AIP-258: Proposal for Creating a Forum Section for AIP Authors Approved by ApeCoin DAO

ABSTRACT

The proposal suggests adding a new category to the Ape Coin DAO forum, aiming to create an ecosystem that enhances AIP authors’ productivity, enables DAO contributors to join the AIP team, and improves transparency for DAO members.

MOTIVATION

  • The existing forum structure lacks open threads for implemented AIP authors to share their status and progress, which limits transparency.
  • There is no dedicated section for approved authors to communicate, exchange ideas, and address critical execution issues.
  • Not everyone has access to ApeCoin administration contacts to address specific concerns.

RATIONALE

The rationale behind this proposal is to make simple changes, such as adding a new category, as it brings significant benefits at NO cost. This addition will provide value to implemented AIPs, their authors, all DAO members, and aspiring authors who wish to share their initial ideas.

SPECIFICATION

Once a new category is added, the forum structure will appear as follows:

ADDING A NEW CATEGORY AND TOPICS

I propose adding the “AIP Execution and Transparency” category with the following description:
Track the progress of AIP authors, facilitate idea exchange, and promote transparency in the execution of implemented AIPs

The category will include the following 4 topics:

  1. Author and Administration Contacts
  • Pinned thread: Contains AIP authors’ contacts with links to their AIPs and contact information for all current members of the ApeCoin administration.
  • The administration promptly updates the contacts of new authors after their AIPs are approved.
  1. AIP Implementation Updates

Open sub-section with AIP implementation logs: Used to inform the DAO about the author’s activities and the current implementation status.

  1. Author Networking Zone

Closed Discussion section for authors only: Provides a space for authors to seek assistance, exchange experiences, and establish partnerships with other authors.

  1. HR Section for Approved AIP
  • Only authors of approved AIPs can create threads to recruit candidates.
  • People in the DAO ecosystem can participate in specific projects (AIPs).
  • This section enables specialists who support a particular AIP to join the team and contribute to the common cause.

STEPS TO IMPLEMENT

The ApeCoin forum moderators would need to

  1. Add a new category with a description to the ApeCoin forum structure.
  2. Add new topics to the created category.
  3. Implement the system described in each topic.

TIMELINE

This would be determined by the ApeCoin Forum Moderators, but all of the above could be completed in 1-3 days.

OVERALL COST

There is no cost to this change.

Absolutely.

I’ve actually suggested this in the past on DAO calls in the server, where AIP authors and would-be authors can connect, build each other up and network. The Help section here in Discourse could use a good cleanup as well.

Good thinking on this :+1:

Fantastic proposal. This would effectively enable an iterative process whereby the authors can collaborate, share, and hone their craft while fostering a more nuanced and transparent AIP process (assuming authors are able to share their findings/results/work with others looking to write their first AIP).

I’m in full support of anything that would help refine, streamline and ultimately render more accessible the AIP process itself. Thanks for putting this forward.

Really love this idea @doberdanny, it makes total sense. Even with our own AIP, we had/have questions we’d love to ask previous authors, and while we have been able to get in touch with some, others have been a bit harder to reach. Having a place on the forum is a fantastic idea!

I especially love the idea of the Open sub-section with AIP implementation logs! One thing we want to do is provide a detailed breakdown of the steps in beverage manufacturing and bring members on the journey, providing an educational side to our AIP for those curious about launching a CPG brand. We are currently trying to figure out the best ways to get the information to members. While we plan on using Discord (hopefully the WG0), we know not all members are active there, so having a place here where members can check in and join in, I really love it!

Super excited about this idea!

Cheers,
Christian

That network effect will lead to proposals becoming a lot better so imo it’s a win win.

Collaboration on ambitious proposals by dedicated people is the Alpha. Let the games begin !!

The main idea is to create an ecosystem for AIP authors to increase productivity, enable DAO contributors to become part of the AIP team, and increase transparency for DAO members.

Yes @doberdanny. For the most part, that is the main idea. I agree. I wonder if we could go further than that but I respect the simple forum change as a starting proposal. In the past, its been required to make official proposals to even change categories. I wonder if a service provider handling the forums or moderating could make basic changes or add new categories without an AIP. AIP-7 I believe sat the precedence.

Here is convo thread for AIP-7 before the full forum categories were opened up.

And full AIP-7 here:

An interesting result came from the voting and resulting implementations. Many asked why a proposal was necessary for this change, and required to pass, to make updates to UI/UX. The reason at the time was that our forum moderators were also the same company, Cartan, who “wore a lot of hats,” and had to measure each move for risk.

I do wonder what could be done now that we have community facilitators seperate from some of the other foundation activities. I imagine that some smart improvements could be done right away.

Great idea. We should be as open and inclusive to community collaboration as possible, and that all starts with communication. @holocronape potentially could this also be included into ApeTalent here somehow as well? Maybe a filter or section of the website can be catered to case studies from successful AIPs where authors can connect and showcase? Just an idea.

Would also love to see some form of a stage breakdown for approved AIPs for the sake of transparency, to keep the community in the loop of where certain projects are in their proposed delivery/milestones. Right now we personally get a lot of 1:1 messages from the community for updates, would love to have a formal section in the forum to point people to that keeps everyone updated on progress.

When we were close to finish AIP-91, we wrote a post in the General category where we were updating with the different stages of evolution of the project. I think it is something very necessary but if there was some official workflow defined from the DAO it would be great.
About your comment @Brazy , I think it is a very good idea. To be able to add some filter on approved AIPs and to be able to see active members of those projects (We can definitely include it :raised_hands:)

About having a section that highlights projects supported by the community, it is something that we thought about and it was something that we were going to include in our last AIP but finally we did not include it due to lack of definition of the idea but it is certainly something that we can include in the future if it is something that is useful.

Thank you @doberdanny for your ideas and the ApeCoin DAO community for the thoughtful discussions. A moderator will get in touch with the author to draft the AIP in the appropriate template. Once the AIP is drafted and meets all the DAO-approved guidelines, the proposal will be posted on Snapshot for live official voting at: Snapshot

+1 Danny, great and logical proposal.

@0xSword vote for me for discourse facilitator and I’ll add (lobby for if I can’t do it myself) categories that make sense / make simple changes without AIPs. We should be doing simple polls/votes for such small UI/UX changes that don’t affect AIP process.

Something like buddy boss might help us do it in the initial stages. I really like the idea of creating a community for builders to collaborate and iterate upon. MVPs for the win :sparkles:

I’m working on something similar but with an entirely different motive (will tell l8r)

So the process would be drastically. shorter than creating one out of scratch

It’ll help us with most of the things we need

I really like your idea to make things better for AIP authors and people in the DAO. Having a place for authors to talk about their work and another private place for approved authors to solve problems together sounds good. I also agree with having a way to find people to help with projects and a place to tell everyone how a project is going. Maybe we could have a system where new authors can learn from experienced ones. I think this idea will help a lot with making and working on AIPs.
