🟡 Implementation Update | AIP-463: Empowering Otherside Wiki

AIP Name: AIP-463: Empowering Otherside Wiki

Implementation Status: Pending

Implementation Date: N/A

Author: @Frostyz

Abstract Summary:
The Otherside-Wiki Team is reaching out to the Apecoin DAO for support in our ongoing operations, as well as in the further development, integration into ApeChain and enhancement of our platform. Our goal is to update Otherside-Wiki to align with contemporary web standards and to significantly enhance the user experience.

Since its inception on May 15th, 2022, following the mint of Otherside, we have been working to improve and evolve the platform. Our coverage and support extend to all developments within Otherside and ApeChain, with our priority being to provide timely updates and serve as a pivotal resource for the community.

Otherside Wiki was developed by our lead developer Frostyz. With additional funding from current investors and ApeCoin DAO, we plan to further expand the platform by bringing on board more developers who have specialized expertise. This expansion will improve our capacity for growth and ensure that the platform can thrive with a more diverse team of developers.

We have developed and enriched the experience for Otherside Users significantly, and also improved the filter experience on marketplaces. Within this we drove additional revenue to Yuga Labs and its partners, provided deep knowledge and data connected to Otherside, and enriched our platform with extensive deep data.

Currently we are the go to platform for Otherside data, marketplace browsing and information. To back this up with figures, last month we reached about 57k unique monthly visitors, which have an average engagement time of 20 minutes each, all completely through organic marketing and natural demand.

For two years, we have developed Otherside-Wiki at our own expense, without focusing on monetization. Our priority is to provide the best possible information to Otherside participants. In order to realize this and remain independent, financial support came from us, the founders, as well as contributions from Sky is the Limit Ventures and nix.eth.

We integrate and enhance the following topics with our funding request:

  1. General Overhaul of our UI AND UX Design: As we grew our UI and UX has become outdated. We’re planning to modernize it significantly to meet current web standards.
  2. Modern Web Technologies: As we’re expecting a bright future for ApeChain & Otherside, we want to be able to scale for millions of users. We want to have a solid system using current standards such as Laravel & VueJS using serverless scaling technologies so we can focus on building the tech and not maintaining the servers. Using standards also makes sure the website is no longer dependent on a single person.
  3. Tailored Data Streams: Dealing with the large number of projects and news in the Otherside/Apecoin ecosystem can indeed be overwhelming. To address this, our platform is developing a major feature—an entirely personalized Apecoin/Gaming feed. We want to aggregate data and information from various platforms and community initiatives into one coherent stream.
Users will have the flexibility to customize this feed to align with their specific interests and preferences.
  4. Deep Insights: We will continue to provide and expand our deep data insights into ApeChain and Otherside. Our goal is to support a growing number of games on ApeChain and provide valuable in-depth insights.
  5. Multilingual Support: To better serve the global community, we plan to add support in two of the world’s most widely spoken languages, Chinese and Spanish, in addition to English.

We carefully considered the timing of our AIP application with Apecoin and chose to proceed only when it became truly necessary. Given the unforeseen delays in the launch of Otherside, and the postponement of release dates, we believe now is the critical moment for this support. This funding will ensure the continued development and success of Otherside-Wiki, maintaining our commitment to keeping the platform predominantly free while preparing for a more comprehensive business model post-launch of Otherside.

Note from Agora-Marketplace.eth (SITL Ventures): In the last 2 years we’ve invested around 1,000 ETH in Otherside related assets and also funded together with nix.eth the first 2 years of operation for Otherside-Wiki. Hereby we’re committing another investment of $300,000 USD to cover a part of the development costs. For us it’s a risk to do a follow-up round while seeing Otherside delays. Therefore we would like to see a positive response on this proposal from the community to ensure all together another 2 years of operation + improvements for Otherside-Wiki

Overall Cost: Total amount requested from the ApeCoin Ecosystem Fund = $715,000 - to be paid in $APE

Timeline Updates:

11/11/24
  • Milestone 1 completed
We have completed Milestone 1. We met in person with our additional development resources. During this workshop, which lasted a week, we analysed the current Otherside-Wiki structure and processes, looked for exact bottlenecks and created a detailed project plan on how we will proceed. Our primary technical stack, based on our current needs analysis, will include Elasticsearch 8 Cluster, MongoDB Cloud Database, Laravel (with Livewire) and a Monstache Integration.
  • Next Milestones
Now that the team is fully on board, we have started Milestone 2 and Milestone 3 in parallel. As we only completed milestone 1 last week, there is not much news to report here, except that the initial project set-up has already been completed.
  • 1/23/2025: The author provided an update to their AIP, which can be found here.
  • 4/4/2025: The author of this AIP has provided their monthly update here.

AIP-463 Transparency Report

After the completion of milestone 1, we have started to tackle milestone 2 and milestone 3 simultaneously. Milestone 2 is 50% complete, all mockups and responsive templates have been created in figma and are ready for implementation.

Milestone 3 is progressing and we have focused on integrating data syncs for NFT collections first. Adding new collections is now very easy and our data sync process also supports ApeChain collections, which will probably be relevant for the future. We use now websockets which allows use to receive data in realtime.

