SPECIAL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS The ApeCoin DAO Special Council nomination and election process is officially open for two candidates to be selected to serve a term of one year, beginning on July 1st, 2024, and concluding on June 30th, 2025. Given that it is now May 2nd 2025. It is time for the Special Council elections.

Currently there are two vacant positions and one position up for re-election.

1. Airvey - resigned
2. BoredApeG - hit the term limit in Dec 30 2025, however extended till June 30th 2025.
3. Hazel - Bid for Re-election

Looking forward to the invigoration the election season can bring to the ApeCoin DAO and ApeChain ecosystem and token.

I wrote this months back. The current discussions are showing these exact problems now.

I will write a post on X relating to this. Please note I use the word EXTEND not PAUSE.

Is this proposal EXTENDING on top of PAUSING all the current SC? If so, for how long? Or does it mean by Jan if the Revamp doesn’t pass vote there will only be 2 Special Council members?
As by Jan, BoredApeG will hit the 2 year limit in the Special Council. (Hazel would be up for re-election).
So by Jan - 2 roles would be vacant and one up for re-election.

Since the May 1st 2024 Special Council terms have officially over under AIP-137 and AIP-138, & with the Governance Working Group stopped. who is currently overseeing the application intake and where can new candidates apply for 2025 ?

Is Webslinger or the Foundation stepping in to ensure continuity?

Special Council Election process kicks off Monday.

Council members are global ambassadors. This isn’t a governance role and shouldn’t be a popularity contest. It’s a call for those who can rep the culture IRL and online.

1.- Thought they were sunsetting the SC. Not the case anymore?
2.- How many SCs will be voted in?
3.- Do you know if it will be 1 ape - 1 vote, 10k apes - 10k votes etc… just like before?
4.- I am really confused.

Hey @Dany319,

1. There was discussion of eliminating the Special Council in an early iteration of AIP-582, but it was ultimately revised to preserve the title, with a significant shift to the scope of work the role would entail.
2. Three Special Council members would be taking office on July 1, 2025.
3. Yes, the voting for this election would be the same as in years prior. That is, 1 $APE = 1 vote.

Appreciate your answers! One more question: what about the NDAs for elected SC? They have been a big issue in the past. Will they’ll be less “strict”? (i know there is a better term, but I don’t speak “legalese” )

People before did KYC and KYB with the foundation. Also had NDA’s. Not sure if any changes.

There is a way to apply to be on the Special Council, just didn’t see an announcement in the Forum, though there has been a post in the Discord.

Everyone who applies and passes KYC gets a profile in the nomination area in the forum?

e. Once on-chain voting has begun and the Executive Director is hired, Special Council compensation will be changed from the current $125,000 per year, to 100,000 $APE per year. Responsibility for the selection, appointment and compensation of the Executive Director would be left to the Special Council, Directors, and Audit Committee.

Also it clearly states “All AIPs which have been approved by the DAO pertaining to Special Council elections will continue to be effective, including holding Special Council elections via Snapshot votes.”

Rather than serving as the last filter before an AIP is put up for vote by the ApeCoin DAO, the Special Council’s Administrative Review will no longer be a prerequisite for an AIP to go to vote by the ApeCoin DAO, and the Special Council will instead act purely as ambassadors of the ApeCoin DAO once on-chain governance has been implemented. This would include advocating for the ApeCoin DAO and the ApeCoin ecosystem, educating others outside of the DAO and providing advice and guidance to members of the DAO and Foundation. Upon the passage of this AIP, for the sake of continuity and in light of a monumental change to the ApeCoin DAO governance system, the current Special Council members’ terms will each be extended for 6 months. All AIPs which have been approved by the DAO pertaining to Special Council elections will continue to be effective, including holding Special Council elections via Snapshot votes.
