Opportunity to sponsor a top e-sport team

So, what you’re saying is that it’s great that I’m fully doxed for my $5M proposal?

AIP-487: ApeCoin Community Engagement Platform

This has been an interesting thread to read through. What I take away is that there were two previous sports-related sponsorships: the F1 Alpine sponsorship of around $5 million and Swamp Gaming of $400,000. The consensus in this thread seems to be that neither of those have yielded measurable returns in money or marketing. The ApeCoin treasury hasn’t grown as a result of these sponsorships, and they haven’t energized the ApeCoin brand in a measurable way.

It seems that the ApeCoin community does appreciate and respect both esports and sponsorships. I appreciate @DIM’s position that this esports org simply wants to gauge interest before going further. I also appreciate the others’ arguments that asking for a temp check without giving their identity renders the temp check less meaningful, and may be seen as insufficiently trusting.

Ultimately, if a cornerstone issue is that the two previous sponsorships didn’t deliver measurable value, I’m curious if that is something that a sponsorship is supposed to deliver and, if so, how it can be tracked. Possibly in visits to the ApeCoin website or puchases of ApeCoins after a tournament? Otherwise, ApeCoin would need to be satisfied with their name and logo being out there without a feasible way to measure how that impacts brand value.

It would be good to see what the benefits have been for ApeCoin of both F1 and Swamp Gaming so far.

Back to this one:

Given the concerns with previous sponsorship initiatives, I would encourage any proposal to include a clear list of activations and KPIs for that allows the DAO to both hold the sponsored party accountable and measure the impact of such sponsorships.

There’s a way to do this. I’d argue we haven’t quite found it yet, but that doesn’t mean we stop doing it altogether IMHO.

Definitely, the AIP would need to be very precise

Swamp Gaming had the worse metrics. Still passed.

…and transparent. So, what’s the name of the team?

GM Dim!
Finally got time to consume this discussion. I knew something like this was offered before as well by @orangie
Here’s the AIP, hope going back to this you both can cook something up together

I had my doubts too when I saw Dim’s tweet few days ago, but difference between F1 and E-sports here is that we would actually get the name of the team if this general discussion is positive, followed by actual transparency that we are actually a part of this discussion instead of just putting the AIP up on its own by SC’s insider.
Glad to know that the community is actually being considered here lol.

Unless and until the name of the team is disclosed, there’s no transparency here. Transparency is definitive and absolute. You either have it or you don’t.

For one thing, this is just a waste of everyone’s time because had the name been disclosed, all the time already spent having this discussion would have been saved by discussing the merits of the proposal instead of going back and forth about what transparency means, the name of the team etc.

Aside from that, regardless of whether or not the team’s name is disclosed, this discussion has now inadvertently tainted the discussion towards not supporting it. So, unless the team is some major team with a fantastic track record, I don’t see how it gets support going forward.

I agree the team name is important but this is not what the thread is about.

See it this way, first we decide what kind of food we want; i.e Thai or Mexican. Once we decide on the cuisine then we can look into the dishes; i.e. Thai curry with lemon chicken and rice or Chimichanga and Tacos with beer.

P.S. The thread aim to get community’s views on if the community members want to see DAO sponsoring Esports team. In my honest opinion the details about the said team is just extra info that we got way early and its for the best.

P.S.S. This infact saved time actually.

It is what this thread is about:

I’ve been approached by a top and famous Esports organization from Europe. They have won numerous international trophies and they are involved in a dozen of games, including Tier-1 esports titles such as Counter Strike 2, League of Legends or Valorant.”

With millions of followers on social media and presence across the world, they are looking for a main sponsor

“*The team will disclose its name and approach if the feedback shows interest for this proposal

While I realize that Dim isn’t a native English speaker, he did a good job explaining what this is about. However, in doing so, the above statements lead toward something called “disclosure”, which implies “transparency”. By prefacing all that - then saying the team name can only be disclosed based on interest, he sets this up for this distracting discussion because then everyone is curious as to how a team - with the above credentials - would opt to be secret instead of being confident in their achievements which would then carry over to us here.

Do you actually believe that when bizdev people - in any field - go out looking for projects, sponsors etc. they don’t disclose who their projects, companies or clients are? So, why should this be any different when in fact it is a bizdev discussion/proposal?

For example, a subject like “Hey, should we make a game!?” is totally different from “Hey, we should buy this game”. The latter requires additional info in order to make an informed decision. The former does not because it’s “exploratory” in nature.

lol! As a dev, I can safely say that’s not how logic flow works because it’s contextual.

As an individual, while the context is implicit, a case could be made that people normally know what they want to eat before actually ordering or cooking it.

Love it : ) To expand on the metaphor, it seems like the initial discussion is essentially, “You guys hungry?” If we are, then do we want Thai or Mexican (esports or some other form of sponsorship)? If we want Thai, then we get to see the name of the restaurant - look at its menu and yelp reviews and see if we still want to order from there. I can’t quite figure out why the restaurant would care if we know their name from the outset, but I guess they must have some reason.

I do think this thread has become more than just a discussion of this particular AIP. This has morphed into a discussion of transparency, metrics, disclosure, and trust, which is highly important in its own right. I also agree with @SmartAPE that the prolonged discussion may have inadvertently biased the actual sentiment against this particular esports team.

A little update. I had a call with the team last week and they will think about how they want to unveil themselves. We had an extensive discussion about all the different things we could put in place as part of this sponsorship, they are very open and had great ideas.

Thanks everyone for your feedbacks, I will report back with more news soon.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to jump into this discussion and apologize for not responding sooner. I haven’t been as active on the forums as I’d like, but that’s definitely going to change.

I’ve been super active on Twitter, regularly engaging with the ApeCoin community via Apecoms and the ApeCoin spaces. Almost every week, I’ve been providing updates on the situation with AIP-380 and Swamp Gaming. I should’ve provided these updates here as well.

To be transparent, our AIP contract and funding weren’t executed until August 15th. It took 6 months and without the funding, we were unable to implement almost all of our plans. However, we still represented and promoted ApeCoin throughout the six-month waiting period.

Now that we’ve moved past the contract and funding phase, I’m excited to share that we have some incredible things planned that we hope will make you proud of supporting our AIP. Swamp Gaming is just getting started, so get ready for some big announcements soon!

Regarding this AIP, as an esports team that advocates for both Web3 and esports, I think it’s amazing that more esports organizations want to support us. This could be an exciting proposition depending on the team. However, I do think the ask is quite high, and without a fully detailed plan on how it would be spent or knowledge of the team, I don’t believe it should be considered at this time.

Hi TFG, thanks for clarifying the points some people brought to attention.

Regarding this comment you might have misunderstood this post, it’s in general not AIP ideas. This was meant to gauge interest from the community to see if yes or no I allocate time to this process as Metaverse Stewards, ie accompanying the team and advising their AIP etc.

Exactly how are they “supporting” us if we are paying them for sponsorship?
