEND not PAUSE.
Is this proposal EXTENDING on top of PAUSING all the current SC? If so, for how long? Or does it mean by Jan if the Revamp doesn’t pass vote there will only be 2 Special Council members?
As by Jan, BoredApeG will hit the 2 year limit in the Special Council. (Hazel would be up for re-election).
So by Jan - 2 roles would be vacant and one up for re-election. https://snapshot.org/#/apecoin.eth/proposal/0x3aa53b36aa8d7ebeba39b14e3f3dde3af5a06214151be3dd7cc2fc8f206af13b
With this, barring any updates the next Special Council elections would take place in advance of the next Special Council commencement, presently scheduled for July 1, 2025.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to clarify the implications of the existing Proposal Description for AIP-552, stated as the following:
AIP-552 was passed prior to AIP-582’s final Draft, and to clarify: the Special Council will not be sunsetted, but rather modified in scope and responsibility. A summary of these changes can be found in the following excerpts:
With this, this proposal has been implemented as of January 29, 2025 and is now marked as Complete.
