Interview Q&A:

@ernestlee this relates to your question about having APE listed on your website to buy.

Perhaps this needs an update, both for Accepted AIP projects, but an option or logo specific to anyone who wants to transact using in APE without an AIP.

Yes but should we be gatekeeping who can or cannot accept ApeCoin or advertise that they accept ApeCoin?

Credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard or American Express are not promoting all of the goods or services at merchants that accept those credit cards.

That is to say, if we received 500 million applications to use the “Powered by ApeCoin” logo tomorrow, would we really want to waste precious resources to determine whether all of the goods and services in those stores “are in alignment with the values and mission of the ApeCoin ecosystem” ?

The vote on AIP-562 will determine the DAO’s answer to these questions.

I agree with you. We should have a logo or variant of a logo that requires no application and can just be used.

That’s an interesting suggestion. I believe your goal is to maximize the usage of the
ApeCoin logo (“Powered by ApeCoin”).

However, to ensure the logo remains a strong and credible symbol of the ApeCoin ecosystem, it’s important to maintain some level of oversight over its usage.

This isn’t about excessive control or limiting access, but rather about ensuring the logo is used in alignment with the values and mission of the DAO.

A lack of oversight could lead to misuse, potentially damaging the reputation of ApeCoin as a trusted brand. (Think about scams that could quickly exploit and abuse the logo.)

I propose considering a more streamlined application process that minimizes administrative barriers but still allows for basic KYC/KYB verification. Additionally, incorporating an agreement for logo usage would provide assurance that it is used in accordance with our standards.

This approach would strike a balance between openness and protecting the integrity of the ApeCoin brand.

On a personal note, I’ve just received the right as an AIP author to use the ApeCoin logo. This is a tremendous honor and recognition for me.

The logo represents not just a brand, but also the community behind it.

No one has the right to use another company’s logo in Web2 without approval or a formal agreement. The consequences of unauthorized use can be costly for both parties.

What do you think about this idea?

Shouldn’t we want any vendor to be able to advertise that they accept ApeCoin? Technically, the ApeCoin DAO cannot stop a vendor from accepting ApeCoin, nor from advertising that they do so. AIP-562 seeks to clarify this point.
