PROPOSAL NAME
Restore Elections Data Visibility
TEAM DESCRIPTION
@SmartAPE // Derek Smart, DAO member and writer-of-many-words
I am an indie software developer who has been in the games industry as a gamer and game dev for over 40 years. I have designed, developed, and published over a dozen games during my career.
My first game, Battlecruiser 3000AD (aka BC3K), was a ground-breaking game that was ahead of its time. Published by Take Two interactive in 1996, it was one of their portfolio titles when they went public in 1997. So, you could say that I helped the company succeed to where it is today.
Over the decades, I have worked with some of best software developers and publishers around the world, and my works have been featured in various online and print magazines around the world.
I am also a lifetime member of the International Game Developers Association, and was Florida chapter board member for several years.
You can learn more about me on my professional LinkedIn page.
PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION
This proposal is for the restoration and archiving of all historical DAO elections data on the Discourse platform instead of them being removed from public view on Discourse upon the conclusion of each election.
This proposal would create a “Prior Elections” subcategory on Discourse under Help & Resources where all past election data, including the topics, nominees, nomination statements and any/all relevant data would be archived - and visible.
For example, if you go to the Discourse forum topic or the Snapshot voting link for the recent Special Council Elections - Term Beginning July 2024, all links to the topic as well as candidate info on Discourse are no longer available.
After inquiring about this, I received the following notification from the facilitators indicating that they were preserved but not visible to the community.
Each election season, we resurface the election categories and close them again after the season’s end in order to maintain a focused and streamlined forum. Hope this helps to clarify your question, and thanks for reaching out.
They’re perpetually preserved, and all historical entries are brought back for each election cycle.
BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM
In the interest of transparency and for referencing the historical data, the election data should be accessible to the DAO community at all times. This is similar to pre-existing AIP data which are visible to the community.
STEPS TO IMPLEMENT
-
Create a new “Prior Elections” subcategory on Discourse under Help & Resources.
- Create (within the aforementioned subcategory) a description that would read “Data related to all previous elections are archived here.”
-
Restore (within the aforementioned category) all previous elections topics to the aforementioned subcategory above. All topics and threads would be “read-only” and not allow additional comments other than relevant updates by either personnel (e.g. Facilitators) so authorized.
-
Going forward, and starting with the conclusion of the elections following the passing of this proposal, future concluded election posts would be moved to the aforementioned Discourse subcategory and preserved there as per the aforementioned guidelines.
REPORTING EXPECTATIONS
The expectation is that this proposal would be implemented by the DAO’s administrative team.
The community should regularly review the impact of this proposal.
If accepted, the administration and the community should review the impact of the updates after the 3-month period for conflict ends.
