PROPOSAL NAME
Streamline Proposal Times and Reporting
TEAM DESCRIPTION
@SmartAPE | DAO member [Trust Level 3] | writer-of-many-words
I am an indie software developer who has been in the games industry as a gamer and game dev for over 40 years. I have designed, developed, and published over a dozen games during my career.
My first game, Battlecruiser 3000AD (aka BC3K), was a ground-breaking game that was ahead of its time. Published by Take Two interactive in 1996, it was one of their portfolio titles when they went public in 1997. So, you could say that I helped the company succeed to where it is today.
Over the decades, I have worked with some of best software developers and publishers around the world, and my works have been featured in various online and print magazines around the world.
I am also a lifetime member of the International Game Developers Association, and was Florida chapter board member for several years.
You can learn more about me on my professional LinkedIn page.
PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION
This proposal aims to streamline the proposal submissions by removing the requirement for a proposal to first go through a 7-day discussion before it can go to draft. This allows an author to either create a new proposal as an Idea with the usual 7-day discussion period, or opt to forego this discussion period and signal their intent to move to Draft upon submission.
This proposal also creates a method by which the community can track the various stages of proposals as they move through the process to vote. This also alleviates the issues related to proposals seemingly going to vote out of nowhere thus leapfrogging others which were already final and assumed to be in queue for voting.
BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM
- Making the 7-day comment period for proposals optional removes delays in proposals for which an author opts to immediately go to draft, thus allowing for a timely schedule.
- Allows for the tracking of proposals as they move to the process, thus providing transparency while alleviating concerns about favoritism as well as the resulting confusion.
STEPS TO IMPLEMENT
- Make the 7-day community discussion period optional for AIP authors. This would entail updating the language on the AIP Draft Template to have authors explicitly indicate whether they choose to undergo a 7-day community discussion or to forego this period and move to Draft upon Facilitator review.
- Revise Discourse to have a new “Admin Review AIPs” sub-category under “Active Proposals” category. This sub-category will be used to track proposals which are admin review.
- Revise Discourse to have a new “Queued AIPs” sub-category under “Active Proposals” category. This sub-category will be used to track proposals which have already been issued an ID number, have gone through admin review, and are in queue to vote.
- An AIP started as a draft will immediately be assigned an ID number, assuming it meets all formatting requirements.
- The AIP documentation will be updated as per the above steps.