Our next focus areas are implementing the design mockups, enriching the NFT metadata for the Otherside collections that aren’t provided directly in the official APIs, creating the necessary backend APIs for our frontend and focusing on the user authentication system where we emphasize on supporting the current authentication methods used at Otherside.

Wow great to see the dashboard for transparency. Great self initiative!

Nice to see if we can find a way to link it into this:

Hi ApeCoin DAO,

The author of this AIP has not yet provided their required monthly progress report to the community regarding the ongoing status of their proposal’s implementation.

The author’s last report was submitted on January 23, 2025. We urge @Frostyz to respond in this comment thread with any updates.

@Facilitators

Hey @Chris.Admin,
thanks for the ping — and sorry for the delayed response!

Here’s our progress report for the last quarter:

- Milestone 2 - ~75% done

We’ve been fine-tuning our reworked pages based on feedback. A few static pages are still missing, but we’ll address those later as our main focus has shifted to Milestone 3.

- Milestone 3 - ~60% done

Backend Development – ~80%

  • Progress here has been solid. We’re currently waiting on updates related to wallet connection. We’re aiming for a unified and seamless integration on ApeChain.
  • Aside from that, most parts are built. Occasionally we notice missing data or changes in structure needs, which we adjust during frontend development.

Frontend Development – ~20%

  • Most of the UI pages were already built during Milestone 2.
  • We’re now focusing on connecting the “brain” to these components, which means developing APIs to access data and displaying the data in a dynamic way.
  • The browse are nearly wrapped up and should be done by next week.

New feature development - ~10%

  • The main progress here has been in how we actually get the data we want to integrate, and there is still a lot to be done to have further progress here.

Migration to v2 - ~90%

  • Most data has been seamlessly integrated.
  • User data and three years’ worth of historical data will be migrated shortly before go-live.
  • The new system is already running in a completely separate environment (but that’s enough spoiler for now :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:).

Final Words
Our current estimate for go-live is shortly before the launch of the persistent Otherside world.

I’m doing everything to hit that deadline—even if a few functionalities (especially around timeline/feed) are still in the early stage. We believe launching early and building with real-time user feedback is better than holding off longer for a “perfect” release.

Thanks for the great update. Love the dashboard for tracking the milestones. It would be great have this for every AIP… hmmmm…
As a new Otherside deed holder, I am excited to see this continue to build leading up to release. Thanks!

Thanks, we tried to update it regulary, will take care of it again soon. We basically made this because we had no possibilities on other AIPs if there is actually any progress and we wanted to lead by example.

@Chris.Admin - you mentioned monthly reports but we said we will do it quarterly, i have no issue to come once a month to post progress, but wanted to ask if that have changed.

Hi Frostyz, yes we certainly recognize that this is an update from what was originally established when your AIP was approved. We are now proceeding with monthly reporting from all Accepted AIP authors here, until the proposal is verifiably implemented.

Again, recognizing that your stated deliverables and reporting were quarterly based, the central emphasis of this updated reporting schedule is to maintain contact with AIP authors. Just checking in once a month, even if there are not many new points to update, will be tremendously appreciated not just by the Foundation but by the community as a whole.

We appreciate your response here and the work you do to improve our ecosystem.

Gm,

Monthly Report for April
Since our last update, there hasn’t been too much significant updates to report.

Milestone 2 - ~80%
We made some additional fine tuning and added few static pages.

Milestone 3 - ~60% done
I wouldn’t change a percentage here, but we did make some changes to the backend process that were necessary. Saving now all images on our own CDN; enriching metadata for our filters in our documentstorage.
As reservoir is closing we had some thoughts which data provider we will use in the future and made some research in that regards, but we agreed to make this after the intial launch, to not face delays because of that.

Conclusion:
Doesn’t sound like many updates, but some important things have happened in the backend, my developers are based in the Netherlands, which I will visit for a few days in the middle of the month to have a focus session, to tackle some challenges we are facing.

Little sneak peeks:

Well done. Love the transparency. I would definitely support an AIP that would require this level of transparency for each new AIP.

Monthly report for May

It’s been quite a successful month with lots of progress, lots of components coming together + I visited my dev team in the Netherlands and we had a week-long focus session to tackle some challenges together.

Milestone 2 [100%]
All missing static pages have been finished. During browsing and some feedback we did a lot of adaptions, which especially improved the mobile experience.
We mark this milestone as completed!

Milestone 3 [70%]
We actually had some progress in this, nevertheless some tools are still missing. Some new data has been added like our specific rarities for all collections. Besides that we also fully integrated now yuga’s new wallet solution, which should support a unified ecosystem on ApeChain.

As I said in our last update we have an unplanned event happening, reservoir is closing, i discussed this with the team personally and we came to the conclusion that we will move this to august to not have a blocker to go live with a new version and maybe face some delays because of that.

Additional Updates
We also have another update to share, we will slightly rebrand, which will come with a new logo and a new easier url. Won’t share this, but this task is finished.

Conclusion
We are going to the finish line, we will target to go live with the new version without all tools to be finished, especially some new features will be missing, which we will delivered later on.
We hope we can finish everything in time, and are online with our new version with end of the month. Nevertheless, if we face problems or something isn’t how I like it, I will not push it out.
As everybody knows the last 20% takes 80% of the effort.
