AIP-512: Build with $APE Page on all AIP & Banana Bill Projects

PROPOSAL NAME: Build with $APE Page on all AIP & Banana Bill Projects

**与$APE一起构建页面:**Build with $APE - The Public Bored

TEAM DESCRIPTION:

My IRL name is Eric, online I’m MemeBrains. My Co-Founder and I built the Treasury Transparency Dashboard on ApeCoin.com through AIP-267, and the governance dashboard on apecoingwg.com . I am a successful AIP author for AIP-383 and currently serve as Co-Founder and CEO of The PublicBored. I’m an active ApeCoin DAO community member, having voted on 177 proposals as of the time of the writing of this AIP. I also produced 45 episodes of a DAO podcast and provided testimony to the Wyoming Senate regarding the next set of DAO legislation being drafted within the State of Wyoming.

I’m a repeat founder and operational leader, and also engage with philanthropy work in the mental health space via my Podcast From Rock Bottom to Rockin’ It.

PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this proposal is to help guide more people into the ApeCoin community. The ‘Powered by ApeCoin’ logo is great for branding, but lacks a call to action, and does not give a reason for people to join the DAO by purchasing their membership, ie: their first $APE.

This proposal is to mandate the inclusion of a prominently visible ‘Build with $APE’ (or similar) website menu item and corresponding website page by every project which receives funding through the ApeCoin DAO, whether through an AIP or through the Banana Bill.

The specific naming of the website menu item can be at the discretion of the approved AIP author, but must be prominently visible on their AIP projects website main page without requiring a hover-over.

The contents of the Build with $APE page shall also be at the discretion of the approved AIP author, however it shall be required to include:

  1. A brief explanation of: What is the ApeCoin DAO, with a backlink to ApeCoin.com
  2. A statement that the ApeCoin DAO funded the authors project
  3. A simple breakdown of the benefits of owning $APE, ie: inclusion in the community, access to Discourse and Discord, voting on proposals, and proposing new proposals
  4. Resources on how to learn more, ie: url to the ApeCoin official twitter account, Discourse, and Discord

This AIP shall not be retroactive. Previously approved AIPs and/or other fundings distributed shall not be required to include the requirements of this AIP. However, it is noted that it would be a courteous gesture by all previously approved authors to include a version of this AIP within their existing projects which were funded by the ApeCoin DAO.

As a case example of the above in practice, I offer The Public Bored website for review, consideration, and discussion, screenshots and URLs below:

Website: www.publicbored.com
Build with $APE Page: Build with $APE - The Public Bored

HOME PAGE - with Build with $APE menu item

BUILD WITH $APE PAGE

This proposal would only apply to projects which have a website. If a project receives funding from the DAO or from the Banana Bill and does not have a website, it would be exempt from this proposal.

BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:

  1. Onboarding new members into the ApeCoin community
  2. Encouraging more people to purchase their membership via their first $APE
  3. Active promotion of the ApeCoin ecosystem
  4. Ensuring that funded AIPs properly recognize the ApeCoin DAOs contribution and support
  5. Reducing friction for potential new members to become more involved
  6. Enhancing the Network Effect which occurs as the community grows

STEPS TO IMPLEMENT:

  1. Adjusting legal language in AIP and Banana Bill funding documents to require the above. This would require the assistance by the Foundation and appropriate legal team(s) to establish appropriate legalese and appropriate finer details.

The completion timing for this AIP shall be at the discretion of the Foundation and appropriate legal counsel, and should ideally be less than 30 days from the successful passing of this AIP, and before any funding from the Banana Bill is distributed.

REPORTING EXPECTATIONS:

The expectation is that this proposal would be implemented by the team responsible for the approved AIP or Banana Bill funding, and overseen by the DAO’s administrative team to ensure the core elements are put in place. The intention is to have very little -if any- work required by the DAO’s administrative team outside of general oversight and basic Q&A by the approved AIP/Banana Bill team.

As the core elements of the proposal are very simplistic in nature (see Public Bored example at Build with $APE - The Public Bored) the intention is also to have very little work required by the approved AIP/Banana Bill team.

No aspect of this proposal should reasonably cause delays on the approved project or require substantial funding in order to complete. The case example of The Public Bored’s Build with $APE page was a few hours work with a single promo video for added fun.

OVERALL COST:

Total amount requested from the ApeCoin Ecosystem Fund = $0.

Love this idea Eric! :muscle:

These are the sort initiatives that we need in order to improve adoption. It’s precisely why I came up with APEID in my AIP-487 (shameless plug) and tied it to an engagement rewards system which will later convert to the platform tokens down the road. It’s safer that way than to take funds out of the treasury to reward people upfront in $APE.

Feels like a very simple change that can help spread awareness.

Given it’s proactive, all future AIP authors would understand the requirement going in if this passed.

Well done Eric.

I like it, maybe it would be good to provide a standard version of the page that can be adapted by the project creators if needed?

This is great Eric! Seems like a low effort quick win at 0 cost, big yes!

Great idea! Love it.

Nice idea in theory, but not sure how the DAO would ever enforce this if made mandatory.

Open question on this one; how does, or would, the DAO enforce anything on any AIP? If an author opts to use their approved funds in an alternate manner than proposed in their AIP, what’s the recourse?

From what I’ve observed, there’s a combination of a) clear communication and b) honor system

Clear communication comes from the AIP process documentation combined with the grant agreement legal documents, and the honor system seems to generally come from people valuing their integrity and reputation, and this has seemed sufficient to ensure, for the most part, that AIP funds have been put to intended use.

My thought is that this AIP above simply ads an additional layer to the existing functional system, to make it just a little bit better in practice of closing the loop in supporting the ecosystem growth and price of $APE

What do you think of this? Curious if there’s been any enforcement related topics come up in the past or not on previous AIPs and if yes then how they were addressed

True. But my thinking is that if my ACE proposal passes, I could incentivize participation via the platform’s rewards program. That was the first thing that crossed my mind because building an engagement aligned rewards platform is the perfect funnel for use cases like this because bribery never fails when it comes to crypto.

This is, in my opinion, one of the most important question in the DAO space, and one that will ultimately help to determine whether this space becomes a lasting form of business organization.

If you look at something like Kickstarter, they have the following language:

“Unlike sellers on eCommerce sites, creators on Kickstarter do not automatically breach their contract with backers if they do not fulfill their rewards or provide users with a full or partial refund. However, if a creator fails to communicate progress updates or delays, does not address backer questions or concerns, or otherwise breaches their agreement with backers, the creator may be subject to legal action from backers.” (https://www.kickstarter.com/trust)

This is similar to where DAOs stand right now. You mentioned a combination of trust and reputation, and there are numerous web3 projects focused on reputation system tools. Here’s a list of 23 of them (List of 23 DAO Reputation Tools (2024)). It looks like someone proposed this back in AIP-132 (AIP-132: Karma - Reputation system for ApeCoin governance contributors) though I’m not sure if it passed.

I think, succintly, the honor system doesn’t work in business, which is why the system of civil law exists. If someone takes funds and uses them in a manner substantially different from that which was promised, they have potentially committed, and could be held liable for, breach of contract, breach of promise, misrepresentation (in contract law) and negligence and fraud (in tort law). This is as true in DAOs as it is in any other business or corporate venture.

However, ApeCoin would need to sue, though potentially a holder of ApeCoin could bring a derivative action on behalf of the DAO. That is traditionally for shareholders of corporations. If the DAO chose not to pursue a legal course of action, then there would be little to do if someone breached their promises. They could be barred from making future AIPs, though they could, given the anonymous nature of the DAO, simply rejoin with a different name and wallet, theoretically. This is, to me, why carefully written contracts are quite useful when giving funds to any party.

AIP-132 went to vote and passed on Jan 18, 2023.

As the implementation update page is devoid of any new data, no clue if it was ever funded ($10K) or even implemented.

@Chris.Admin can you please shed some light on this? Thanks!

Indeed. Also, it would be up to either the APE Foundation or an individual DAO member to take such legal action.

AIP-132 has been funded and fully implemented, as denoted by the AIP’s subcategory (Final AIPs - Implemented AIPs), as well as the Implementation Update’s Implementation Status line reading “Complete.”

Yeah, I saw that part, but couldn’t figure out what was actually implemented and where. I don’t see any links to anything.

Does this mean that the Karma reputation system was / is implemented in ApeCoin? There was a situation in CityDAO where someone was granted $10K to research a specific topic and then didn’t do it, but there was nothing that could be done given the lack of HR in DAOs. They just walked away with $10K. Not blaming the admins or anyone - it’s just the lack of controls in the system.

That’s precisely why I am asking how this karma system was implemented - and where is the evidence of it ever being created and/or implemented. @Chris.Admin

Hey all, I believe you’ll find this post of use here in your inquiry. Additionally, while this link is also found within the one I just shared, you can find their user interface page here.

Hope this helps.

Thanks @Chris.Admin ! Any reason why those links aren’t on the AIP implementation page where one would expect to find them?

The Implementation Updates page for AIP-132 has since been updated, thank you. This was an older AIP, introduced much earlier than the AIP that established the Implementation Updates (AIP-258) and some of these posts require retroactive updates. We are periodically reviewing and updating these entries, thanks again for your observation.
